Queen Mary does it again! The makeover of the dress was a perfectly subtle, breezy color with a gorgeous organza top that elevates the look. The tiara is stunning! Everything she has worn lately has been so tasteful. Crown Princess Mett-Marit of Norway is so beautiful and elegant. Lovely tiara, and necklace. Brittany, I loved the Ann Taylor dress linked in a previous video. You looked lovely. Thank you!!!

Queen Mary's lilac gown looked super elegant with the organza top and the sheer overlay. I didn't know that this was the gown she wore that the Prince Carl Phillip's wedding in 2015. The more you know. The rework is great I would love it if the British royal ladies do rework on their gala gowns. The Pearl tiara looked amazing it her brunette hair.

There are several reasons why Mary chose the pearls for Norway: Queen Lovisa (Louise) of Denmark (1851-1926) was actually not only the mother of the Danish crown prince, her second oldest son was chosen by the Norwegians as king (= the current king's grandfather) after the dissolution of the union with Sweden. He was named Prince Carl (after his grandfather) but was renamed to the more Norwegian-sounding name Håkon VII when he became king of Norway. That is why Queen Mary wore the set of pearls during the state visit to Norway. Queen Lovisa was born - as Brittany said - as a Swedish princess and became Crown Princess and Queen of Denmark through marriage. She inherited the ruby set (which Mary wore on the state visit to Sweden from her grandmother, Swedish Queen Josefina and the pearl set which Mary wore in Norway from her mother who inherited it shortly before her death from her parents.

Queen Mary of Demark is from Scottish parents who moved to Australia and she was born is Tasmania, so both the British and Australian's both want to lay claim to her provenance. What I admire about Queen Mary is that she learnt to speak Danish and and appears to practise Danish culture, and oddly speaks English with a Danish accent.

It's the crown in the Danish Crown Jewel collection. Littlerally. None of the other sets have a tiara. The coronation Crown of Christian the V (the symbol of Denmark as a monarchy) is considered regalia and not part of the Crown Jewels.

I find it so interesting to see how the royal women are reusing or reworking their gala gowns. Queen Sonja’s coral gown has been in action since 1995! Mette Marit’s evening skirt was a rewear (I’m not sure about the jacket) and Mary’s gown was brilliantly reimagined. I’m going to make a leap and guess that she was probably happy to have the sheer fabric wrapped around her neckline because I don’t think she’s overly fond of wearing large, ornate necklaces. Just an unprovable hunch based on her track record.

Queen Mary is a beautiful, stylish, quiet royal woman, who is not about flaunting the jewelry, but sharing and respecting the deep history importance for these incredible European pieces that often show what the social relationships are, bc the jewelry is an expression of the Noble, Aristocratic, Royal classes, therefore some of these pieces denote a special relationship that crosses into various households bc of alliances, marriages, honorary gifts. European jewelry is a fascinating subject to delve into. Once the Europeans stated circumventing the world, they got, collected, stole many incredible gems from Asia, Africa, India, South America and so on. Such amazing precious gems are still in sight and awareness. Most should be in a collective World museum for everyone to appreciate, understand and know about how they became the incredible historical jewel they are. So amazing. I love Queen Sonia’s exquisite Emerald parure. Gorgeous. One of my favorite jewelry ensemble in Europe. I like many, many pierces. Thx Brittany for sharing so many wonderful historical points and how gorgeous much of the European Royalty jewelry is! 👍🥰♥️

Thank you for the nice podcast! Yes, queen Mary of Denmark looked absolutely amazing! I think, I like her look even more than the one she wore at the state banquet in Sweden. This light blue/lilac gown with the pearl tiara gives some lightness and freshness as compared to the one with the golden skirt she wore in Stockholm. I also miss the British tiaras. I was disappointed to see the British royal ladies wearing some substitute headbands at the king’s coronation. I understand that it has to do with the cost of living crisis and it’s great the royals are sensitive to that, but, c’mon, when else to wear the tiaras than on the coronation ceremony?

Queen Mary of Denmark is quite a woman. To be born an upper middle class child in Australia, living for a time in Texas USA as a child, and then moving back to Australia with her family. Several years later, after Mary finished college and had worked for a few years, she meets Crown Prince Frederik of Denmark who was in Sydney for the Olympic Games. They became engaged and the lovely Mary moved to Denmark and started learning how to speak Danish, which is a difficult language for a native English speaker. She not only learned to speak in Danish, she became fluent in Danish. She and Frederik had 4 children and she became Queen in January, 2024 when Frederiks Mother, Queen Margrethe abdicated in favor of her son, the new King Frederik. Queen Mary, in all her years as Crown Princess and now as Queen Mary of Denmark has never put a foot wrong and is greatly beloved by the native Danish people. Australians are incredibly proud of her, as they should be. She is Royalty done right.

Brittany…… I am not sure of what you mean when you say a jewel belonged to “X of Co-knot”. Do you mean Connaught? In that case it’s pronounced Con-aught or Con-awt (with a lengthening of the “au” or “aw”) as per the British pronunciation of the Province of Connaught in Ireland. Of course we Irish pronounce it totally differently, as in “Cun-nocht”, from the Irish Connacht. Thank you for your historical information…… I love your channel!
@dorisschneider-coutandin9965
@dorisschneider-coutandin9965 Месяц назад
Well, this was not the first of her severe mispronunciations. Also "Pearl Poiré" is still wrong, as is "Leuchttenberg", which sounds here like some weird, fallen-out-of-grace, connection to "Luxemburg" and "Liechtenstein". Not even to mention Danish designer Birgit Hallstein - constantly pronounced wrong. It's Birgit and not Brigitte for a start. And then try to go for "Hull-steyn".

Queen Margrethe ll of Denmark, did NOT abdicate the Throne on the 31st December 2023. She Announced her Intention to Abdicate the Throne of Denmark, in favour of her Son, Crown Prince Frederik, on the 14th January 2024, the 52nd Anniversary of her Own Accession to the Throne. The Danish Constitution says that A Council of State Meeting must be called & The Monarch must Formally Sign the Articles of Abdication in their Presence. Once the Articles of Abdication are Signed & only then, the Council will declare the Throne Vacant. Then they invite the Crown Prince to take the Throne at Which Time He Must Re-Take his Oath to Uphold the Constitution, for the Second Time (The First Time was at 18yrs Old & when he was Recognised as Crown Prince & Queen Margrethe ll 's Heir). At this particular Meeting, Prince Christian also took The Oath to Uphold the Constitution & was Recognised by the Council as the Crown Prince of Denmark & Heir to King Frederik X of Denmark. The Prime Minister of Denmark in the Capacity as Chairman of the Council of State, Announces to the Council, the New Monarch of Denmark, by his Regenal Name, then the New Crown Prince & The Council stand & Acknowledge their King (in this instance) by Bowing or Curtseying. After the Formalities of The Council of State are Complete, the Prime Minister formally Announces, on the Balcony overlooking the Assembled People of Denmark, that their Queen, Margrethe ll has Abdicated & They have a New King, King Frederik X. The Announcement is made 3 times, facing the 3 Points of The Compass. The Throne can not Stay Vacant, The Monarch Leaves, The Throne is Vacant for a Few Minutes only, The New Monarch is Recognised & takes their Place on the Throne. This Information should help you in the Future, Every Monarchy in the World works the Same, whether by Death or Abdication, The New Monarch is Proclaimed within Minutes of the Old Monarchs Death or Abdication. Only the British Monarchy still has a Coronation following the Proclamation, the Rest of The World's Monarchies only have a Proclamation.

Portuguese history nerd here: King Pedro was King of Portugal (Pedro the IV), but I believe he lived most of his life in Brazil, after the Portuguese court moved there because of Napoleon’s invasion of the Iberian peninsula. Anyway, king Pedro was always more affectionate towards Brazil, and it was he who declared the independence of Brazil - becoming Emperor Pedro the I, of Brazil. However, a civil war broke out in Portugal between liberals (represented by Pedro) and the absolutists (represented by his younger brother, Miguel). King Pedro returned to Portugal to fight in the civil war and the liberals won. I do believe that at some point he was king Pedro IV of Portugal and emperor of Brazil at the same time. His throne was then passed to his daughter - Maria, who became the first female reining monarch in Portugal. I believe he didn’t had any connection to Spain, as you mentioned in the video, however I might be wrong. He was a brave man, and his passion for Brazil was admirable. I’m not aware of any other heir to the kingdom of the “metropolis” declaring independence of a “colony”. Obviously this needs to be seen in the context of the late 18th century/ yearly 19th century reality. But anyway, a cool character for those times.

That's what I keep telling her again and again, to no avail. I get the feeling, she simply doesn't care but that puts a damper on her claimed professionalism, and her background as a historian. In Europe, when studying in that field, you need most likely profound knowledge of Latin, and/or French, English anyway, and perhaps some basic German as well. Otherwise you won't get too far. .

It’s so interesting how several of the royals in Europe ( such as Mary and Maxima) are from foreign countries but, unlike Meghan, took time to learn the rules and protocols and even the languages of their husbands’ lands. They serve their new countries with dignity and grace. I feel so ashamed that Harry chose such a poor bride, who seemed determined from the outset to not respect the tremendous role she had stepped into. What a waste. What a wastrel.
