I saw Queensryche a few months later in a small club in Baltimore MD . Jan 85 . Had a barstool at a balcony overlooking the stage on the side . Degarmo might have been 10 feet away . I couldn't have dreamed of better seating . Kinda felt the band was all mine that night. $5.00 at the door and maybe 150 people in all . My buddy told me they were playing Hammerjack's tonight so I went.. During Take Hold of The Flame . Geoff climbed up and took my hand and we both watched Degarmo together during his lead . I can still remember the look on Chris's face . He looked concerned " Dude , Please don't push our singer off " He never missed a note and when Geoff got back on the stage and the song ended . Chris looked at me and smiled and I could read his lips . Thanks ! . The absolute amazing thing that night was how tight they were . I couldn't believe it was real. It was magical . My buddy that told me Queensryche was playing that night. Was also at the time my bandmate / bass player . I left the band but my buddy Keith would go on to play on that same stage years later . He went on to become the bass player for Iced Earth in 96 and is on Iced's Earth's Dark Saga album . He passed away in 2022 and his brother posted a memorial for him on RU-vid . In one of his pics . It was my buddy Keith and Geoff together . Thought I'd share .

@@everydaykenya8400believe it or not, these guys were almost nobody’s when this came out. (of course not to us who found them when the EP hit the stores) Hard to believe these giants were just an opening act at this time.🤘🏻
My 1st concert was Iron Maiden on their World Slavery Tour Jan 1985 at Radio City Music Hall in NYC. I was 16 yrs old. Twisted Sister was opening for Maiden on this tour, but not in NYC - maybe because it was their home turf? Anyway I remember being disappointed because they were big at the time with "We're not gonna take it", etc. When I heard "Queensryche" was opening instead I was like "Who's that?". Little did I know what was in store - I was totally blown away by their performance!! What a great show with 2 of metal's greatest vocalists. Ran out and bought the "Queensryche" EP and "Warning" album the next day at "Slipped Disc" on Rockaway Ave in Valley Stream. Have been a fan ever since. This video of them in Tokyo late 1984 brings me right back to that show so many years ago when I was introduced to the greatness of Queensryche!!
I saw the same show in Toronto, November 30, 1985. I had just turned 15, 4 days prior. Twisted Sister opened. I would have preferred Queensryche to be honest. Was my first real concert as well. What memories.
Wow! I have almost the exact same story! I saw them the 1st night of their 8 night run at Radio City in 85. My 1st concert. I was 14 at the time. I did know Queensryche but hearing Geoff hit those notes live was insane. I have seen way over 100 great concerts of multiple genres and the Live after Death ranks high on the list. Amazing experience. Glad to share with you guys!
I love watching all the reaction videos to Take Hold Of The Flame. Jaws drop, smiles, shock...this guy was a monster. Im glad i had the opportunity to witness such greatness. Amazing.
Three here. I’ll never forget hanging out at my friend Juniors house and he grabs an EP and sticks it on the turntable and says “dude, this just came out. You gotta hear it!”🤯🤘🏻
They were opening for AC/DC when Rage first came out, and I managed to lie my way into backstage passes. Sitting with Scott having some JD after they came offstage, me and my best friend actually talked to him about that! Best night EVER!🤘🏻
FUCK YEAH!! The GREATEST band of all time..no band can deliver MUSIC 🎵 like this..🤘🎶🎵Chris De Garmo is on 🔥 Scott Rockenfield keeping vicious timing with his 🥁 kit, Eddie Jackson on the bass playing the dark rhythm's Michael Wilton switching off on harmony with his 🎸 and then there is Geoff Tate singing his ass of..
An amazing vocalist, to the point of not just being so good but put in awe of how someone can sing fluctuations like this. Rob Halford is another amazing singer that's incomparable.
Now I see where michael kiske ( HelloWeeN ) inspiration came from

Geoff Tate is still better than younger singing colleague MICHAEL KISKE even today! I have been to three Helloween concerts after KISKE return to Helloween, and it was SHIT Really scary! If Hansen and Andi Deris weren't there, it would be like a Karaoke Show! His voice is very weak today!A month ago I was at the GEOFF Tate concert in Budapest and it was an amazing show for the OPERATION MINDCRIME album! At the age of 64, he sang his compositions from his youth much better than his younger singing colleague KISKE in Helloween!
This performance is so tight and perfect that it's hard to believe it's even live and not prerecorded and acted like in the music videos. Queensryche is one of those few bands that are as or better technically precise live then in the studio. Iron Maiden and Judas Priest are very similar in this regard. What a show that would have been to see those 3 similar bands share a stage. Long live the Progressive Metal God's 🤘🏼❤️
U couldn't touch back in 84 no way 🤘🤘🤘im so blessed to have seen this tour 84-85& Geoff hitting those notes wow 😳🎤 hitting that high E5 with no problem 💯
Nothing finer! I saw them open for AC/DC when “Rage” first came out, and actually lied my way into backstage passes! Hung out with them having drinks for about an hour or so, and then watched the last half of the AC/DC show from the side of the stage. Best night EVER!🤘🏻🤯
Queensryche the best progressive metal band of all time. When I heard them for the first time I was 13 or 14. How often did I come home from parties at night in the following years to listen to these CDs (Warning, RageForOrder, OperationMindcrime, Empire) before going to sleep. The dream lives forever. A reunion with Geoff Tate and Chris DeGarmo in addition to today's line-up. SilentLucidity or TakeHoldOfTheFlame are still the highlights at today's concerts.
Tate and the rest of the band absolutely hate each other, so I don’t think that will ever happen. Band ego dramas have been the death of more bands than heroin. Man, but when they were together there was no better band on earth!🤘🏻
I had this on VHS when it came out but after a few years lent it to someone & just never got it back. Thanks for posting, I haven't seen this in probably 35 years.
I got into Queensryche on the Rage for Order album. I didn't really like the Warning album or the Queen of the Reich album except for Take Hold of the Flame but now? Wow! I'm loving this!!!! I'm so sorry that I missed it then.
Fantastic!! I spent years trying to get this on VHS to no avail. You're doing the lord's work good sir! Endless gratitude. This is so much goddamned fun. Miss them.
I remember seeing them open for Kiss in ‘84 during the “Animalize” tour. Totally smoked Kiss. Being 11, I didn’t realize that they would become huge after that tour. Saw ‘em again in ‘86 opening for Ozzy, and I knew then they were something different and definitely special.
Everyone has heir story of first hearing QR.- Well here's mine...I was doing a stint in Rykers a guy named Tropicana Rick Ho supposedly was a bartender at Tropicanas in Queens became my cell roomie. He was always playing Queensryche but wore a Ramones T Shirt. Go figure.
What has to be understood is, at this time this was nothing more than a relatively unknown opening act. (Absolutely known by us that “discovered” them from day one) IMO, (which is the only one that matters to me😁) This was absolutely one of the finest bands to ever pick up instruments! Just look at it, these guys were giants way before they ever got famous.🤘🏻
QUEENSRYCHE BEST STUDIO ALBUMS, 1 THE WARNING ,1984 2 RAGE FOR ORDER 1986 3 OPERATION MIND CRIME 1988. I WAS THE FIRST KID IN SCHOOL WHO KNEW WHERE THEY WERE GOING, BECAUSE OF THE 1984 LIVE IN JAPAN, WHICH I SAW ON M TV, IN VIDEOS SO I BOUGHT A VHS COPY OF THE CONCERT, I WAS 14, WHICH GAVE ME A HEADS UP ON THE OTHER KIDS, THE VHS TAPE ALSO HAD THE 1982 QUEENSRYCHE E. P. , WITH IT, AND You, RAZOR BEING A LOVER OF JAPANESE CULTURE, SHOULD APPLAUD GEOFF TATE FOR ATTEMPTING TO SPEAK IN THE VIDEO, I HAD THAT Japanese phrase memorized, EVEN THOUGH I HAD NO IDEA WHAT IT WAS SUPPOSED TO MEAN.
Origins Tour is right now in 2024. Playing the EP and Warning in entirety!! Go see it even if 2/5 are OG members. It’s still awesome. Grew up on these guys in Bellevue WA and will always love them. Epic concert right here.
Man rhey were there tight and in the zone no problem 💯! U remember seeing them with kiss and they made kiss look like a regular band 💯 ryche just blew them off the stage no problem 💯 love live ryche & roll🤘🤘🤘🤘
It was included as a bonus track on the re issue of The Warning. It was written around that time but wasn't actually recorded until the sessions for 1986 Rage for Order
