Whether Freddie knew or not at this time is something we can only speculate on. It’s true however,that one knows their own body and with friends around them getting sick,he surely knew it was a possibility. But ever to the end,he lived with passion and to entertain. Long live FM! ✨

Queen is still touring and released a live record last year of their best performances over the past 10 years. After Freddie's death Queen didn't think they would tour again. They did a celebration of his life concert and it took a number of artists to cover the different songs because of the range of vocal abilities it took to sing them. After the show their bass player John Deacon decided he was finished performing. The other's did solo projects and then Paul Rogers from Bad Company joined with them and they toured for a couple of years. He didn't have the range to sing all of their songs. They parted and they figured they were done. A young singer came on American Idol and sang Bohemian Rhapsody at his tryout. He was incredible and when he sang Whole Lot of Love by Led Queen's keyboard player contacted Roger Taylor and told him about Adam and Brian May said he was getting a lot of calls and emails telling him this guy was their new front man. They played at the finale of American Idol and had an instant connection with Adam Lambert. They had to wait because he had an album and a couple of tours to do. They did ask him to sing with them for an awards show in Europe and from their they started touring. I'm a Freddie fan from back in the 70s and wasn't sure if I was ready to hear someone else with them. They did a documentary on Netflix called The Show Must Go On and I realized Freddie is gone and there's a whole generation that never got to hear Queen live. Adam is no Freddie Mercury and he makes a point of saying he's a fan of Freddie's and is not trying to fill his shoes or be a sound alike. His version of Who Wants to Live Forever at the Isle of Wight is incredible. Bryan May says he's a gift from God. I find I like his music from his solo career. His version of Believe when he sang it to Cher at The Kennedy Center Awards blew me away. I know you have a lot of requests to do but when you get a chance check out Adam Lambert. If you're like a majority of the reactors that have found him you will find you will be watching him a lot. I really saw the Believe video a few months back and started watching and listening to him. I think it's great that another generation gets to enjoy Queen again!

Try not to feel sad about the song because it was originally written for the film Highlander which was about a man who is immortal. In otherwords he cannot die hence the title of the song who wants to live forever because it's played in a part of the film when the guy's wife is getting old and ageing but he isn't. The character is a man from the Scottish Highlands called Connor MacLeod who is born centuries ago but cannot die. The only way that he can be killed is by cutting his head off with a sword. There are only something like a dozen of his kind in the world and they must fight against each other until they are down to the final two. But each time he cuts another immortal's head off he gains all of their power, knowledge and experience this is called the Quickening. The movie stars Christopher Lambert and Sean Connery.

I always have tears listening to this Song and watching Freddie. He was one of the greatest Entertainers ever. I always cry at this live version because I had it played at my husbands funeral, Pete adored Queen and Freddie in particular and he loved the movie Highlander which Brian wrote the song for.

Love this performance. Freddie was definitely feeling it. Although this song wasn’t written by Freddie or about Freddie at all, it’s ironic that Freddie conveyed in more than one interview that he never saw himself growing old. One in particular where he was asked if he’d still be performing when he was 60 or 70 and Freddie’s replied “oh I’ll be dead long before then”

He knew something was wrong on this tour but he didn't know he was sick. And like someone else said, it's written for a movie with that theme. But one of course one thinks about it when listening to it now. I adore this performence. So powerful. And this whole concert is amazing btw. He was very happy afterwards ❤❤❤

I love Queen, Love Freddie, this band is timeless. Omg it gives me chills he's beautiful and so is his voice so flawless. What a band I have no words, it does make cry every time I hear it. This song came out in 1985, two years before he was tested. It was written for the movie highlander, which was about immortal people. This song was about the lead character mourning for his mortal friends. However, I can easily see how one can apply it to Freddie's own story.

I love just how well choreographed the music is. Freddie obviously sings it so well and so clearly but Brian and Roger play their parts so well too. Not entirely sure if John was involved in this track.

This song was written by Brian to the movie Highlander. Freddie knew it was something wrong, this was in -86. In -85 he took his first blood-test, so he knew it was something wrong with his blood. But even the doctor now exsaktly what it was. This was obviously for The Highlander, however I think at this point when Freddie sang this song he knew. Mary commented that she could see that he knew during the Wembley 1986 concerts, this concert was after Wembley. His official diagnoses was only a year later, but he had done a few Aids tests before he was officially diagnosed. He likely did the Aids test because he knew he might have Aids.

Brian wrote this song, not Freddie. It is 100% about the movie Highlander (as are a lot of songs on the A Kind of Magic album). Freddie was not diagnosed until a year or longer after this was recorded.

No, he did not " know " when he first recorded the song...nor at the time he sang it at this Budapest, Hungary concert which was a concert in the then " Soviet Union "...behind the " Iron Curtain". Queen were one of the first Western groups to play a concert behind the very isolated, strict, guarded Soviet "Wall". It took a lot for them to make that happen for those fans who were starving for freedom of cultures and life. The song was written by Brian May for the movie soundtrack for the film Highlander. After May watched the death scene of the main characters wife, he wrote the song in 20 minutes, in the back seat of his car. If you listen to the STUDIO version, you hear May sing the first few lines...a middle line during the song....and that last line, " Who waits forever anyway...? " In the music video version he does not sing the last line.....the song chorus just continues with a boys choir mixed with Queen's vocals harmonies ( Freddie, Brian, Roger....not John who almost never sang ). So anyway...Brian wrote it and Freddie sang it in studio and live in several concerts NOT yet knowing he had HIV/AIDS. The song was just written by Brian May in reaction to emotions he felt seeing that Highlander death scene. 😊

The song was written for a movie called Highlander and used in a death scene.

I am not entirely sure he had received his diagnosis at this point because Who Wants to live Forever was part of their A Kind of Magic album which was directly after The Works. Plus many of the songs on the Kind of Magic album were written and produced primarily for the film Highlander which starred Christopher Lambert and Sir Sean Connery. So it would have been around 84, 85 or 86 sort of time.

Brian wrote the song and shared the vocals with Freddy in one of the videos of this song.

One of my favorites from Queen. This song was released as part of the Highlander soundtrack in 1986. It's possible Freddie was sick while writing this song but coincidentally the theme of it has to do with the films protagonist Connor MacCleod who is immortal and his wife is not.

Let me first say that I think Freddie was one of the greatest vocalists ever. But I actually prefer the original studio version of this song. It is also the same version that appears in the "official video". In that version, guitarist Brian May sings the initial verse. He vocals are softer and in my opinion, the contrast in vocals between Brian's vocals and Freddie's vocals (which come in later in the song), make this ballad more powerful. Please check it out.

I think this was from the end of there last ever tour. Most bands are best at the end of there tour for obvious reasons. It wasn't long after this that he found out he was more likely to die if he toured again. So he started making excuses for not touring which puzzled the rest of the band.

Ohhh this was in -86, this was the last preformans Freddie did. And he now he was HIV possitive. He get the virus between -79-82. In -87 he had Full blowing AIDS, after this consert he had to lay down, he nearly could talk, you heare at his voice how tired he is. I now all this becouse I have heard on all interview with all people who nows Freddie, Phoebe, Jim, Mary, Peter, Joe etc, and ofcourse his bandmade. They have told all this. I only tell what I have heard, and read 😢😢😢

As always, Queen is brilliant. But I prefer this song @ Wembley, July 11, 1986, as Freddie was in better shape vocally. I know the band & Freddie were exhausted with this 1986 tour, the live tour of this incredible group. Brian as always writes realistic and exceptional songs. And Freddie, the master frontman, puts his whole body & soul into each & all songs. RIP Freddie.

He knew it since 1985( I won't say earlier) but he didn't want to be tested because the results were not reliable, so he didn't want to know... But in the end, he found the courage and 2 years later in 1987 he did the test because some of his friends & ex lovers started to die...
