This tutorial worked perfectly for me, using a Mini-pc I had laying around. Much appreciated for this!

Super 3d! 😂 I did try something similar, but render the output on PC to stereo and save the file. For some reason any player I tried failed to play the atmos track. Either it was silenced or player chose next track. Maybe because it was usb to monitor to another usb extender and then DAC. I'll try again with direct audio jack on PC. I do envy your setup :) For me to try this setup would mean buying the expensive equipment and then also new apartment where to set it up :p

Thanks! It can be a faff multiplexing the Atmos track into the 3D version of the film that didn't get it, ensuring the audio is in sync. I have tried Dolby Atmos over headphones, it's really not worth paying for the feature. Yes audio output was weird even for me, hence me going over how to set it up and testing the speakers in the room properly. My AVR also has a weird "bug" where if you set the height speakers as Top Middle there is no sound from them in DTS:X, Top Front it works for Atmos & DTS:X Remember you can gradually expand the setup. Start with the AVR and two speakers and build it up from there, subwoofer was the last thing I added to the system. I have this 5.1.2 setup in a fairly small room in a semi-detached house. Okay it wasn't cheap cheap (like the Budgie) but I had set a budget. Sony DN 1080 AVR (used), Edifier T5 subwoofer (new £130) KEF sat. speakers (used). Whole setup inc. cable was less than what people are paying for the Sonos Arc soundbar new...I know I get a better experience than just the Arc. Even just having the Height speakers up high on the front wall works reasonably well to be honest.

@@Honosuseri I didn't know you could slowly upgrade atmos system. Tx! I'm still going to try out AirPods Max at some point - I've red some articles that they do have very good soundstage and Atmos sounds incredible on these - but it might be that they do sound the best with Apple TV only in regards of Atmos.

7 channel AVR's for Atmos/DTS:X are pretty affordable now, that will limit you to only 2 height speakers though. Stepping up to 9 or 11 channel AVR's, then it's a pretty big jump in price. These then allow atleast 4 height speakers so the sound can move around above you. It's a matter of preference but I enjoy 5.1.2 with sound around and above me rather than all 7 channels being used for speakers at ear level (I've tried both). All the best let me know what you think of the headphones!

@@Honosuseri Thanks, it'll take some time to get those headphones but I'll get back on it. This years budget for getting already one 500+ earphones is full :P One more question, you said that when video is top and bottom, then you'll get really good quality. Is it related to Virtual Desktop and how it works? You have your monitor and on that showing top and bottom takes up maximum amount of pixels? I don't think if playing in native Quest player eg Skybox it would not matter, right? Then you don't get the dolby ofcourse, but just trying to understand the logic.

@@HannesKirsman SBS (side by side) and Tab (Top and bottom) are two different ways of doing 3D. SBS the image is more squished together. TAB keeps the width of the image. I think I prefer TAB but I do have content in SBS. Although sometimes I have to change the aspect ratio to 16:9 to stretch the image for SBS.

HI @Honosuseri, thanks for this video. I don't have the quest, I want to buy it, the quest 3, this solution works perfectly?? Or you know if there is a method that can send only the audio on the amplifier for atmos track?? My idea is watching 4k blu-rays on 24fps, Thanks again.

I rip my Bluray discs as almost all modern PC's can't actually play the UHD discs anymore now sadly (you can read up about it and Intel SGX). If you want to use an AVR with dedicated speakers for surround sound or spatial sound (Atmos/DTS:X) then you will need a PC hooked up to the AVR by HDMI. The Quest 3 can connect to the PC with cheap software called Virtual Desktop and view the video file being played. I haven't tried it but in theory it's now possible to use specific USB capture cards with the Quest 3 headset. A HDMI splitter would mean the Bluray player could send the video signal to both the AVR and the capture card. I don't recommend trying it the cost of the capture card could just go to a cheap mini-pc

 @Honosuseri thanks for the replay, actually I'm watching my 4k blu-rays with my pc, madvr and projector, so it's not a problem. I already have a dolby atmos system, I want to know if via virtual desktop there are obvious compression problems as it is remote playback or is the solution effective enough. I saw the solution with usb capture cards but I understood that this solution only supports 1080p, not 4k. Thanks again :)

No obvious compression problems, Virtual Desktop does allow for a range of different bitrates and codecs including AV1 for the Quest 3. The Quest 2 & 3 don't have 4K displays in them so it's either 1080p content upscaled or 4K downscaled to fit the resolution. This is something I do to get more value out of the VR headset. I think the real bonus is when it comes to watching 3D movies. On a TV or projector the 3D glasses really cut out a lot of light as they are "shutters" to make the 3D effect, this isn't an issue with the VR headset.

@@Honosuseri Perfect!! Thank you very much. I know that the resolution of the quest 3 is not 4k. On Virtual Desktop I can change the resolution of the remote display or is set only the current resolution of the pc? I want to set the maximum resolution and if it is possible set 24fps. Last question, you advice this setup? See movies with VR headset? Thanks!

You can set Virtual Desktop to "Godlike" or Ultra settings for maximum resolution. I encode my movies anyway to save space storing them so I can live with a certain amount of compression, your opinion may differ to mine. I have to contend with "god rays" because of the fresnel lenses in the Quest 2, that can be far more distracting than the quality of the content. I've managed to minimise them reducing the amount of "blue light" from the display. Quest 3 uses pancake lenses, I've not tried them myself but apparently you can still get "reflections" sometimes on the lenses. Would I buy a VR headset just for watching movies on? No probably not BUT if you are buying one to play VR games etc. it's definitely worth getting your monies worth and watching films too. The virtual cinema screen can be much larger than a physical screen we could have at home. All the best with it, have fun!

23/24fps movies feel terrible in VR when there's too much movement. I tried watching a 60fps movie and the difference was day and night. Is it just me or is there a fix so I can tolerate watching 24fps movies in VR?
@Honosuseri

Not something I've looked into. Adding Motion Smoothing etc. would cause the "Soap opera effect" which I can't tolerate to watch
