The mystical songs Freddie wrote derived from stories he made up for his sister when they were kids, Brian shouldn't have been upset because Freddie wrote it. Thanks for your reaction to both albums.

Agree. To me it just sounds like he was possessive of something very close and personal to him, which is understandable.

I received this album as a 14th birthday present in December 1974. It was the first album I ever owned and I've still got the album fifty years later. Queen II is my favourite Queen album even though no songs on there are ""favourites" with the exception of "White Queen". It is an album you have to listen to in one go - you cant dip in and out - it has to be listened to from start to finish and in that respect it becomes a "concept" album even though there is no concept. I suppose that is partly due to the way so many songs segue together giving the album a flow and also why "Seven Seas Of Rhye" is stuck at the end even though it was a single - it is distinct yet very much a part of the album and a fantastic closer with the ending saying "don't take this too seriously, folks" as May plays the Stylophone along to "Oh I Do Like To Be Beside The Seaside". I'd send you the vinyl, but I've had it for fifty years and not letting go now! Besides, it's been played to death.

This is the first major track of Queen to reach any significant chart. It went up to 10 in the UK. It is a part of Greatest Hits 1 of course.

The Brian may thing about the money was a bit out of context, because even Freddie didnt know about the money difference at the time.Later, they credited all songs as written by Queen. It was a hit single Justin in the UK,reaching number 5. played a bunch on AOR stations here

I do agree with what you said. For anyone to say any negative things about the person who is no longer alive is so wrong. I remember seeing something on RU-vid either yesterday or the day before where Brian May saying something about Freddie made a big “Mistake” on his own solos songs … I can’t remember the exact words on that first paragraph but it sounds negative, so I didn’t want to read it. It reminded me of the various negative statements he made before about Freddie Mercury. It really makes me sad to see Brian May saying things like that when it’s totally unnecessary and unprofessional, imo. What’s the point? What’s his purpose?

I hope you will continue with this Queen journey! Sheer Heart Attack is one of my favorite Queen albums and for me, when they really came into their own. Sheer Heart Attack is very diverse but more focused with an amazing flow and when it gets heavy, it gets heavy!

we all had some groups' Greatest Hits albums and skipped songs to play just our favorites over & over.

Also beside the fact it is the only Queen song to aprear on 2 different studio albums, (Queen being the first one), it is the only song outside the story & concept of Queen's only concept album.

Yes, you have most likely heard it on the greatest hits. They knew what they were doing right out of the gate. They were heavier in the earlier albums, it gets more radio friendly starting on the third album.

Brian May has said he thinks he wrote part of the second middle 8th which I think is the solo I don't blame Freddie for this especially if it was the guitar solo Brian may have involved himself more than Freddie wanting help! it's not fair for him to expect shared credit and money for the single after that Freddie said if he'd prefer to do his own solo on his (Freddies songs) that's fine but it would be uncredited so that's what they did Freddie helped John and Roger a lot with their songs without credit

I am with you on the Queen journey. I realize you won't be doing all of it, just the beginning part, but I really appreciate your POV. That is how I decided to get into Queen a few years back... start with the first album & listen to it for a month then move on to the next one. I hope you do Sheer Heart Attack - sounds like maybe you will?

It is true that they get more radio friendly later on. But their hardest riff ever is probably on Sheer Heart Attack. Remember that Metallica has covered "Stone Cold Crazy". It has been named as a trash metal song that came before the genre was invented. Its probably not true. But it is indeed a song that inspired metal bands later on. As mentioned Metallica is one of them. Dream Theater are also huge fans of the Sheer Heart attack album. They have covered Tenement Funster/Flick of the Wrist/ Lily of the Valley.

One of the greatest I've heard. From anyone. Ever. It's daring, creative, touching, silly, bombastic... the list goes on. Breathtaking will have to sum it up. I was born in the year of ots release. I am 50 soon and have asked for this magical album on vinyl as a present.

You should definitely do the next album. Brighton Rock is my personal favorite and is a super cool song by Brian. The solo is what he uses in every show.

It's opera vs theater - it sounds to me like Queen II actually edges out The Dreaming in grabbing your interest, which I guess makes sense since "opera" is sort of more exclusive than "theater" (obviously "theater" is all about drawing the crowd, but opera tilts a little more towards being musically "worthy"...), didn't expect this, but makes sense in hindsight, and yet again, I feel like I"ve learned something new from this channel... 😁

one of Freddies it was their first single to chart no 10 UK 1994 they did 3 performances on top of the pops initially only because Bowie couldn't make it! they had to record in the weather studio because of BBC strike!

Bro I am a Queenologist so it is interesting to me why you are doing an indeapth research and reaction to Queen? And also take some of Brian and Roger's quotes lightly. Especialy the ones after Freddie's death. I am here to advise if you need anything.

Rye is a Sea Side coastal town in Sussex on south coast of England. Maybe that was what triggered the Seaside outro.!

I love all four of the guys. I love Brian. But to be fair Brian has a tendency to exaggerate ( example… the movie ) If Freddie actually said ‘ it’s my song’ … so what… it was his song and he felt strongly about the things he was writing since his childhood… Brian has said several things about Freddie that seem slightly questionable since Freddie died. Then he always adds that he loved Freddie… … and I believe he did. Anyway just my thoughts as a forever fan. Maybe it’s best not to get into who said what because they’re not all here now and just react to their incomparable music. Thanks for your reaction✌🏼

In answer to your question, "what song would have been the single, if not The Seven Seas of Rhye?", in my opinion, The Fairy-Feller's Masterstroke could have been successful as a single. It is an incredibly catchy and entertaining song.

The creativity and outstanding musicianship are beyond question, but the production to me, is lacking, Roger Taylors snare and bass drum can barely be heard most of the time but thankfully on Sheer Heart Attack, everything sounded pristine, this in no way is intended to unduly undermine the incredible talents of all concerned!
