Problem is, is that with the sort of mother Edward had in Queen Victoria, he was rebelling to the best of his ability. It is said that it was his fault his father sickened, and died for which his mother never forgave him.

A most gracious and graceful Queen. The love between Alex and her sister Minnie (Empress Maria Feodorovna) lasted their whole life long. She was always a rock to her sister throughout Minnie’s tragedies in life. They were like twins separated by 3 years’ difference and reunited yearly back in Denmark with the rest of their family (George & Olga joined them from Greece), and their baby sister Thyla. They were born 3 years apart and died 3 years apart.

The more I read about this extraordinary woman, the more I wish I could have met her. I know she was absolutely devoted and extremely generous to the London Hospital in Whitechapel. For the time, she was unusually tactile. Whenever a Royal servant died, Alexandra would be among the first to visit the bereaved family and hugs of sympathy were her norm. What a lady!! I also think that the portrayal of her by the actress Helen Ryan, both in the film 'The Elephant Man' and in the TV series 'Edward VII', could not have been bettered. Dame Maggie Smith also gave a warm performance in the 1999 'All The King's Men.'
@ADreamML

I completely agree David. It would be great if they made a modern-day drama about her now that we know a little bit more about her. I find her fascinating, it's as if she was born for this role. She also loved animals in particular her dogs who gave her a lot of company as she began to lose her hearing
@iwasglad122
@iwasglad122 3 года назад
@@ADreamML Yes, indeed. She had the patience of a Saint, what with her increasing deafness, as you say, but also the exemplary and dignified (might I say 'queenly') way in which she dealt with the more awkward elements of Edward VII's private life. A modern up-to-date portrayal would be wonderful!

@gerardmackay8909
@gerardmackay8909 Год назад
@@deniseeulert2503 the actress playing her in that film was Helen Ryan and her Danish accent was very authentic. If you are interested in Alexandra you should immerse yourself in the costume drama series, Edward VII, first televised in 1975 (excellent all round, and faithful and accurate to her’s and Edward’s life). It’s available on RU-vid I think and again Helen Ryan played her with enormous charm and authenticity. Helen would be the first to concede that capturing Alexandra’s breathtaking beauty was an impossible task but she is nonetheless very attractive, capturing too her warm loving nature, so that her all round performance is extremely accomplished.

I think those are actually for cleaning your shoes and boots. They had a grid on the bottom you could rub the bottom of your foot on to get rid of any mud and I think they may have had like a hard bristle brush in the top to rub the top of your boots against also to clean them. :-)

Queen Alexandra and Empress Marie of Russia (Tsar Nicholas' mother) were sisters. Both from the royal family of Denmark. Queen Elizabeth has Danish blood from her. Also, Prince Philip's family was originally from Denmark. So there is Danish blood from both sides of the family.

8:14 stupid question. If Queen Alexandra was not permitted to attend the coronation of her son, why was Queen Mary able too? Was it because Edward abdicated and she was no longer considered Queen?

Your actually correct in a way George. Queen Mary really came into her own when King George V died. She said she would be present at the Coronation and she was in a sign of support of her son after the abdication of King Edward VIII :-)
@mscott3918
@mscott3918 3 года назад
It wasn't a rule, just a tradition that had developed over the years. The same way that no crowned monarch attends any other Coronation. Queen Mary wanted to do two things. First she wanted to support her son. Second, she wanted the personal pleasure of seeing her son crowned.

She was a Danish princess but married the then Prince of Wales the future King Edward VII(1841-1910)who was the eldest son of Queen Victoria(1819-1901) in 1863.Their marriage was a happy one although Edward affectionately known as "Bertie" was seeking the company of other women especially Lilie Langtry. Known for her untidy habits Alexandra doted on her sons especially the future King George V(1865-1936). Alexandra had a dislike for Wilhelm William of Germany as the latter was Anglophobia. Alexandra died in November of 1925.
