Buckingham Palace throws its gilded doors open to the public for its summer exhibition while the queen is at her summer residence. Elizabeth Palmer takes us inside the 300 year old palace.
Ive been very lucky to have access to The Palace since I moved to London 21 years ago with The Army. Ive worked there, lived there, even partied here. A small group of us including footmen and housemaids had a lovely pimms party and picnic on the roof one year. BP holds many happy memories for me. Its an amazing building! The view from the flag pole is something to behold.

Which is owned by the tax payer though, she doesn't (nor does any member of the Royals) own Buckingham Palace and thus doesn't form part of the Crown Estate, (Sandringham is one of those the Monarch herself owns, believe Balmoral as well, least I think it does) it's more accurate to see the majority as an Office (if not the whole place) of State like the Home and Foreign Offices.
Russian, French, and Spanish palaces are awesome, British palaces are more modest, as the monarchy shared power with parliament, and then became a figurehead in 1660.
have visited france countless times , France abolished monarchy, generating more revenue in euros for tourism, from its buildings - palace of Versailles , including countless other palaces , historical and archaeological sites. Eiffel tower and museums The Louvre south of France , paris Garden of the Tuileries, skiing in french alps etc etc.
Onthemarket Blog, France's monarchy was as absolute monarchy which is why their palaces are so much more impressive. Buckingham House was a much more modest mansion. When Britain became the wealthiest nation on earth Buckingham House was redesigned as a palace, but still not on the scale of France, Spain, or Russia. France is a much more tourist friendly country than the UK. London is a much more diverse world city, Paris is much smaller, very French, conservative place.
This is the 21 century we live in the present ..... The Queen also has St James's Palace two minutes' walk away, and then there is Kensington Palace 20 minutes' walk away. Then there is Hampton Court Palace which she could use if she wanted. And that's just London. She is not short of residences.
You're quite correct, there are several palaces within walking distance of Buckingham Palace, but you've missed out one very important detail - the Queen doesn't own any of them.
I love the design of the palace and inside looks beautiful.Buckingham Palace is worth 1.5 billion pounds if it was sold by her Magisty the Queen Elizabeth the Second.
All you saying the UK taxpayer shouldn't be paying for this well they aren't. The Crown estates which are everything the RF owns makes around 200 million a year, from that the queen takes 40 million which covers the cost of maintenance and the salaries of the royal household. The other 160 million goes straight to the UK government. Also, dont forget the amount of money they make for the UK economy all the thousands of tourists coming over and spending money on crap...
Jack The Crown estates belongs to the Crown 👑, they're not the personal property of the monarch. The Queen owns 2 private properties, Balmoral in Scotland, and Sandringham in Norfolk.
The Crown Estate also owns Windsor Castle and Clarence House, as well as London’s Regent Street and all of the UK’s seabed. The Queen receives an annual grant worth 15% of the Estate’s profits. This year, she received £43 million, while the Treasury was paid £301.4 million - as it does every year. That's self finance folks, if you don't like it you can (quote from below) kiss my Royalist arse. Ten years of full time employment for thousands - a great investment in jobs, well done
John right! Like this institution A) provides countless jobs from maids to tour guides to butlers and conservators and designers and tailors and so on and so forth. And B) the tourism it creates more than covers the cost. And C) the Windsor family is wealthy. Most of it is already theirs
FYI. The queen doesn’t own either of these landmarks , they are owned by the crown government! But they are both lavish I’ve been inside both of these many times , still takes your breath away!
So who do you think pays for upkeep of St Petersburg palaces and Versailles which is as large as Buckingham Palace and German Places and Vienna. stop gripeing it's a country's heritage and history and historical buildings that brings revenue from tourism to all these places.
Buckingham palace is NOT 300 years old. It was not a palace until it was enlarged in the 19th century. It wasn't even a royal residence until 1761 when George III bought it for his wife and then it was Buckingham House and only a fraction of the current building and NOT a palace. It wasn't until George IV had Nash enlarge it in the 1800's that it approached it's current grandeur.
Way back, not only did the Queen allow BBC cameras around Buck House, but she conducted the tour herself. I seem to recollect she was in jeans. They came to the Royal Art Gallery. Her Art Curator was hanging a picture and he was waffing on about it. The Queen listened for a while and then said "You have hung it upside down". The poor man nearly fell of his ladder and the Queen's mouth twitched. However, where is that footage now? Royalty is not all stuffiness. I passed by the stage door of the London Palladium late one night. It opened and Princess Margaret came out accompanied by the star of the show. Since I was the only one around, she smiled, said hi and blew me a kiss.
Her parents worked hard, and that’s why uk was the greatest country for centuries and that’s why Queen deserves it. For example Abramovich stole 17 billion$ from Russia and you can buy 17 Buckingham palace with that amount of money but nobody says anything about him.
The contempt of the talking heads seems to ooze so effortlessly; it's quite sad, really. Her majesty has done her best and has done good things for her country and many others as well. And, CBS, enough with the class warfare! We just want to heal and move forward, uniting on that which we value in common.
AJ Hubbell , the news media dont keep people apart. What we must accept is that there are people who dont want to get along with others. They willingly make that choice. No one forces them to be mean and resentful, thats just who they are.
Creepy Jackpot20 They don't live in the Stone Age. In 1976 Her Majesty became the first monarch to send an email. Of course they have computers and mobiles.
October 28, 2017-- wait...I think I see Robin Hood men in tights at 2:47.. uh ahhhh...never mind... I just thought I saw Robin Hood and Prince John at the castle... also I thought I saw Sheriff of Nottingham in the blue shirt and black pants on your right side ... he almost look like he was guarding the castle....but nah...that's not the sheriff......
+john moore hahahahaha that is really rich coming from a foul-mouthed, half-educated piece of trash like you. What the hell you got to crow about? You're the laughing stock of the whole world, with your pretensions and ugly manners. Without exception, every one of the European monarchies is a multi-party, parliamentary democracy. Four of the principal European republics have been dictatorships within the past century. You know nothing john moore, your crap is motivated by ignorance, envy and the realisation you're second rate.
People, please stop disrespecting royal families, and the royal family of any nation. Although they are relatively "useless" in modern times they hold a very huge sentimental value and a lot of great, magnificent history.
I went there last year, oh gosh was so beautiful really nice palace n thinking of going again. lol this year 2019. I wanna meet the queen..lol. It looks likes Almighty God lives in that palace...nice place to visit.... I shamed my enemies ,hahahahah.
