One of my favorite movies of all time. This goes beyond just being a good Bond film, it's a brilliant action film in general.

Fun Fact: Dame Judi Dench was first introduced as "M" during Pierce Brosnan's tour as James Bond; she was in all 4 his Bond Films (from '95 to '02). Although Daniel Craig's tour is considered a "Reboot" of the Bond Films, this is still Dench's 5th appearance as her character.

Mads Mikkelsen, Jeffrey Wright and Judi Dench are always the wins!

Fun fact: Craig had two suits for shooting. Or, I should say, two different kinds of tailoring. One for when he was relatively still, which was much more tightly cut, and another for when he was moving around. So, basically, it’s literally impossible to look that good in a suit haha!

Look at Addie recognizing that villa on the lake location was also used in 'Attack of the Clones'. And this is a great reboot to the franchise. I love all of the Bond movies (even the really cheesy, over the top ones), but this one definitely grounds it and makes it much more serious. It was really wise of them to use this version (book) to restart the Bond universe. This is a fantastic movie, but 'Skyfall' is still my go-to when it comes to Daniel Craig Bond movies.

This film pretty much acts as a reboot for the series with CASINO ROYALE acting as an origin story for James Bond becoming a Double O agent and getting his Licence to Kill. The movie itself is based on the first James Bond novel "Casino Royale" released in 1953. These films are all connected by a pretty solid continuity throughout as we see these character age and evolve. The original Bond films do have a loose continuity starting with Dr. No (Which is actually the sixth Bond Novel) and ending with Die Another Day an original story based on a range of Ian Fleming's novels. So the classic films are very much not in order of the novels but still remains a loose connection to past movies from references to mentions of characters etc. There's a good 40 year time difference between Dr. No from 1962 and Die Another Day from 2002 so people always wonder how this can be the same James Bond coming up with theories that Bond itself is a code name used by all 007 Agents explaining the recasts. Personally I see Bond as one guy who's stories happen much closer together, around a decade instead of the 40 years we see in the movies. In terms of the 40 year timespan I like to look at it as us seeing what Bond would be like in different decades yet he's still around the same age from classic 1960s Spy to the 1980s and 1990s with more modern equipment and gear. Bond has always had some cool sci fi elements so tech has always been somewhat more advantaged anyways to our real world. I guess for comic book fans you can look at the films as different universes each with their own James bond each active in different time periods yet all shared the same past. I heard someone use this example and thought "That's an interesting take" and I can kind of see that tbh. But for the Craig films you don't have to worry about this as they maintain the same Bond not to mention we get to see Bond age throughout each movie so it's easier to follow for new fans to James Bond than the older films recasts and massive time jumps. But don't let that stop you from watching the older films I can see you really liking them along with the more modern ones Like GoldenEye, Licence to Kill, The Living Daylights, The World Is Not Enough etc. Novel Order for Context: 1. This is both a fresh start and a call back to the older flicks. If this is truly your first Bond movie, then you miss a lot. Don't get me wrong it stands alone and is excellent Bond movie, but things like the martini had layers to it based on older movies. Adorable as always Addie.

Yesss! So thrilled to see you watching a James Bond movie for the first time. :) It's impressive how early you didn't trust Vesper and how you remained on edge for the entire third act of the movie.

The last scene in this reboot of Casino for me is the greatest. They hold the Bond theme until he walks in and stands over his target. This when Bond becomes Bond - never trusting in anyone. Gives me chills.

Fun fact: Bond mentions to Vesper in the car that the cover name given to her is "Stephanie Broadchest" (a reference to the names given to previous Bond girls). That is ACTUALLY the name that is on the prop passport (the film props were viewable at the Bond in Motion exhibition)

This is my favorite James Bond movie. Great actors. First time seeing Mads Mikkelsen (who played the bad guy in the first Doctor Strange movie). Eva Green is such a beautiful actress (just my opinion tho) and I loved her interactions with Daniel Craig. I can't tell you how much I love your reactions to movies or TV series. Can't for wait for the next one !!

Layer Cake is a BRILLIANT Daniel Craig movie, it basically got him the Bond role. Definitely worth a watch.

Still one of the best 007/James Bond movie for me. Sean Connery will always be my Bond but Craig's Bond with his baggage, PTSD, and emotional damage is always dear to me heart.

Bond movies usually include something that's really popular and trendy at the time the movie's made. In this one, it's Parkour and Texas Hold 'em poker. They were big in '06. I used to watch the Celebrity Poker all the time. Texas Hold'em is pretty easy to play. And more fun than basic 5 card draw. Since you share the cards in the middle, you get a chance to analyze and calculate what your opponent might have in his hand.

Vesper’s dialogue in the dinner scene after Bond wins is fascinating. She says, "You've got a choice, you know. Just because you've done something, it doesn't mean that you have to keep doing it." On the surface, she's talking about Bond being an agent and killing people, but the subtext for her is she's talking about betraying her government and by extension, Bond. She's already in love with him, and she's having to deal with the realities of her situation. It was easy for her to betray her government when it was just a faceless institution, but it's much more difficult for her now that she deeply cares about someone personally victimized by her betrayal. By saying that Bond still has a choice in what he does, she is also saying that she can choose to stop being a traitor. But she can't quite convince herself, which is why she's so adamant that Bond can change; it's not really about whether Bond can change, it's about whether she can. Bond returns with a quip about people who can't take advice being the ones who always give it. This startles Vesper because, like the scene on the train, he can see through her. He can't see completely through her; he doesn't know what she's struggling with, but he can see that she's driven by something. Vesper is so rattled by Bond's insight that she's put on the defensive and answers his question with a question of her own, sidestepping the issue. Bond brings the issue back to the forefront by revealing how much he's able to see through her, and saying that he'll never know what's driving her. This is a perfect opportunity for Vesper to come clean and tell him everything, but the opportunity is lost. She gets a text, Bond realizes that Mathis is a traitor, Vesper is kidnapped, then Bond is kidnapped, and then she is forced to make a deal to save Bond's life by giving up the money Bond won in the tournament. After that, it's too late for her. She can't tell him her situation because the people she was working with would kill Bond. So they continue to fall in love, but she knows the relationship is doomed. Her only hope is to die and pay for her sins against Bond. She knows he'll hate her forever, but his hatred is worth it if it keeps him alive. She loves him more than she values her own life.

Considering what strong moment they are in the movie, the car chase and torture scenes are right out of the novel.

I love the way David Arnold scored this movie to reflect it as a Bond origin story. All the way through we hear occasional snatches of the classic Bond theme, usually during action sequences or when he does something particularly cool and Bond-like. Then, in the final scene, we hear the intro starting to build after he shoots Mr White, Craig drops the “Bond, James Bond” line and the horns kick in for the full theme.

I have a special "bond" with Casinò Royale: not only did I watch it in cinema with my father (who is a longtime fan and introduced me to the saga when I was a child), but it also represents my first ever ecounter with Eva Green, who has become my favorite modern actress by far (I really love her ❤). Vesper is a unique character in the Bond saga: you'll never find another bond girl like her in any other Bond movie (that why she's so important for Bond's psycological devolpment). Considering you're new to this movies series, you probably don't recognize all the typical Bond elements which are consistenly present in almost every episodes (Aston Martins, 2 girls, "M", Felix Leiter, Martini drinks, luxury suits, the iconic line, the villains). This movie also started a complete reboot of the saga, so I hope you will continue with the next films: Craig's era is one of the best in the Bond history. Welcome to the family, Addie 😊

You know what's curious, Addie? While there are loads of James Bond movies (this one is the 21st), Casino Royale is actually based on the very first James Bond book, by the same name, written by Ian Flemming. Perfect choice to be introduced to the character. :D Although I highly recommend watching the old ones played by Sir Sean Connery, for many fans he is the perfect James Bond. There are many traditions in Bond movies, and the so called Bond girls is one of them. Just a heads up. Fun fact: throughout his entire book/movie career, James Bond was always at the service of Her Majesty the Queen. So, the next time a Bond movie is made, it'll be the first time he'll be at the service of His Majesty the King.

In the first movie, Dr. No, Sean Connery came up with "Bond. James Bond" because the script said simply "suave introduction". It has been pop culture since 1962.

Fun Fact: This is the 3rd version of Casino Royale. The second one was a comedy spoof of James Bond (With Woody Allen). The first time James Bond every appeared on screen was not infact Dr. No with Sean Connery. It was in 1954 in a TV Anthology series called Clima. The episode was an hour long and was Casino Royale with Barry Nelson.

Favorite Bond by far. Took my first date to see this; it was a disaster but I had a helluva time lol

Addie, I saw this film 5 times in the theater, and the second viewing was on opening night (we had the privilege of seeing a sneak preview 3 days before the opening night). Towards the end of the second viewing, where Bond suddenly realizes that Vesper betrayed him, of course I knew what was happening, but the theater was DEAD SILENT and this woman behind us let out a very loud "oooohhhhh!" I love it when a film can bring out reactions like that, and it's something I will never forget, especially with the complete and utter silence. I would recommend you watch Quantum of Solace immediately. Casino Royale and QoS are best viewed as one, 4-hour movie.

My favorite James Bond movie. Love this movie and its portrayal of an extremely flawed, well-meaning agent that makes mistakes and learns the wrong lessons from it.

You should definitely watch the other 4 Bond movies with Craig. They are united by a cross-cutting plot. And yes: James' wounds will heal and he will start trusting people again, but much, much later.

I grew up on Bond films, being my age, the Roger Moore era, and I like how Daniel Craig's Bond breaks the old mold by being really rough and tumble. And Eva Green is absolutely stunning in everything she does.

If you have never seen a previous James Bond movie, this is a good place to start. There had already been 20 other Bond movies before this and a few of them were direct or implied sequels, although many of them could be watched in any order with few issues. This film (the third Casino Royale to be filmed actually) was a complete reboot of the series and brought us to meet James Bond when he first became 007. It also ended the campy entries of many of the previous movies, which sometimes were distractingly ridiculous. It brought James Bond into the 21st century as an action hero that, while still over the top, was a bit more grounded.

WOW !! Did not see this reaction coming. But loving it. Being a long time bond fan and also watching one of my favourite reactors reacting to James Bond gives me happiness. I think Craig's Bond was the most physically dynamic..(None of the others were as ripped as him!)The fight scenes he did were wilder,more realistic and faster-paced than any of the previuos 007's.Add on his deep voice and the cold eyes, And ya have a natural in the role...All the people who thought he wasn't going to cut it as Bond have proven dead wrong.

You could watch all the Craig ones, then go back to the older ones for context, or go back to the old ones first, then watch the Craig ones in order to catch a lot of the references and whatnot on first viewing. Either approach works, but regardless, at some point I think its good to see the old films just to see the history of the franchise and how it has evolved over the decades/ how it has influenced all kinds of things!

Great reaction, I really enjoyed it! I think "Casino Royale" (this one, with Craig; there is another one but it's more of a spoof) and "Goldfinger" (with Sean Connery as Bond) are the best Bond films, and "Skyfall" is also really good. While not a great bond film, I also really enjoy "For Your Eyes Only" with Roger Moore as James Bond.

You absolutely have to watch all the Bond movies in order from the start! They’re the best movies ever! You’ll see more of Felix Leiter, previous M’s, Q’s, Moneypennys, dozens of Bond-girls… The older movies have more humour in them too. So many awesome chases on all kinds of vehicles, contraptions and devices. You have do much amazingness ahead of you!

I just recently picked up a book called Being Bond that is a retrospective look at Craig's time as Bond now that he has left the role. And just today I bought a three-record vinyl album, The Best Of Bond...James Bond that has the theme song from every single Bond film. It was a great listen.

Addie, a few pointers for the Bond franchise: it's a reflection of the time it was made. For a lot of the 60's, 70's and 80's the Cold War was the backdrop. Bond is just the British Secret Service guy. Felix the CIA guy turns up quite regular as a "brother from across the pond". The movies vary in quality, they can get quite camp, but they're all worth watching at least once. Sean Connery set the tone for the entire franchise. Until Daniel Craig, they were mostly standalone adventures, with the cast changing here and there, so there isn't the whole "what happened last time?" thing. The modern Bond movies do tie together, and are worth watching in order. Each new Bond that was cast, was intended to last for several movies. George Lazenby was a one off, because it was felt he was cast way above his ability. There is another Bond movie called Casino Royale from 1967. It's very sixties. Fleming wrote his first Bond novel called Casino Royale, and sold the movie rights. They did nothing with those rights. He then wrote Dr No, and sold the rights to a different company. They DID make a movie. They cast Sean Connery as Bond, and started the Bond franchise. Years later, the folks who owned Casino Royale wanted to cash in, and made their version. They had the rights to the novel, but not the Connery interpretation of the character etc. When they did get the rights to the novel, many years later, this Casino Royale with Daniel Craig is the movie they made from it. April Fools Day is coming up soon, so you could use that as an April Fools Day video; react to the 1967 Casino Royale, as if it's a regular Bond movie.

The black man being chased in the beginning of the movie is Sebastien Foucault, one of the best parkour athletes on the planet.

The funny thing is that the 'largest plane in the world prototype' was actually an already obsolescent at the time of the movie Boeing 747...

Welcome to the world of 007! Casino Royale was an instant classic for me when I saw it in theaters and its very close to being my favorite Bond film right next to Sean Connery's From Russia With Love. The 007 films are always a good time including the lesser films in the series. If you're going to see more 007 films in the classic era then at least check out a couple of Connery's namely the aforementioned From Russia With Love and the famously iconic Goldfinger. These modern Craig films can be hit or miss, but I won't say much more out of fear of coloring your own judgement and enjoyment. Loved the reaction!

Pierce Brosnan was the 007 we grew up with and loved...GoldenEye was apart of our lives. I was extremely skeptical of them replacing him...But Daniel Craig as Bond, was a gamble that won.

The most heartbreaking moment for me and my (at the time) wife was the destruction of that exquisite DBS. Yes, it set a world record with the rolls, but doing that to an Aston Martin....

Wow you’re starting out with hands down one of the best 007 movies ever. Same director who also did Goldeneye which is also one of the best Bond movies.

2 things nobody mentions about this movie are Judy Dench playing a different M from the one she played with Pierce Brosnan. He’s a tougher, more realistic Bond (at least in this movie), so she has to step it up herself. They have more of a tough single mother/son kind of relationship. In this movie, she’s not sure if she trusts Bond because he’s a bit of a loose cannon and inexperienced. Even though she bashes Brosnan over the head with “sexist, misogynistic dinosaur” in Goldeneye, she clearly trusts him and respects him to a degree. Here that has to be earned. The other is the best Felix Leiter since Jack Lord in the first film, Jeffrey Wright. A cool CIA agent in a Bond movie? Unheard of. This movie is modernized, but the plot and dialogue are almost verbatim, with some exceptions, to the novel by Ian Fleming.

long story short.. i have friends in the LA studios that play for the movie scores recorded.. an interesting thing about this Bond movie is that the actual James Bond theme doesn't come in until the very end when he kills that last guy. You hear little motifs of it but not the tune proper... That's the point where he takes revenge and now becomes the cold killer type since his love interest is dead.

This is probably a good place to start, if you watch it you realise that it’s kind of a prequel except held in modern day

Skyfall for me (Craig's 3rd outing as Bond) is my favourite Bond movie. Craig's Bond is Unique that all 5 movies have one overarching plot. Whereas all the Bonds beforehand are they're individual missions and the connectivity between them is just the actors in it. 1. Skyfall 2. Live and Let Die. 3. Goldfinger. 4. Licence to Kill. 5. Casino Royale. 6. Goldeneye. 7. The Living Daylights. 8. For Your Eyes Only. 9. The Spy Who Loved Me. 10. No Time To Die. This is probably my personal top 10.

FWIW, there is an earlier "Casino Royale" from the Sixties that is a Woody Allen spoof of Bond. Most people don't seem to like it, so I guess the humor hasn't aged well. That movie is probably part of the inspiration for the Austin Powers series, which spoofs all spy stuff from the 60s, but especially Bond.
