NPC Advantages: arboliva (seed sower) cannot be on the team because it gives a 1.3x boost to grass knot. intimidators (tauros, staraptor, arcanine), gardevoir (life dew, synchronize for burns), bellibolt (discharge, light screen), umbreon (thunder wave, synchronize for burns), drifblim (will-o-wisp), sylveon (charm, moonblast), and dudunsparce (thunder wave) are helpful.
Strategy: wait for your stats to reset. aqua step, taunt. bulk up, wait for infernape to clear its stats. roost when you need HP and the shell bell isn't ready yet. 5x bulk up, terastalize, aqua step to victory.
Notes: you can run swords dance rather than bulk up if you have an intimidator on your team, or if you replace roost with chilling water (but this makes you more reliant on gardevoir and heal cheers during setup). you can also try to charge your tera orb and let yourself get KO'd right before the shield goes up to fill your HP bar (this works best with swords dance so you can quickly charge the shell bell and avoid a 2nd KO). fighting tera can we used with brick break or tera blast as primary attack, which eliminates the grass knot weakness post-tera, but makes flare blitz a bigger threat.
Pros: supereffective tera type matching base type, great HP, attack, and special defense stats, outspeeds infernape after 1 aqua step. resists flare blitz, resists tera blast before terastalizing, bulk up buffs 1 attack stage and 1 defense stage, taunt blocks infernape from using nasty plot. roost heals 50% max HP. aqua step has 80 base power, 100 accuracy, and deals supereffective STAB (tera-boosted when terastalized) damage. it gives 1 speed stage. shell bell heals when attacking, an amount equal to 1/8 of damage dealt. torrent gives 1.5x boost to aqua step when HP is below 1/3.
Cons: poor defense stat, weak to grass knot after terastalizing (which is infernape's strongest move because quaquaval's 62kg mass gives it a base power of 80).
