Many songs from the Tamil Films have been ignored periodically for reasons best known to no one. Especially, never or rarely attempted in any reality shows, stage shows or competitions.
When the nation is on a Quarantine, Subhasree Thanikachalam launches this new series.
This series will feature a set of rare songs that are rarely heard, rarely performed and she will also try and give some trivia for the songs.
The songs will all be performed by young singers who came out of her shows, which mainly focussed on old songs. The sessions are unplugged and performed with minimum instrumentation. No retakes. One stretch live performance..

ஹஹஹ, பாடல் முதலிலேயே பாடி விடுவார்கள். பின்னர் மறுபடியும் சும்மா பாடி பதிவு செய்து இரண்டையும் இணைப்பார்கள். அதனால் தான் எத்தனை முக பாவணைகள் கொடுத்தாலும் பாடல் சுருதி விலகாது.

Nadigar Thilagam and our favorite Saroja Devi in this classic song which resulted in especially the way Nadigar Thilagam walked with a limp was copied by Kamal in 16 Vayathinile. When Devi sings பாளை போல் சிரிப்பிருக்கு பக்குவமாய் குணமிருக்கு ஆளழகும் சேர்ந்திருக்கு கன்னையா, her smile was just priceless. They don't make movies like this any more. வாழ்வெல்லாம் எம்ஜியார் ரசிகனாக இருந்த போதிலும், நடிகர் திலகத்தைப் பார்த்து பொறாமை பட்ட படங்களில் பாகப்பிரிவினையும் ஒன்று. Yes, I surrender and agree that Nadigar Thilagam's movies were of different level and we were lucky that we lived and experienced that golden period in tamil cinema when both MGR and Ganesan gave us one great movie after another.

Recently watched baaga pirivinai. At that time I wondered how this song escaped QFR? Finally...., Heard it today. My god! Narayanan shaaswathi , selva and Venkat recreated the magic done originally by kaviarasar, msv and TMS. What a singing! Shaaswathi's voice is very close to Leela amma! Hats off!

Discovered this series just yesterday and watching more and more. This is one of my most favorite songs and I'm always scared to listen to favorite ones sung by others. But this version exceeds all my expectations!! Both are fantastic. Seems there is so much talent out there. Subashree does great job in introduction, and in bringing them to us. This song is tuned on hearing of Bengali song. This was told by MSV in an interview. In Bengal it was rendered by SD Burman. Salute to master MSV.

Msv inspired from SDB only that humming portion and not the tune. More over be it hilly tribes, forest dwellers, fishermen or a folk tunes there is a close affinity to each other be it Bengali, Marathi, Tamil or Malayalam. Forget India, there is s close affinity between a fisherman tune in Santhome to a fisherman in Caribbean. That is how Msv got inspired for tuning ‘vandha naal Mudhal’

Yes..it was a Bengali number tuned by SD and used in the Hindi film Sujata which was released in April 1959. But MSV-TKR duo picked up the humming and the opening strand to improvise it to create an immortal folk tune in Bhaga pirivinai which was released in October 1959- Six months after Sujata! But that doesn't detract anything from the joint creative effort of Kannadasan, MSV-TKR, TMS- P.Leela. Monumental work beautifully rendered Saswathi & Narayanan supported by the instrumentalists. Hats off!
