People who hate on this album or say real fans left after Empire missed out on a real prog masterpiece. This album was Queensryche at their ultimate pinnacle. It never got better than this and it was the album that made me into a fan of not only Queensryche, but prog music in general.
Absolutely. I have been a huge fan since the late 80s..and I couldn't agree with this statement more..but with that being said, it is their last great album :-/ Its not for everyone (I guess) but it is a masterpiece nonetheless.
Michele Dyer Yes I agree, was the last great album. In my opinion when DeGarmo left the band is when they went severally down hill, but if you look at how many songs on each album had Chris as a co-writer on it, it only makes sense why they started failing after he left.
Grant Sturdivant DeGarmo/Tate was the most common teamup. Occasionally Tate/Wilton or even DeGarmo/Tate/Wilton. Chris and Geoff clearly had a writing chemistry together that died when Chris left. My general feeling is that Chris was the middle-man in terms of ideas and tastes. Once he left, it was Geoff and the other guys as separate units. The group slowly bled out over time and this split was bound to happen. (Yes, I'm aware Geoff was fired from the group but a split was coming regardless I feel. Geoff should've left sooner but felt too attached to the band/brand.) The split was for the best. That being said, before one of them dies I would love to see the guys all reunite with eachother and Chris for one final album and tour before truly calling it the end. It would bring some much needed closure. Would be terrible for them to leave with HitNF or even Tribe. Both were great albums but let's be honest. They could achieve better as a final farewell.
Michele Dyer It was their last truly fantastic album, that's for sure. Each album was incredible leading up to their best, Promised Land. However, I DO believe they continued to release good albums. Great, for anyone else but just good for Queensryche. HitNF was a very good album and had some great tracks on it, Q2K slightly less so but did still have one or two standouts, Tribe marked a return to form and then Mindcrime II was largely underrated I feel. Granted, the closing track was just overly cheesy and nowhere near the epic closer Eyes of a Stranger was but Geoff's voice was on fire and almost every other track was incredible (especially Signs Say Go through Fear City Slide. Re-Arrange you saw Geoff touch upon that magic fifth octave again), Take Cover is a covers album so we'll give it a free pass (their worst album otherwise), American Soldier was arguably their best since PL then DtC was a clear sign the band was over. Something went seriously wrong there. It had all the guys there, more joint writing credits from the entire band than any album since at least Tribe but it was just not Queensryche sounding. Still an Ok album for them and a good album for anyone else. I don't count any album from there on because in my heart and mind there is no Queensryche without Geoff and Chris and Geoff alone does not make Queensryche either. The guys with Todd have made a great band but it's not Queensryche and will never be to me (I know many others feel different and I appreciate that). I have the PL tri-ryche tattooed on my left arm. It serves as a reminder of the band who truly opened my mind to absolutely GREAT music. As an extra note. Todd is a great vocalist, but he could never replace either Midnight or Geoff. Think Geoff's lost it? Just look for recent(ish) performances of Someone Else. Or hell, within the past few years an unplugged rendition of I WIll Remember evidencing that his voice has not really changed since Promised Land. Empire era at it's best.
Slimebeast Pug , Why would you say such a thing. Didn't your parents ever tell you, if you can't say anything nice, then don't say anything at all? Obviously, you wouldn't know great music if it hit you over the head. You're probably a Bobby Brown fan. Why are you even on here if you hate Queensryche?
I never realized the stage production they used on this tour. Really amazing. I wish I could've seen this live. Promised Land is Queensryche's magnum opus. Terribly underrated album.
Queensryche was so underrated. A buddy and I saw them for the first time back in 84' I believe when they opened up for Kiss. They were unbelievable and I think we walked out after Kiss had played 3 or 4 songs. When they toured for Operation:Mindcrime saw them a couple of more times. The show in Las Vegas at the Thomas & Mack is still the best live show I've ever seen. Man, we STILL talk about that show today.

Would be great. Unlikely. The time to have done it was in conjunction with (one of) the greatist hits releases. Probably the second. 30 years this year. 🤷🏼♂️
The connecting storyline of the character of Nicky told through the music, theatrical staging and Geoff's fantastic, deep, from-his-guts, nothing-held-back performance both on stage and in the videos on screen, is so tragic and heartbreaking. I can certainly identify with many of the sentiments expressed here and I don't think anyone has done it better before or since. A masterpiece.
Here's a tracklisting for the concert. Put together by theY95problem. Thought I'd re-write it in an higher comment as it was getting lost near the bottom 0:00 9.28 AM 1:43 I Am I 5:38 Damaged 9:40 Bridge 13:40 Screaming In Digital 16:17 NM 156 18:55 My Global Mind 23:33 Neue Regel 26:20 I Remember Now 27:30 Anarchy-X 28:58 Revolution Calling 34:05 Operation: Mindcrime 38:10 Spreading The Disease 43:13 The Mission 50:07 I Don't Believe In Love 54:28 Waiting For 22 55:43 My Empty Room 58:33 Real World 1:01:50 Eyes Of A Stranger 1:09:50 Empire 1:14:55 Jet City Woman 1:20:14 Promised Land Theatrics 1:25:06 Promised Land 1:32:20 Disconnected Theatrics 1:34:10 Disconnected 1:38:08 Lady Jane 1:43:56 Out Of Mind 1:48:34 One More Time 1:53:58 Silent Lucidity 1:59:39 Take Hold Of The Flame 2:05:29 Someone Else?
I saw this show in Omaha on May 3, 1995. It's in my top 5 concerts of all time, and I've been to over 60 concerts in my life. Just a fantastic show from beginning to end. All of their music just gelled into this perfect concert. The solo with about a minute left of Someone Else is stunning! I wish they would have put that version on the album.
I think so much of this album, I tattooed the Tri-Rÿche totem pole on my leg. I was obsessed with this album after it came out. Damaged is my favorite Rÿche song. I went to all the shows in California and Nevada on the tour, following them around. I also won a contest to go onstage at the Forum in LA during the Promised Land song. And, I met them at the after show too. Can't believe it's been almost 30 years since those days...
The Empire are destroyed after Revolution and now we see the promised Land.... and after all we can see the damage..... It's a real critic of the american society, a mirror, and Queensryche are the mirror. But for me a real artist is one who create a new standard and can stand higher to inspired a new generation POSITIVELY to change the world. Anybody listening?
I remember when they opened for Metallica, took my nephew to that show, he wanted to see Metallica. I told him QR would be better and they were, even though you could barely hear them. I never could get into them much after DeGarmo left.
I saw that tour I believe it was 1987-88. in Albuquerque NM. ryche totally musically blew Metallica off the stage. on reason they were relaxed had a 52min set and it was operation mindcrime tour. just before they really took off with Empire. even of all the idiots Alex Rose and I Quote said Queensryche was and is the best album out at that time. the energy it created killer. Speak and Breaking the Silence I sing out loud every time I hear them. people freak out because I know every word to every song thav've written up to American Soldier. witch they should use for the presidential hacks we have
Saw this at the Gorge in Washington state. Outdoor amphitheater on a perfectly beautiful summer night. it was f*cking spiritual. One of the top 5 shows I've ever seen.
My favorite QR tour...saw it in Camden NJ back in '95. Love the album, and along with Rage and OMC, these three records are absolute peak 'Ryche. Like many others here, I wish they had put this out on a DVD at some point.
It's really too bad what happened to the band. They really had a great run, but after Chris left the band the rest of the members should've just called it quits completely. Chris was the guru and is irreplaceable, even to this day. He was the real musical genius of the group. Without him, Geoff's songs wouldn't have sounded as good as they did.
I saw this show in Stockholm and I must say it still is the best live show i’ve ever seen. The whole production and the deep approach it all had. Yes... Geoff Tate had to struggle with the high notes but the his performance was just mindblowing and the rest of the band was at their absolute peak. I like the album really much and still listen to it now and then. Thanx for the upload.
Perfect album, incredible lyrics, beginning to end. Their best work,..their last best work when Chris Degarmo ran the show. Than everything fell apart and went to shit....I was there..One of the best shows ive ever attended and this album acted as my shrink.
I agree but, for me, it was always clear that DeGarmo never ran the show. Geoff Tate, with its dozens of spectacular voices, has always been the natural leader, the best front man and the most fantastic voice of his generation. Degarmo and Wilton, both wonderful and flawless, were the other two pieces of gear that made the Queensryche be so perfect. I was in every concert I could, to see the Ryche but especially to see Tate hypnotize the audience..GT always was fabulous, extremely sexy, gorgeous and incredibly charismatic, performatic. My eternal gratitude and love for him and for this band that just gave me joys and incredible lyrics that are still super current. Kisses Chrysteena
Val Faria you're absolutely right, Geoff was and is the heart of Queensryche and without Tate's amazing voice and theatrical performance Queensryche wouldn't reach the peak they did back than IMHO.

I went concert at Johns Beach, Long Island, N.Y. 1995. This album is heavier dark theme than “Operation : Mindcrime”. But beautifully melancholic album.
Video quality aside (although appreciated), I could watch this all day... Agree with so many others on PLand as it was their greatest compilation (queue the roasting haha). Empire prepared them for this! This band was on fire as everyone of them played their parts so perfectly live, which speaks to their caliber as musicians. Scott's drumming is so perfectly on point to the recordings. Geoff's stage show is learned through experience alone and man, he nails it. Eddie's Bass playing is so deep and tasty, the backbone and the glue that brings it all together. Enough can never be said about Chris DeGarmo's writing and how he and Michael work so well together. They remind me of the younger days of KK Downing and Glenn Tipton (guitar players that actually listen to each other haha). They're like a unified force where 2 become 1.... This band is a Masterclass in writing and performance and not that they may care, but should all receive honorary degrees!
Promised Land is an Epic album. "Out Of Mind" is one of Queensrÿche's greatest songs. Ever. I wish I saw them on this tour. It wasn't until Q2K when I had that pleasure.
So F*cking good!!, I love this album so much! Amazing, mature, and musically pure. Great job on the audio for this concert. The video is rough...but the audio is awesome. Thank you!
I was at this concert the night before in New Jersey at the PNC Arts Center- July 24th 1995, What a great show, fun times before the show hanging out as well.
This show was certainly their pinnacle from a sound a production perspective and was my 1st QR show ever. It was like watching metal broadway show with Geoff and his showmanship. Too bad it all went downhill from here and Tate lost his voice (he was never good at taking care of it) and became a douchebag. Glad to see the band put out new music that actually sounds great and brings back the signature QR sound and feel. Todd can sing the old songs really well while adding his own style and re-energizing the band. I am happy that Tate can now go solo and make the type of music that he enjoys as he certainly didn't care for metal/hard rock anymore. So see, everyone wins!
Agree about the sound......this wasn't professionally done.Saw them in San Antonio, and regretfully, I do not remember much......still wear the T-shirt! Great album, too! Promised Land is the story of my life: Got my MS in biology and working at Goodwill! Go to school and do what you want (for a job). What happened to me? Getting out of bed is a chore for me now - "...life's like dragging feet through sand, and never reaching my Promised Land."
I was on this tour(lighting guy) brings back the memorys that survives to this day all of them awesome such decadence QR is great to work for good crew R. I.P Franklyn Fielder - thanks. H(texasboy)
For all the people calling the new Queensryche sad or saying how sad it is to see the deterioration of the band, I urge you to pick up Condition Human. I find it to be extremely creative and innovative! Those are just my thoughts, take them as you wish.....
I absolutely agree... while I wish the original line-up still could work together and tour, "the new Queensryche" is so much better than what the band had become just before the big split-up a couple of years ago!
dethwiz , Yes, we all wish we had our old Queensryche back. Only in fairly land. Todd is doing an amazing job. These are not easy songs to sing. Not many vocalist have the 4 octave vocal range of Geoff Tate. I'm just grateful that we still have Queensryche.
Really Condition Human has none of the soul or passion filled musicality of QR at its peak. They really sound just like any other pro-am prog metal band that exists these days. All the emotive innovation is gone.
@@wordragon By definition, NOTHING is ever as good as it was at its peak. But that doesn't mean it's not good or worthy. If you don't like it, that's cool. I'd say most fans do enjoy it for what it is. Although, for some reason QR are near the top of the heap of having former fans that are now haters. I don't get it, but that's ok.
My first of several tour s with a band that i was really into is rare and to tour with them 10 yrs later again rare as it gets and the guys remembered my name 10 yts later tou know how many meet & greet they done how many hand shake in that time QR Geoffs voice last tour and album with chris g typyOnegitive opened that tour R. I. P Pete Steel I still have pink eye “you bastards “ 2 nd best period of my life!. salute
Promised Land and Rage For Order are some of the most underrated albums in metal. much better than Empire in my opinion. and this is the most complete setlist for a QR concert. i just wish it contained Queen of the reich and Warning!
By this time, they were touring non-stop with this show being over 120 min. It took it's toll for sure. This after the Building Empires tour, Mindcrime, etc.
This is Awesome... Wilton's guitar solo alone at 05:43 or DeGarmo's solo at 11:11 are worth watching this entire rare live show! Can we get this in HD? :)
Saw this tour at the Kansas Coliseum. The band was great but the theatrics showed they had lost their way. Type O Negative was the support and a very interesting opener. Ticket sales were so poor they black curtained half the venue.
Saw this show in buffalo n.y. phenomenal sound great set list. After hear in the now frontier it kinda went downhill. Band I was in opened for them years later.
I think that the reason for this album not doing as well as it should have is because Grunge killed metal. Thank God that was a fad and didn't last long. This album came out shortly after my Son was born. I think I did buy it but never really listened to it. I just recently replaced all of my Queensryche CD'S and I love this CD! I also replaced a bunch of Fates Warning CD'S. This is truly a masterpiece. RYCHE N ROLL FOREVER!
You are absolutely right on your reason that this album pretty much tanked. Its a fantastic listen BUT music took a left turn right at the time it was released. Bittersweet that the bands that knocked them off were all from the same city as them.
This album has a relatively dark theme, and such a turn away from their previous albums. However, it is a MASTERPIECE. It's very different from Empire, yet so similar. This was truly their last masterpiece. Someone Else is so beautiful.
RickyTyger . . . WHERE did this video come from? I mean it looks very pro? Was it a "Simulcast" show on local TV? Its a shame they never put out a Live video for this tour :(. But so damn lucky to have seen it in LA :). My fave QR album. Be great to see an HD version one day,
