This is the Friday show, the first of the two legendary nights at Wembley. Queen "Live at Wembley Stadium": July 11, 1986. (*Ripped and uploaded by Fabio Tosti)
I need to vent... I'm 40. Born Aug/75. I'm ashamed to admit I never really knew of Queen.... Mostly for several songs.... But, I NEVER REALLY KNEW QUEEN!!! Up until this week in January 2016- David Bowie passed away, ... I never really knew Bowie either, sake scenario. I've been watching RU-vid videos on both of them since yesterday....... It's now 1:50am.... Something about this song which I'm really hearing for the first time, (watched over and over)and how Freddy performed it gets me to the point of tears. Sorry guys, I've just now in my life learned the story behind Queen and Freddy Mercury. An amazing group, an amazing performer, an amazing person. This song's tribute with David Bowie and Annie Lennox gets me as well. I'm actually feeling depressed. REST IN PEACE Freddy... Old fans and new ones, and into the future will never forget you brother!! Christopher
+Christopher Schemer All I can say is, welcome to the fold. When, someone like me, was raised hearing Freddie on the radio and of course dear Bowie, both such huge influences, I'm already instilled with the knowledge of what true genius and talent are, and both of these wonderful men, God rest both of their souls, embody. Enjoy and keep listening to good music. And I don't mean to sound like an old fogy but, yes, it was better back in the day :)
+SDGlambert5045 Friends of mine keep surmising over who might be next and I keep telling them to stop. Let's enjoy who we have today and celebrate the gifts of the ones that are passed on.
I love how Freddie dressed. He just didn't care about impressing people about it. That and his charisma and charm that he put into his live performances. It's a shame that no artists put any effort into their show anymore. Jumping around doesn't count
Freddie Didn't give a fuck what people thought of him. He was gay during I time were gays were shunned and hated, yet people didn't care about him being gay/bisexual. He only cares about public opinion about his AIDS diagnosis which he kept a secret until literally 24 hours before he died.
I have loved queen songs since I was 20 years old. another one bites the dust is my favorite. I tell people I have listened to that song do many times its in my dna ......... wish I could have been there .
I feel so fortunate that I got to see these guys in concert in Jan 1977. What a show! They came out with Tie your Mother Down and that set the tone for the rest of the show. Added Bonus: Thin Lizzy was Special Guest. Venus was Louisville Gardens. I was 15!!
Gosh.. the talent.. the pure awesomeness. I love this song SO much it is my favorite song. Such a shame that Freddy and David never did it together live.. I like the one with Annie Lonnox but what it would have been like if they could have done it live.. Queen.. so amazing.. Freddy with one of if not the greatest voice ever.. I would kill to go back and see him live just one time. Here's to rock and roll !!!!
Christopher Schemer, yes, same here. I've only just realized what a great band and how wonder Freddie was. Im now addicted to watching everything on youtube thats from Queen. Freddie is the bomb, and i also love Brian, Roger and John. Wow, what an awesome talented band. R.I.P. my dear Freddie.
Bob Sacamono in this concert (and in live aid as well) his vocal range was severely damaged due to a throat infection caused by HIV. Once healed, his vocal range came back stronger than ever, which is why freddie's range was so high and soft after 1988
If you go back to the Bowl 82, he could even reach the “high” and the “why”. That was the time when his voice was in the best shape ever (Hammersmith 79 and Newcastle 79 were also good too)
Goddamn the sheer power and clarity of his voice that breaks through every instrument at the start just made me rewind and listen to it again and again.
Freddie had the best vocals of any front man ever! There is no argument on that. It's truly heartbreaking here to see his shape in this performance, the Virus had clearly already worn him down. He can't hit notes he was hitting 3 years prior to this. As much as I love this video, it's bittersweet to watch. :( RIP Freddie and Bowie.
His HIV did not affect his voice. He did some of his best studio work on the years after this. He caught a cold in the Newcastle gig two days earlier and hadn't really shaken it by this time. By Manchester 7/16 he was hitting high notes again.
Freddie was not diagnosed with aids until 1987. You do not know what you are talking about. This was a solid live performance for him. Not sickly at all, it's your imagination. Freddie normally did not hit all the high notes in concert that he would hit on record and this was at the end of the tour.
This wasn't at the end of the tour, this was July 11th. The tour wouldn't end until the Knebworth gig on August 9th. It is true that Freddie is not hitting notes here that he was hitting in years prior. His live performances from 1979-1982 were his most consistent and overall most daring, but some later gigs from 1986 are also pretty good. For example, he stopped going for the A4 at 1:51 after 1985. He did in fact have a cold at this concert, but it didn't really affect his performance too much until the second night, July 12th, where partying after this performance and general vocal strain combined with the cold to roughen up his voice. The heavy overdubbing on the second night is testament to that problem, whereas the first night has almost no overdubs.
Not diagnosed, but he likely contracted HIV sometime during the summer of 1982. The virus can go dormant years and then hit like a freight train. He knew. He may not have come to terms with it yet, but he knew what was happening.
You do realize this is full of overdubs, right? Also, I think his studio performances outshone many of his live ones. Just compare Staying Power on the album to live.
omg...what the hell happened to the extended version where he sings with the crowd before the song? how could some one take that down....seriously wtf ..
yeah omg! i've been searching it for like an hour and couldn't find it anymore..i love that version though. its so sad they took that off here in youtube :(
Im 48. I knew some of the songs, maybe from MTV. Embarrassingly it has been the last 4 year I've been a huge fan, more so Freddie. Beautiful, brave and amazing musician and performer. You can't emmulate that. Putting a crown on, crawling on a velvet chase lounge, dying hair orange dose not qualify to go down in history as the greatest front-man ever. Watching Adam makes me ill.and Brian may.
Freddie and his DRUMMER!! PERFECT! BESTS Bowie and Annie Lennox -- HEY --Queen picks the FASTER tempo !! I am STILL waiting to see/hear another singer better than Freddie.........and I'm over 50+ years....
First off, fuck thumbs up, i just want to say, i am a hardcore hiphop fan, but also a rock fan, and in my opinion freddie was the best rock singer ever..
RIP Freddie. Even if you were still alive today following the 25th anniversary of your death next year, if even you and Adam Lambert would do a duet version of is song so Adam can sing David's lines like he did yours the same way Roger sang David's lines too during all Q+AL regional tours between in 2014 (North America, Asia, New Zealand and Australia) and in 2015 (UK, Europe (minus Belgium that was canceled for Adam being sick for 24 hours so it continued on without it for resuming in Italy) and now South America including Rock In Rio Brazil's BIG 30th celebration). We miss you, Farrokh Bulsara aka Freddie Mercury, 9/5/1946 - 11/24/1991. Your legend lives on forever!
And to think Adam fucking Lambert is singing this legends songs. Some things should be left alone. You'll never find a voice like this nor the stage presence.
queen will rock forever best band ever was freddie mercury as vocals so much talent dont reall understand answers never known rest with the kings of rock
looking forward 2 the movie of freddies life I hope its worth seeing. the guy who did borat will be playing Freddie. i'm a 70s kid this is my generation of music. as steven tyler quoted the 70s was good 2 me yeah. rest in peace mercury.
