Couldn't agree more. Freedom (from stupid fashions, etc...) and healthy celebration. That's what rock 'n roll is all about. Funny to think: nowadays they would probably be fined or something like of aggression or lack of inclusion, or some stupid intellectual inquisition....
As a fat bottomed girl myself, this song makes me STRUT. It's somehow confidence-inducing to know that Freddie and Brian would have thought my body shape attractive. But I mean, this is a fairly innocuous song in relative terms. So much of the shit on the radio these days is worse. I mean really, "my anaconda don't want none unless it got buns hun"?
Which is a sample from Sir Mix-a-Lot's 1992 hip hop song Baby Got Back, way older than Nikki Minaj's Anaconda. Hell Minaj was probably just a baby when that was released lol (I was 8).
As a girl growing up in the 80's, when sexy was all about FLAT bottom girls, this song meant a lot to me. Just a skinny white girl with some nice junk in the trunk, it made me feel good about myself and realize that boys/men liked what I had too! *shout out to all the Jamaicans in my neighborhood too! Thanks guys for your appreciation ;)
Im so glad that big booties are appreciated these days, when I was a young lad in the 2000s all I saw was boobs boobs boobs skinny legs...eh, boring shit
Cate Malone I’m with you all the way, sis. I LOVE this song and always have. It’s just such a great, joyous, infectious rocker. You cannot sit still to this song.
You skipped what Brian said, he said "when you've Freddie...who like fat bottomed girls...OR BOYS!!" Don't skip that part, man, Freddie loved them both! LOL!
Exactly, he never clarified. My personal feeling is that he was probably like my best friend is....90% gay, but every so often a really beautiful girl walks by and he turns straight hahahaha. Unfortunately, people these days get territorial and want to "claim" certain celebrities. So you have the people who get really uptight when it's suggested that Freddie was bi. As if it even matters.
Had to search for the inner meanings of a lot of Queens music; this one NO, just fat bottom girls. Funny how we were not offended back then. It was like, hell no Queen gave us an anthem.
Yes-- these were awesome times for music-- your smile when the lyrics and the beat blended together, was pure magic. I was an anorexic 18 yr old when this came out, made me want to go out and eat doughnuts! Another tune you couldn't make now is Lou Reed's "Take a Walk on the Wild Side". That was on the radio when I was a kid. Was another 10 + years before I understood all the lyrics!
I went to a ska concert on Saturday night and an old Detroit ska band broke into this song in the middle of one of their own songs, and the entire crowd sang along - and most of them were millennials, not old people like me. It warmed the cockles of my heart knowing that the younger generations know Queen songs.
I was a 16 year-old small bottomed girl when this came out, but not so much at 56 lol This song was my jam back then and still is now. I remember the poster inside the album. I knew I couldn't put it up without WTF parental reactions, so I left it inside the sleeve - boo! As others have said, Bicycle Race is a great accompaniment to this song, and that video - it's freaking awesome lol Get on your bikes and ride, indeed. Thanks for bringing us along on your Queen journey - it's so much fun to watch :D
I couldn't agree more.....i'm 59 now...(only 4'10" and 6 stone 4 lol) was the same back then, but i love this song. Plenty of my friends were big.....so we all loved this song. Still do.....!!!!!💜💜
Mrs Fahrenheit as soon as I read your post I started singing the song, “I want to ride my bicycle, I want to ride my bike, I want to ride my bicycle, I want to ride it where I like “!!!!
I saw Queen live in 1976 when i was 16, The Night At The Opera Tour. I was in the 15th row, still the best concert i've ever seen.!! You should listen to the Queen song I'm In Love With My Car, i think its the only Queen song that Roger Taylor there drummer sings lead vocals and Freddie sings backup vocals.Roger has a great singing voice also.Rock On !!
ptrap7 No, fortunately Roger Taylor sang lead on many Queen songs. Try Fight from the Inside, Modern Times RocknRoll, Tenement Funster, Drowse, and many more.
I was a teen in the 70’s and early 80’s and Queen is simply my favorite group ever. I loved Fat Bottomed Girls because I’m a curvy woman. Queen always made me happy. Still do. Love your reactions and reviews, especially since you look into the background of the song!
First, love TMG and your reactions. Queen to Weird Al to ERB and more than I can mention. 57-year-old grandma here. So when this came out I was 15. For someone from the USA I was an early fan, back to Killer Queen in 1974. Had been there for Bo Rhap, We Will Rock You, etc. I was a chubby girl that found this song super empowering--they were singing about male appreciation for girls like me when there were no boys at school who felt like that. I felt more attractive, thanks to Queen. It was an affirming moment for this 15 year old.
I saw them at Madison Square Garden when they were on their jazz album tour. It was an incredible event. When this song was played they had girls lying around the balcony and thongs riding stationary bicycles. I still have the concert program from that night. I'm sorry you missed that time. You have every right to feel cheated I was 20 years old then. I would love to have any discussion with you about that time, the musical genres that exploded in that decade. You can spend the rest of your life exploring all of the musical genres from 1965 through 1980. And you will never experience everything. I had the pleasure are we experiencing it as it happened in the world that existed at that time. I miss that music and I miss that world LOL
I love your videos and the fact you take the time to read about the song and lyrics 👍 you should definitely check out the live version of this song (live at the bowl) one of my favorite performances
That's my favorite version too! In fact, I think Live at the Bowl (Milton Keynes) is my favorite Queen concert that is out there on DVD (and youtube). They were on fire!!
Lest we forget Sir Mix-a-Lot’s I Like Big Butts. Lol Yes, it was a different time. Some women were kinda upset, I’m sure, but I, myself, didn’t hear too much till the construction workers were no longer allowed to yell at us to do w/e. I’m thinking both artists gave us permission to not have some flat nothing backsides. 😀
I was a skinny-butt white girl in the 70's and early 80's, then puberty hit and with it came about fifty pounds of flesh, including in the butt. But songs like this made me feel like it was okay, so I never worried about my weight. Until my Dad died of heart failure (he was thin) and I realized the extra weight I never thought about needed to go. But, I'm so used to being comfortable with myself, it's hard to come to terms with the health issues it causes. And you know what? Songs like this make me still comfortable with my weight. I love them for that!
Hey Matt, thanks for reaching to "Fat bottom girls". Listen to Queen with earphones, you will appreciate them a whole lot more. Don't forget to listen to "Take my breath away" studio version, you will be amazed! Be a good husband and father, and remember to pray!
Those lyrics were a little off. At the end Freddie says "Get on your bikes and ride!". And then "Alright ride 'em, c'mon." Which is not only cheeky (pun intended) but ties in to "Bicycle Race", partner song to this one. And how could anyone not grin at Queen's humor? They were/are irresistible. 💙
This song to me is a celebration of women of all shapes and sizes. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, as the old saying goes, and a woman’s value isn’t determined by her body type. You can’t help but love this song and bob your head to it! RIP Freddie Mercury #GOAT
For those who don't know. With the Jazz-album back then came (for years) a big poster with a huge number of almost naked fat bottomed girls on race-bicycles. That poster was a bonus for the fans and the link for the single Bicycle race / Fat Bottomed girls. Story goes, that the supplier of the bicycles for this shoot claimed extra money money to replace all saddles.
I think you can make a song like that right now. It just depends on the words you use and in what way you use them. Ed Sheeran did "shape of you" a couple years ago and everyone loved that song. I think the problems start when you compare types of people and when you try to not see them as a person, but as a sexual object
This is one of my fav. of Queen's songs from their earlier beginnings; great beat, lyrics & yeah, I'm a fat bottomed old lady NOW, but not back in the 1970's. I'm so glad you're experiencing & loving Queen. They were so original with their music & Freddie LOVED to entertain the audience as much as he loved to sing. You're right, this song wouldn't make it past GO today , but hell, I loved it then @ 22 & now @ 62.
Yes can we please go back to the times when women didn't lose their shit over every little inuendo that was said & when everyone wasn't so super sensitive about everything..
Brian May wrote this song with Freddie i n mind. I was around in these days and to be honest I don't remember any protests to this song. This song was released in 1978 and I was17 then.
im the biggest feminist ever, but this song was CLEARLY made with only appreciation and no harm in mind. it also helps that its written by brian may, who is such a gentle and kind soul, so i double know i can rock out to this without feeling bad. ESPECIALLY because i myself am a fat bottomed girl, who also happens to like fat bottomed girls, so! this is a double feel good song for me ;)
Brings back so many fun times. We weren't offended at all. We were PROUD and danced Everytime it came on the jukebox! 1980’s Fat Bottom Girl from Old HB, NYC
I was a 17 year old girl when this came out, I was never thin...(and the 70’s was the decade of thin women with no boobs or butts) I had no idea anyone could find fat butts or bodies attractive! My friends and I absolutely loved this song, and to this day it makes me smile when I hear it!
Whenever you feel you finally reached the end of your reaction Tour to Queen, the final reaction video, should be - Queen - No One But You (Only The Good Die Young) Its Queens personal farewell song to Freddie after his death, sung by Brian, Roger and John. And get some tissues.. :-(
Okay ... Another FAVORITE of mine, because when this song came out, I was a Junior in High School and, I had a “beautiful backside, just like the photo on the album cover!!! Ahhh ... those were the good old days!! 🥰🤣🤣🤣 🥰 Great song, greater memories. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻♥️🥰♥️👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Hey from Russia, man! I'm really enjoying your reaction on Queen songs and i want to recommend you to see "Love of my live" in Rock in Rio 1985. You will never find more respect and power from crowd than there. And also will be cool if you can check "Love of my life" in Rio, 2015, it is so breathtaking. Btw, couldn't find video with your reaction on Live Aid performance, have you already did this one? Sorry for bad English, mate, hope you will read and understand! Peace!
When ever they played on the radio they play bicycle race right after it it’s one of those songs like when they play Elton John funeral for a friend they played love lies bleeding or when they play Bob Seger travinlin man they then play beautiful loser they just go together so you really should check out bicycle race it’s hilarious
Lora A...which is typical of double A singles. They get played back-to-back. Just like "We Will Rock You" and "We Are the Champions" are played in this manner being double A singles.
YES 39. BOTH the Freddie (live) and Brian (studio) versions. And the Freddie version must be pre-76 for Roger’s incredible high notes, which he stopped doing live soon after.
I used to sing this as a child. Remember we UK grew up watching Benny Hill, Carry on films with innuendo I didn't understand but my parents did. It was safe as a child to play outside to 9pm with friends.
Political correctness stifles creativity. Thankfully it did not exist back in the 70's. Love this song. One of my favorite Queen rockers. If you want another song that would likely not go over too well try White Man. Another great rocker with a message that would be seen as too political for today.
And actually I discovered the song while watching an episode of „The Cleveland show“😂 and after listening to it I understood the reference in the „bicycle race“ vid😂
I absolutely enjoy your reactions....especially to Queen. 😬😬😬😬😬 I was around when this came out. my very first album was Queen’s “News of the World” after that I was hooked! Then came “The Game”........”Fat Bottom Girls” is one of my husband’s favorite songs. So much that it’s his ringtone when he calls me. If I’m walking ahead of him he starts singing that song. Another fun fact.....at our wedding reception when we got announced to make our grand entrance we had the dj play Queen’s “You’re My Best Friend”. ♥️💓
Love your vids! Your reviews are fun and far more in depth than most. If you’re going to get further into Queen, USE HEADPHONES! You’ll miss half the magic, especially in the early albums, if you don’t. Trust me. You will thank me.
Next you need to react to Bicycle Race as they are tied together and this was on the B side of the single to Fat Bottomed Girls! Hear it as nature intended, 😉
The vinyl album also came with a poster of the nude girls on bikes, and like every Queen poster, it was on my wall! You need to google the video and poster for Bicycle Race. Also watch it Live At The Bowl.
I have to admit I was a teenager the 70's it was pretty awesome. Our music is all we had. So we were outdoors all day and came home at night, pretty much having a blast. It was so much simpler way, way back then. Bro I played the video game Pong when it first came out, I worked at Atari when I was 18. Atari was one of the first companies to make video games.
While wearing high-waisted shiny pants and holographic suspenders: Oh, won't you take me home tonight? Every female Queen fan ever: Like you had to ask.
Although I never had a fat bottom, I love this song. Its my favorite song by Queen. Love the drum beat, tune and lyrics and of course Freddie Mercury is the bomb on this record. I dare anyone to try and sit still listening to "Fat Bottom Girls".......Rock-n-Roll. 😆
Freddie Mercury was something like a mini beast when it came to vocals.. He is one of the best and most unique vocalists to ever walk this earth. There will never be another Freddie Mercury...Never ever..
Besides your openness to music let alone knowledge i love the fact that you research the songs before you listen to them!! I love learning new things about songs i grew up on, and youre now my source. No wonder youre huge on youtube!!
There was a location where they thought that they were having minor earthquake richters and found out it was the vibration from the audience at a Queen concert. That says it all. Celebrate this genius band.
When you were reading it you missed the part where it said I had Fred in mind bc he likes fat bottom girls or boys.So the meaning of the song was not all about women.Well ofcouse it wasn’t all about girls bc Freddie was gay but I’m just saying
Frank Holland acutelly He was not bi.He dated Mary but that was when he didn’t know about his sexuality. After words he would date men but if he wanted he would sleep with men and women but he never had another girlfriend or another date with a women.Even in interviews and documentary Brian May would say he was gay and was not bi.He also said if you were to ask Freddie He would say I’m as gay as can be.So I guess he was bi in the sense that he slept with women and men but he after Mary he never dated another women. He would only date men and have boyfriends after that.
@@Mitchis_Euphoria Also if you even read that quote that started this Brian May himself said that he liked big bottomed women...and men. He dated men and women in his life, Mary Austin was the love of his life and Jim Hutton was his who he was with when he passed
Hanny Hawkins true but what I mean is they dated when he didn’t know his sexuality and after they stayed good friends but never in a relationship after that of course.
You are absolutely correct!! If that title/ song was done today " they'd be coming for you"! Smh, so unfortunate everything offends people these days!!! These are true musicians!!
This is as literal a song as you can get! A lot, of their songs have metaphors, but not this one! It's one my favorite Queen songs, and actually celebrates the beauty of women who are not thin!
hahaha, if you like this lyrics for being naughty, you will love Tie your mother down. Pretty wild song: it's about get your family out of the way, I want to make out with you and I don't need anybody around.... And Michelle Varas in your comments is right. Made in Heaven is soooo beautiful! Hard to believe it's the same band...
The first time I heard this song, I couldn’t get it out of my head and couldn’t quit laughing. Believe it or not, this song did not get any flack in the USA.
Best part about this song is that the leader singer (Freddie) most likely had no interest what so ever in fat bottom girls. Easily one of my fave Queen songs.
