There were times, late in Queen's career, where QUEEN seemed determined to make us forget they were a heavy rock band. Fortunately, Brian always reminded us, if only on increasingly fewer tracks. But this is from the early days when (on their first 3 albums) they rocked as hard as ANYONE.
@@davidbaron8330 It was more their mid career when they went a little too hard into synth and disco that took away from their more rocking music. The Works was pretty much Hot Space but with some more Rock tracks. A Kind Of Magic however, that album is their welcome return to their heavy metal roots and even continues where they left off on Queen II with more fantasy lyrics, symphonic and progressive structures, and even diving back into the sword and sorcery genre of heavy metal that they essentially invented back in '74 on Queen II, a little genre you might know now as FUCKING POWER METAL!!! Afterwards, The Miracle was less heavy but still very strong in the Rock territory and Innuendo features some of their most Rocking tracks the ever released! So it was just that The Game/Flash Gordon/Hot Space/The Works period where they went too Poppy.
Jamal, you also need to listen to the Metallica version of this song, too. It's not better than the Queen version, but it's different and worthy of the original in a different way. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-O3IrqmsC2rY.html
The live version of this is amazing!!! yes, the song is short. That is why i suggested doing both Queen and Metallica's versions back to back. Both so good!
You've GOTTA do this live at the Rainbow '74. I love the studio version but the Rainbow version shows you the intensity of young Freddie & Queen in their early days.💙
They had a lot of heavier songs early on, also try Keep Yourself Alive, Ogre Battle, Great King Rat, Son & Daughter and, even though it was released later on, Sheer Heart Attack
ShariSez1 Yes, but Sheer Heart Attack, the song, wasn’t on Sheer Heart Attack, the album. It’s was on News of the World - recorded next door to the Sex Pistols.
Jamel, in a time of riots, unrest and anger, you are doing more to promote harmony, love, understanding and peace through your RU-vid channel than a bus full of D.C. politicians. My hat’s off to you, brother!
Actually there has been at least 4 other channels that have done reactions to 'Let Me Entertain You.' Not that Jamel shouldn't hear it, cause it is a great song and he definitely should, I just wanted to inform you is all.
@Michelle Preston That's more fact than opinion. When you can do a song that sounds like something The Lennon Sisters would do (Bring Back That Leroy Brown), and then something Metallica would do (Stone Cold Crazy), on the same album, _AND_ have them both sound equally as good, then you are the epitome of diversity. 😉🤘
You've GOTTA do the live at the Rainbow version!! I love the studio version too but the Rainbow version shows you the intensity of young Freddie & Queen in the 70's. They can always surprise you! And please, "Dragon Attack" live Montreal '81 for their funky side. It's also worth doing BOTH the studio version (so crisp!) AND live (a look at each band member highlighted & interaction between them).💙
Sheer Heart Attack is a phenomenal album. In the lap of the god's revisited is fab, a definite rival to we are the champions. Jamal, I think you'd love 'Bring back that Leroy Brown'
@@rodneyprill4618 Brighton Rock. Some of the best guitar work ever by a relatively unknown player at that time. I still can't play it note for note like Bri because of all of the legato and vibrato. He makes Mr. Ed look like a rummage sale. It is their 5 ☆ album that punched them through to the charts with "Killer Queen".
@@kittyprydekissme Freddies vocal range really strikes throug "In the Lap of The Gods", why can't he still be with us. He lived his gift for himself.and his certain fans.

One of my all-Time fave songs to play live. Back when I was playing. A couple of times I mixed up the first verse and my drummer just kept on playing that beat. Turns out the fans enjoyed it so I would keep it going. Thank you
@Noob Noob Yeah, I'm well aware. I was commenting on Jamel's reaction/discovery that there's several forms of metal. I look forward to when he takes that plunge
One of my favorites, but live, it is incredible!! Great reaction to one of the first speed/thrash metal songs ever written! Freddie's lyrics are so clever!
So odd that Queen never won a Grammy until they were presented a 'Lifetime Achievement' award, but Metallica won a Grammy with this song in '89! Thanks!
Brilliant clip. The 'Sheer Heart Attack' album (My favorite) has early tracks never played on radio. - Tenement Funster, Brighton Rock. Lap of the Gods. all worth a listen and their first hit Killer Queen
You can't go wrong with "The Show Must go on". One of Freddie's very last songs. It is absolutely incredible but emotional. This is a quote from Brian- May states; "I said, 'Fred, I don't know if this is going to be possible to sing.' And he went, 'I'll f***ing do it, darling'-vodka down-and went in and killed it, completely lacerated that vocal".
Nice - great song! Queen's sound is so varied: comes from having 4 song writers in the group. This is definitely one of their best rockers. Be well, stay safe. Peace from SF #BLM
I sent this request in a while ago. You have to love how lyrical they were and started the heavy metal movement. Thank you Jamel her playing this there's also black queen that's awesome too.
Hey Jamal...the best way to appreciate Queen is to first watch Queen Live at the Rainbow 74, and then Queen Live in Montreal...the live at the rainbow show was recorded 2 weeks before they went into the studio to record Bohemian Rhapsody...you can truly see how they progressed so drastically within 6 years...during this time they put out these little songs such as We Will Rock You, We are the Champions, Play the Game, Another one bites the Dust, Flash (aaaahhaaaaa) just to name a few
What a rippin’ song! Just when you think you know Queen...BOOM! Always fun when someone hears this for the first time & they ask, “who is this?” “It’s Queen man!” “Queen? Wait..what..noooo...Queen?” Thanks (as always) Jamel! You are a gift!
Queen II is one of the greatest story albums ever made. You really have to listen to All of Side A as it's a continuous story. It's one of those times when you lay back, put on the headphones and be transported to a different world that feels hauntingly familiar.
Queen..o man..Bohemian Rhapsody still remains as one of the best songs ever..but there are plenty more great songs by them that need reviewing by you!!
For something you would never expect from Queen, give The Miracle a listen. Written and recorded when Freddie knew he was dying of AIDS, but full of life.
