73 in Alabama says downsizing was the best thing I ever did. I am on a walker. Sciatic left leg, need 2 knee replacements, Type two diabetes, Vision going to just name a few haha! A big house is a big responsibility! I have a small sweet apartment with one of my sons and it's just right for us. Needed the big two-story house when I was raising 3 boys but not now! You go girl and keep on cooking enjoy your shows Daily!

Hiiiiiii Ms Paula! Happy Saturday! Sorry I missed some of your videos due to my work schedule this past couple weeks, but I'mma catch up this weekend, I promise. I don't have a pressure cooker. I've always been afraid of them too. My mama and grandmother used to make us kids leave the kitchen too. I will have to get yours. My husband and I have been married 38 years, and 4 years ago we “downsized” by selling our big two story house we lived in for 30 years and raised our children in. We built a one story house with walk in showers and rails so we can “age in place”. We are very happy, but Lordy, that was a job going through all the stuff you accrue over 38 years! But I am SO GLAD we did it! Best wishes my dear Paula!

Tip: if you cut the butt in half or quarters, it will easily cut 30 minutes off the cooking time. If you're going to shred it anyway, you'll never know the difference.

Me and my husband downsized in our 30s from 3500 square foot to 1200. Now, I wish it was smaller! So many questions....What did you do with aunt Peggy? Had you been renting the home you will move to? What is that constant loud "fan" noise in the background?

Our house is only 384 square feet. That's everything, but we still have full size appliances, and a queen sized bed.

The barrels the pork went into were called butts. This particular shoulder cut became known around the country as a New England specialty, and hence it became the "Boston butt." 😊

I totally understand downsizing we just sold our 3000 square-foot house and went down to 1000 ft.² and we are very happy now less to clean less too keep up with ha ha

I couldn't live without my pressure cooker and air fryer💕. I'm disabled and can still manage a good dinner (most nights, lol) . They are life savers

So the kitchen that Quarantine Cooking was filmed has been sold and this kitchen (let's call it the white cabinets kitchen) is Bobby's guest house?

I could not give up my Viking range for a small cooker.

I've been pressure cooking for 50 years, never had one explode on me. If you follow directions, that doesn't happen. Now, all the pressure cookers are made with safety valves, so there's nothing to be scared of. I do my Boston butt with sauerkraut and potatoes, a nice winter meal, lots of onions and garlic. I couldn't live without my pressure cooker, yet for years I couldn't convince anybody to use one, they were so scared of it exploding. It just doesn't happen. I forgot my cooker one time, on the stove years and years ago, and all that happened is that all the steam dissipated, and the roast burned to the bottom of the pot. My very favorite Paula Deen Recipe is your Orange Brownies. I could eat those every day, 3 times a day !! When I bake for others, that's my most requested recipe too. Thank you for many years of totally excellent recipes... btw, Mr Salters Peanut Butter Pie comes in a close second.

I have two different size on stove pressure cookers and always looking for recipe ideas to do in them. I said to my hubby “Paula has a pressure cooker recipe for me today.” It broke my heart when I saw the electric cord and this is an instant pot vid. Maybe, just maybe if Paula can use an instant pot I will also bite the bullet and try one. That’s the influence Paula still has. 😜

Instant pots and the ones they make today... are the best pressure cookers now. I love mine ...and they are so easy. Very safe and not dangerous.

Butts are named after the barrels pork used to be stored in around the time of the Revolutionary war; they were called butts. And the reason butts are often called Boston Butts is because they were considered a New England specialty.

HA! I've been using Liquid Smoke for decades. It just makes everything taste better. We do have a smoker but when you just want to cook something inside without all the work of using the smoker, LS is just the thing. It makes vegetables taste great too.

Oh Paula....did you bring back memories. My mama got her first pressure cooker when I was preschool back in 1955. Before she got the hang of it, we would peek around the kitchen door and watch as the rocker thing started shaking. I remember beans exploding onto the kitchen ceiling and once, chicken noodle soup!!! She finally got the "hang" of it and became a professional...haha, but I remember her first experiments!!!

Cook your Boston Butt with about a cup of water in the pan covered loosely with foul in the oven for about 1 1/2 hours then dump 2 large jars of Silver Floss Sauerkraut (the best) over the top juice and all and put it back in the oven for about 40 minutes more without foil. In the meantime make some homemade mashed potatoes leaving bits of potatoes in there (that's why I use a hand held masher instead of an electric mixer). Add butter salt, cracked black pepper, and sour cream to the potatoes. THEN... plate up the bed of mashed potatoes and top them with the pork and sauerkraut! You will love this and so will your family or guests. Love and best dishes...much more...Blessings in Christ always! ❤️

Today is my mommas 90th Birthday. I feel so blessed to still have her with me. She always worked outside the home and she was a total pro putting great meals on the table with her Pressure Cooker. I got your big pressure cooker couple years ago (I wanted the blue to go with all my other PD blue items but all that was available was the brown - seeing yours made me think about that...) Anyway, years ago, using my mother's pressure cooker I was cooking peas. Followed directions and mom's instructions. I, too, would not let my children come around when that thing was jiggling. It blew up! Lid went into ceiling and peas were EVERYWHERE. Somehow they even went into the hallway. Several years later when I moved and pulled out the frig, there were green peas embedded in the wall behind it. I do love the new safe pressure cookers and have both your small one and large one - I never know when I'm cooking for 5 or 10. Love your videos - keep 'em coming. Minimalism is looking amazing on you. Enjoy your next chapter.

My grandma used her stove top pressure cooker a lot. But I was totally intimidated by that contraption. My mom never even owned a pressure cooker, so I wonder if she was afraid of them too.

I love my electric pressure cooker. It never gets put away because it gets used so much. A stovetop unit will cook in less time because they operate at greater pressure, but the electric units are FAR safer since they're electronically controlled and will only start if the lid is on properly.

I am so happy for you & Michael. It’s wonderful moving into a simpler life. Praying blessings over you and Michael as you move through this new season. By the way, you look wonderful today.
