There is a boatload of under appreciated Queen songs. But I have a theory for that. Simply put the depth of quality Queen music is unparalleled. People hear all the hits and figure they know Queen. But what they are missing is the fact that most of Queen's best music is hidden and overshadowed by their bigger hits. Everyone wants to hear BoRap but do not even now that there is an equally epic song on the album called The Prophet's Song. Everyone loves Rock You and Champions but never bother to listen to such amazing songs as It's Late, My Melancholy Blues or Spread Your Wings off the same album. The curse of having such massive hits is sometimes people forget to listen to and appreciate the deep cuts. Which in my opinion are most of Queens best songs.

I couldn’t agree more. With the exception of the work of genius that it Somebody to Love, my faves aren’t in thePlatinum collection because they weren’t singles. It’s Late, ‘39, Brighton Rock, Prophet’s Song, Tear it Up, Dragon Attack, Get Down Make Love, All God’s Children ...... etc. Only the singles make it onto the Greatest Hits. And Queen’s first six albums would be an awesome body of work if they’d never recorded another note.

Queen is great with the hits, but the unknown songs are so much better. Lazing on a sunday afternoon or The Prophets song, It's a hard life, Teo Torriate, Lily of the Valley, Drowse, Sail away sweet sister etc... I used to think that Queen in the 70s is slightly better but in the last weeks I wanted to listen to later albums again and the gems there are there beside the hits are unbelievable. For example One year of love, Dragon attack...

Lap of the Gods is in 2 parts. The (revisited) one, the one you just heard, is part 2. It is much superior to part one, simply titled "In the Lap of the Gods", but the first one has some soooooooooooooaaaaring high notes from Roger in the background that will give you goosebumps!!!!

What you reacted to was In The Lap Of The Gods Revisited. You should now react to the other song titled In The Lap Of The Gods which is a quite different song. You should react to both the studio version and the life one. In that case I suggest you the Live at Rainbow 1974.

One of my favorite Freddie Mercury compositions. One that rarely gets reacted to. Try My Melancholy Blues, Lilly of the Valley, Killer Queen, The Millionaire Waltz, Play the Game, March of the Black Queen. His songs were so lyrically brilliant and varied. Just genius. their older songs are so under appreciated, it’s practically a crime! slightly better than their later hits, imo, and the hammersmith one you can just see the pain and passion. those early-late 70s saw fred reaching new heights with his voice, it’s really incredible to listen to. his later voice gets a grittiness that is lovely and fits their sound in their last few albums. i think he sings in a lower tone in the mid 80s? someone either agree or correct me bec i definitely hear him sing deeper. now do the medley from the 75 hammersmith concert :)))
@hannyhawkins7804
@hannyhawkins7804 5 лет назад
kyaaa I TOTALLY agree re a medley, but strongly recommend London 77 over the Hammersmith 75. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-NaphWfh1OZw.html Deaky owns this medley in his platforms and gangsta flares, Freddie prancing and prowling in pink sequin leotard, shirtless Roger in haystack hair raising the roof while Brian’s trying not to giggle - this is young Queen at their boogying best.

Barbara Saracini Hey, I’m old enough to remember when this was really cool😎 😉. I say bring back 70s fashion and grant us all a little of Freddie’s courage to swagger in it. There’s enough grey in life. Here’s to clothes that make us smile😁. Also, style aside, 70s Queen is fabulous. Treat yourself to a deep dive, if you haven’t already. After all, Queen II and Sheer Heart Attack are widely regarded as two of their best albums. Forgive me if you already know this. I only mention it because of your reaction to their 1977 look.

@kyaaa I AGREE with you about Freddie's voice changing during the 70s or 80s or in his last years. His younger voice had a perfect, lighter-than-air quality when he wanted (and always with that amazing vibrato) for singing in that higher range (Brian said it was "crystal"). Later, his voice developed a richer tone. (It's possible at-that-time, that changes to his voice also came from recurring nodes in his throat, that he started having in the mid-80s?) On their last recordings from around 1989-1991, he sounded very different: His voice lost the strength that it had before (back when Queen was doing all those gigantic concerts). To me, now his singing voice had a kind of "pure" quality (smoother, maybe? IDK) ...and with such heart-felt emotion poured into every line of every last song
@bettybaby63
@bettybaby63 5 лет назад
Take my breath away & white queen from the hammersmith show were hypnotic. 70s Freddie voice was very strong, yet angelic. Some of the older vids show that his voice was often bigger than the venue. I love them both younger & older sound. ❤️❤️

Live! I think it was about his relationship with Mary.. They lived together for 6 years & loved each other& got engaged. She wanted marriage , children & a faithful l oving husband. He loved her but was attracted to men, especially on those long lonely tours So they broke up, but stayed close. Years later he still said he thought of it as a marri age he & referred to her as his common law wife.

"L", you are friggin rocking it on Queen reactions. Setting the trend on "Two-fers" with Seven Seas of Rhye bonus track!!! At Queen concerts, the entire song is Audience Participation. Queen credited GOD with the Thunder clap on the album. That jacket would auction for at least $125K, easily.

"L", Just for the record, this is "In the Lap of the Gods (revisited)". On the Sheer Heart Attack album, side B, starts off with "In the Lap of the Gods" and ends with "In the Lap of the Gods (revisited)", which is this track. Roger Taylor hits incredibly high notes on "In the Lap of the Gods".

Oooof, John's bass in this is so epic. It hits me every time. Also I find it difficult to listen to without swaying side to side (and at home I will usually put my hands in the air as well). And now you gotta do Seven Seas of Rhye properly! In the Wembley video they sing it much lower (and shorter) than the original concert versions (mostly because by this point the higher notes were harder to hit with age - and Roger's falsetto was completely gone by then). They did a great rendition of it live at the Rainbow in 1974. Also for fabulous brilliant fun you need to do the Big Spender/Jailhouse Rock encore medley from the Hammersmith Odeon 1975. I don't know if anyone's posted them as one video but they're pretty seamless and it's loads of fun. In an interview Brian and Roger said it was some of the most fun they had because it wasn't their music so they were a lot more relaxed.

In the lap of the gods revisited is probably one of my favorite Queen songs. It gives off so much power and really makes me sing along. The version at Odeon is incredible and Freddie’s going all out! But the Wembley version is my absolute favorite version! It, again, gives off so much power and it’s one of the few times you see Deaky sing. Plus I actually have a t-shirt of Mercury playing on the piano drawn in the Peanuts style (like Shrouber) it always makes me think of this song. On a side note, that song they played right after was Seven seas of rhye. A great fast paced song for which I love to see Freddie play the opening notes. He’s so fast and I can’t believe he said he wasn’t that good on the piano!

If you are biased then I'm hopelessly biased myself, I love both the studio versions and the live versions and most of their songs are just underrated, there's just no comparison to today's music. In The Lap Of The Gods (Revisited) which you just heard sounds like a glorious march to me, just listen to this when you're in a bad mood or feeling down and you're back up on your feet within seconds. I get it why you can't decide on a favourite song just yet, I can't either. I listen to a couple of new Queen songs every week (those are new to me at least) and my favourite list keeps changing!

No, you're right. So many of their songs are under-rated, so may. That jacket woul probably go for about $100,000 today. Maybe, more after the explosion of interest in Queen and Freddie, due to the BoRhap movie's success.

I enjoy so much watching TMF-comments on Queen songs i know so well. I started with Queen in 1976 at the age of 9 with Bohemian Rhapsody on our just new 1st black / white Philips television. My mum allowed my sister & me to watch "TopPop" - the only (dutch) program for popular music back then. Under condition we did not forget our dinner. We did not had a dad or mum into pop or rock, so this extravagant Rhapsody BLEW me totally away and since then i was a Queen and Mercury fan. I know all 70's albums WELL and some of them i bought them just after release. The admiration disappeared a bit with the disappointing "Hot Space" (early 80's_ when hard rock was gaining my interest) but after so many years, yeah also the 80's were super creative and commercially beyound belief succesfull. People born after (let's say) 2000 sometimes do not realize that by abensence of internet (and RU-vid) you did not had much opportunities to follow your heroes (IF you had, it was printed press). This video here is from Sheer Heart Attack which is a COOL album. The last of the Trident-area which made Queen financially frustrated and bankrupt.

If you like "Seven Seas of Rhye" and "Lap of the Gods", I suggest listening to "Teo Tortriate," "Lazing on a Sunday Afternoon," "You're My Best Friend," and "Play the Game." These are just a few of my personal underrated Queen songs. OH! I also suggest listing to the entire album of "Sheer Heart Attack" and "A Night at the Opera." Not a single bad song on either album. Several Queen videos with a lot of views get taken down and then they appear again and the views start all over again. Music critics and the United States media were always unfair to Queen. As far as I can tell, Queen is the only group that solely wrote their songs. The Beatles, for example, co-wrote their songs. Freddie solely wrote Seven Seas of Rhye, Killer Queen, Bohemian Rhaspdy, Somebody to Love, Don't Stop Me Now, Crazy Little Thing Called Love, We Are The Champions. Brian May, Roger Taylor, John Deacon all solely wrote hits too.

Freddie loved Motown and he wrote this so you are on point with the Motown sound. Freddie gave that jacket to his partner, Jim Hutton who auctioned it off after Freddie's death. I would kill to have that jacket, it is fantastic. You would have to look at all the options for the song to get a real view count, honestly. Live is always better because of the energy of the band. My feeling is that this is about relationships and how hard it is for someone in Freddie's position to find one that is real. People are more interested in his fame and his money than in him as a person, they want that guy on stage which is not who he is in real time, so he just needs to leave the outcome of his relationships in the lap of the gods. Or more simply put, if it is meant to be, it will be, he can't change who he is so either he is accepted for himself or it can never be. Freddie had a very lonely life for the most part and it was only near the end that he was able to surround himself with people who actually loved him. Before that time, his family was his cats, the band and a long time friend named Mary Austin who Freddie said was his only real friend and that she was all he needed. In fact, the men in the band really were his family but it is a difficult thing when you work together every day and have to argue over what will be the best for the group in the long run. Also having to be together while touring all the time, they all just needed to take breakes from one another. In Freddie's final days, the men in the band did everything they could for Freddie, writing music for him to sing because that is what Freddie wanted to do. It was extremely difficult for Brian, Roger and John to see Freddie so frail but they put on their best party faces and did what they could for thieir friend and tried to keep things upbeat for Freddie's sake. I saw an interview of Roger and Brian a week after Freddie's passing and they both looked haggared and sad, Roger was even angry because he was disgusted by the things he was reading in the press about Freddie which was all untrue. They both were still so wounded over losing Freddie, they had been together nearly every day for 20 years. The interviewer said it would be hard to see Queen on stage without Freddie, and Roger said it was "incomprehensible." It took the band about 18 months before they could go back into the studio and start working on the tracks that Freddie had left for them and for a while all the members wondered if they would actually ever be able to do it.

Unfortunately there are people out there with small, closed minds and they will watch the videos of the songs that they know have been on the top of the charts, but they will not go and listen to the entire CD / album because, God forbid they actually open their mind and learn for themselves what Queen songs they like. There is nothing worse than a fake ass Queen fan or a fake ass any band fan who will sit there and say oh man I love this song so much, it's so great, or oh this is my favorite song, or have you heard this song?, Oh my God it's so good, and every song they name is a top hit, but if you ask them what was your favorite song that wasn't a top 10 hit? Like what song did you feel should have been a top 10 hit but it just didn't make it? They'll sit there and look at you and go, um, err, ahh, hmmm, well, because they don't know any other songs because they've only gone as far to listen to the popular stuff. It irks me to no end. They want to be a fan, they sit there and act like they know all these songs and they're the biggest fan ever, just to be cool. Yet they don't know Jack about the band. They don't know Jack about the music that wasn't a hit, they don't know squat unless it was spoon fed to them from the Billboard charts or put in a movie about the band. God that shit drives me nuts.

Loved this! My personal favorite is the live at Wembley. Freddies voice is just so beautiful that entire concert! You should definitely react to Who Wants To Live Forever (live at Wembley), I Was Born To Love You and Its A Hard Life.

Now you should react to In the Lap of the Gods live since you did Revisited. Apparently during the Odeon all 4 of them had the flu.

Another great reaction to another amazing Queen song.The older Queen songs are so under appreciated, which is a big shame. Can you please react to Breakthru? The bassline on that is amazing. :P Sadly there's no live version of it.

You know what would make a really good reaction video is the performance of Bohemian Rhapsody with Freddie Mercury, Elton John and Axl Rose at the memorial concert the year after Freddie died. Freddie makes an appearance, so to speak, in that performance and actually for 1990 it was pretty awesome to do that with the technology of that time. Awesome and amazing. I wonder why they haven't done something with Freddy in a hologram like they did with Tupac. You would think, as big as Freddie was, that when Queen is on tour they would do like one song with Freddie in hologram form. Oh my God the freaking audience would go nuts.

FYI - Florida Gators Women's Gymnastics team is awesome. 2018 - Third place Nationally, and this week they won their first home meet. I know at least 5 young women on the team that were Elite or National Team members. I love the live versions of Queen's songs because of the energy level. Also, in live performances you always get something different. Their earlier performances were different than their later performances. Freddie's singing and performance style evolved over time. It's interesting to watch the two different performances and compare. I think they are both great performances. I really want to see you react to the Who Wants To Live Forever Live version. Live at Wembley 1986 would be a good version to react to. It's so different than the studio version, and I love the exchange of the energy of the band with the audience. Please? Thank you for your reactions. I actually look forward to them.

The one you are reacting to is Lap of the gods revisited. I agree with the commentators listen to the first one. The drummer Roger Taylor high falsetto is amazing it will have you shooked

Lamar, this isn’t Lap of the Gods. it’s Lap of the Gods Revisited. They’re two different songs. Now you will have to do the famous Lap of the God NOT revisited at the Rainbow 74, when Roger’s otherworldly harmonies were blowing everyone’s minds.

Thank you for this video. I grew up with this music and this is one of my favorite songs. You're right, this is not one of the big hits, but Queen has so many great songs that aren't huge hits. I love seeing someone discover the deep cuts. And these live versions are so amazing!

FYI: Freddie was cremated and was placed somewhere only he and his “Wife”, Mary Austin knows of. He didn’t want his remains to be dug up. Me, I have thought about where he was put to rest and I keep going back to perhaps his remains are inside the statue in Montreal, overlooking Lake Geneva, his favorite place, specifically in the microphone/stand. Just Saying. 1980’s Fat Bottom Girl from Old HB, NYC
