thank you for addressing the price vs how much the item is actually worth. A MAJORITY of content creators just glance over the fact that said item costs an arm and a leg for the rest of us😂😂 JUST FOR A PIECE OF PLASTIC! While it costs the company a couple dollars to manufacture

@@gr1f1th okay, do you think the Elite strap only cost a few dollars to make? Rechargeable Lithium-ion batteries that are attached to your head needs to be the safest lithium ion batteries on the planet. That research is not cheap. That subsidizes the price of the actual item that will be for sale. All of that research has to be paid back or why design the product and release it? It has to be profitable for the company.

You nailed it, Meta don’t understand that they need a good user experience to generate word of mouth recommendations to generate more sales. Other than the improved lens my experience with the Quest 3 has been really bad and I’m still using my Quest 2 until the 3rd party head straps and facial interfaces are available. I can’t wear the Quest 3 with stock strap for an hour without having to take it off. The setup was frustrating, I selected QR code for wifi setup and it didn’t work, it still made me enter the wifi password manually. When I enabled the Airlink it made me confirm a code on the PC and by the time I ran up/down 2 flights of stairs it timed out and I had to do it again. I’ve been doing more swearing than game play. The light leak through the bottom of the headset is more than annoying. I threw away money buying the over priced accessories for the Quest 2, that later broke and died, so I’m not going to do it again. There’s no Quest 3 exclusive content yet so there’s no way I’d recommend to family or friends to buy this thing right now and if I do in the future I’ll have to explain to them the real price for a usable configuration. I fear this will be a market failure.

It's amazing how many solid accessories have hit the market in jist a couple of months. Pricing out all of the accessories I will most likely want on X-mas, including the Kiwi Elite Headstrap for $30, JSAUX power link cable for $25, and some prescription lens inserts for $50, which is about the same I paid for extra accessories for my Reverb G2 and Index. Just gotta shop around for deals. I'd never pay for the first party Meta stuff. Depending on how the stock interface feels I may grab a vented one, probably from VRCover or AMVR.

Thank you! I used to love and support Quest, and didn’t mind over-paying for accessories (& buying games I never played). But my elite battery strap broke quickly, it sounded like they were willing to refund it, but then rescinded the offer & would only send another defective elite strap (with no additional warranty). So now I don’t buy anything from them except the new model of the Quest, and exclusive games I really want. They don’t stand by their products and they don’t care about their customers. I wish I didn’t have to support them at all but the tech is still impressive. The user experience is also worse since they went to Meta. I spent about an hour just trying to get the quest 3 connected to my account. There was no option to connect the new model in the phone app, even though itvwas up-to-date. Just Q2 and Pro. I’m guessing they mostly want people to login through Facebook, probably forgot they had a Phone app to support 🤦🏻‍♂️

It’s funny that the hand straps are $55, but it’s essential, and they could have included it in the actual box. The elite strap is also essential because the base head strap is terrible. But $100 is crazy, and $180 for the battery version. I’m talking CAD. You get the 512mb model, hand straps, elite head battery strap and charging dock, you have now spent $1400 for all.

Hello Benjo! I was wondering about how to best evaluate the Q3's performance over the Q2... I tought about the game that, to my knowledge, struggled the most on Q2: GRID LEGENDS. I know you were not a fan... However, since your coverage, the game has been updated with graphics settings and.... MOTION CONTROLS!!!! I'd love to see you revisit this game on Q3 and see if it benefits from the new hardware and hear what you think of the new control scheme... Cheers!

What no "meta paid" content creator will do is: Find the settings in terms of resolution at a fixed refresh rate where Grid Legends runs without framedrops on the same track on both Q2 and Q3. Basically use this as a benchmark to compare performance. This is what a Quest2/3 owner said to me. After this comment he obviously felt I was attacking Meta and changed his numbers and refused to talk to me. >> 125% res scale and 72hz, better than Quest 2 at 110% res and 60hz Do the math, that suggests in REAL games Quest 3 is only 36% faster than Quest 2. Meta has some explaining to do !!! 183% res scale @ 72hz would be possible if Quest 3 was really twice the performance of Quest 2.
@JeanRousseau-u7s
@JeanRousseau-u7s Год назад
@@decadent. Not exactly, since the base resolution of both HMDs is different and the res scale percentage is based on that res. Furthermore, the Q3 cpu is only about 33% faster on average. Only the gpu is twice as powerful, so it depends on whether the game is somehow cpu limited... I do miss technically detailed reviews for the Quest platform in general...
@decadent.
@decadent. Год назад
@@JeanRousseau-u7s As far as I can tell the 33% CPU improvement is relative to the original clocks of the Q2. That would mean the CPU performance of Q3 is almost the same as the current Q2. You are correct about the res being relative to different base resolutions. Assuming Q3 is 30% higher that would make the Quest 3 77% faster than Quest 2.

There is a known issue in the community I am experiencing with the elite battery strap for quest 3 that we are speculating is a software/firmware issue that can be patched with an update hopefully but what is happening is the headset does not recognize the battery strap is plugged in and will not take a charge as a result, at least you cant tell it is. I was able to unplug mine from the headset and charge the headset and battery strap separately and then plugged it back in, still wasnt recognized after powering off several times, however doing an actual restart of the headset was a success and everything is charging as normal and it is recognized by the headset again. Great video. It's crazy that in the UK, the Quest Pro retails at £750 on Amazon, and comes with 256GB of storage, a proper, rigid headstrap and the charging dock. Buying the extra storage, headstrap and charging dock for Quest 3 takes the price to almost £900! I am liking Quest 3, but although the MR and standalone are better than Quest Pro, I'm still finding myself much preferring the Pro. It is still better for PCVR, with its QLED displays and local dimming and it's great for standalone exercise as it comes with an open interfaceless design and its forehead and rear pads are wipeable faux leather. Quest 3 MR is much better as its standalone capabilities, but neither is really realised in any meaningful way yet and after a few days of exploring what Quest 3 can do I'm back to just using the Pro for PCVR and VR fitness, which is all I really use VR for. I think I'm going to return Quest 3 for now, but will probably buy it back again in a few months if there are worthwhile improvements to the standalone and MR experiences. I don't want to hang on to it just in case either Meta announce a Pro version of the device, which I'd much rather have, or Valve or Pico materialise something of substance. In the meantime I'm still super happy with the Quest Pro.

That and the battery life is laughable. 2 hours? I don't own a single piece of tech that doesn't get at least 3 1/2 to 4 hours of battery (including Quest Pro) So $580 for the headset, $130 for the strap with battery... You're getting up to Quest Pro prices and still only have essentially better passthrough (not THAT much better) and better GPU. You can still play and will be able to play allllll the same games, with better tracking, audio comfort etc on the Pro vs the 3. For the Q3, Elite battery strap, Docking station you're spending $820 ish bucks.... Quest Pro gives you so much more, better battery life better audio better comfort dock included better tracking for what? $150 ish more? Don't get me wrong Quest 3 looks great the graphics upgrade is nice. But guess what, I can boost the Quest Pro's visuals using 3rd party APK's like Quest Games Optimizer. I may get slightly lower FPS but I can get similar results.

If you dont know, i can tell you exactly why it is. So i have been a shop manager for years. Things, have changed. So basically you dont earn anything on the main product. Due the pricing of competition. So this is the only way they will earn anything. Both Microsoft and Apple, sell a product to break even, or a total loss now days. So the stores, who has the products, needs to sell accessories to earn money. So accessories, can cost 3 dollars to make, but sells for 35 dollar in the shop. I was sitting on the "cost" price for most of the products up in time. Why you think they want you to buy all the stuff when you buy a tablet, phone or computer? Or else its a loss on the sale. We where selling Ipads that was 100 dollar loss to the shop for each Ipad sold. So it was important for the shop to earn back money on accessories. The Meta quest, has stuff in there that costs more then the current price tag. Just look at phones with same specs. Then it might spark light bulb for you. Then all the sensors, cameras, lenses etc. I belive the cost of the Quest 3 is closer to a 800-1000 dollar to make. They have cut down of a few things, to make it more affordable. Like the straps. Why you think we have elite straps with battery etc? If they did go out to make the best product they can.. They would never sell with those shitty straps that came with the headset. Also they know that its a need for it. Some games that i played, was only playable for a bit over 1 hour. That is an issue. They made an issue to sell a product to earn back the money they lost. Also its more easy to buy cheaper headset. Then notice something you need, like battery and comfort. Its easy to just add a 170 dollar later on. Then you forget what the total price is in the end of the total experience of the product. Then you spent 170 dollar more there.. then you need games... 3-4 games 20 dollar each.. it adds up in the end. Then they have earned money on the Quest 3 in the end. maby 5-10% more then the cost of producing. The bigger problem is when it get to Europe. We need to pay much more for everything. Headset was over 300 dollar more, the games are 4 dollar more. The overpriced accessories 180 dollar for elite strap with battery, 170dollar for the docking.. 100 dollar for the case, so you can carry it around. So we pay 500-600 dollar more then in the states in total of that package Europe starts to react negative to the prices and the total cost. If I want to buy a GTX 4090. I pay 500 dollar more, then the people in the USA. Then it starts to get really expensive and an issue

I agree with your thoughts and would even price most things a bit cheaper to be honest. While it is likely they lose money for every headset sold (like the Quest 2) and they have to make some of it back, the price for 1st party accessories is just abusive for what they offer and it's interesting they don't even provide a discount for getting the headset with an accesory.

No, they are not losing money on this one at all. After doing a teardown the full value of the headset in parts is about $270.86. I reviewed their costs with labor and shipping. They are gaining about $200 with each headset, more with the 500GB model. Now if everyone starts returning them, then yes, they will lose a ton of money! The accessories are low quality, uncomfortable, and overpriced.

I always figured it was one of those "we'll sell you the razor handle cheap, so we can sell you the blades for a lot" type of scenario. I can excuse the crappy head strap on the Q2: it was a $300 wireless miracle do it all headset that they were already selling at a loss. They had to save money somewhere. So they wanted to make money back on the accessories. Not only was the original elite strap expensive, it was also built wrong. The first couple of production runs were made using the wrong polymer and just about all of them broke during normal use, so they can't argue that OEM accessories are better quality. If they are going to charge movie theater food prices for their accessories then I'm going to just keep buying third party accessories that are priced fairly and are just as good in terms of quality.

They do it because it makes sense from a business standpoint they know 3rd parties will flood the market with cheap prices soon and there is always people who are willing to pay extra just for the official brand name. But business standpoint and consumer standpoint usually don't align from our perspective elite strap should be what quest 3 already comes in the box with considering its 200 more than quest 2.

Never having owned a quest, I struggle to understand how people defend this type of hardware. Sure quality is better for the optics, but they can't even make it comfortable? I get accessories are the norm now, like a better or bigger battery. Hell, I'd buy another set of psvr 2 controllers if they sold them separately even though I get roughly 8 hours on them; which most times is plenty. But that is a convenience option I want vs a comfort option. Many folks know of the quest since it's so mainstream but when friends and family ask if they should get it, I say sure. BUT.... you'll need many accessories to make it tolerable, which of course scares them away from getting it. Hey I didn't lose them a sale, they lost themselves a sale. But VR is the best it's ever been currently. I'm most excited for RE4 in VR

I took an electric gimbal and sawed off the end clips towards the face on my quest 2 kiwi design headstrap so I could slide it onto the quest 3. The strap I cut up is working fine with some simple packing tape but still had to stretch it a bit because the strap holder things are a tiny bit wider now. Working great though.

1:48 I agree for how good it is it still has alto od optional left... Like an easy one being free the hands! Like allow it so it can track as many hands as it can see and sperate them from the controllers... Also make it so it shows up to PCVR games as right now it does "work" as you can see the meta menu but for some reason even with OpenXR it won't just be a controller.

I just ordered my Q3 today (it'll be here tomorrow morning) and I immediately checked amazon for accessories after I ordered and, while there's not a TON of 3rd-party accessories yet, but there are quite a few. I've already printed out my Frankenquest 3 adapter pieces (estimate of 47 cents to print), though, so I can use my Valve DAS that's currently on my Q1. I do want to get some controller covers with knuckle straps but the really good ones are like $25 and I'm hoping they'll come down.

Great video, and I totally agree! I think the coloured headstraps should have been a hard plastic like elite or more like the Quest 1 headstrap which in my opinion is still the best default strap. I bet it cost them like £5-£10 to make those straps too 😅 £20 I agree is reasonable. That said, do you have any info on BoboVR V3? I asked them via X and haven't heard back from them. I think the Q3 should have shipped with the elite strap (no battery) as standard.

I made the mistake of buying the hand strap accessory for the Quest 3 controllers. They're OK-ish but the VRCover straps I have for the pro controllers are on a completely different comfort level at roughly half the price. Don't be like me... What's "worse" is that the pro controllers work 100% flawlessly with the Quest 3 (unlike the Quest 2 where they would disconnect every time the headset went to sleep) so I could have saved the money.

I just ordered the Quest 3 and received it yesterday, bought the Elite strap with battery with it, getting that in a couple of days, not setting up the Quest 3 yet until I get the Elite Strap with battery for it, thinking about buying the charging dock for the Quest 3, I would rather have something to charge the headset a lot quicker than using the standard charging cable which takes a lot longer to do, I won’t even bother with the default strap that the Quest 3 comes with, like what did with the Quest 2 also

I am talking from experience and my Quest 2 case will hold the Quest 3 with an elite battery strap and both the Quest 3 controllers the pro controllers the charger for the Quest 3 the charger for the pro controllers with its footlong USBC to c cable and a pair of the sound core headphones for Quest 2 and that all fills it right to the brim The only thing I'm a little uncomfortable with is how on the Quest 3 The battery strap doesn't collapse down as much as the quest twos so it's a little finicky getting it in there you can also run into the zipper hitting the charging Cable of the elite battery strap when it's plugged into the headset and in the case but even without that it does still fit

@mica4977
@mica4977 Год назад
@keeschinees6734 It is intentional but not for malicious reasons. Q3 teardowns showcase the battery being the biggest component within the headset. Considering there are now two processors that are more powerful it makes sense the battery drains faster. If they made it even bigger to last longer then it would become more uncomfortable to wear & start reaching similar sizing to the Q2 yet be much heavier & that one is already a brick on the head.

I haven't put my Quest 3 on since the first 15 minutes I have it, because I find the Meta Jock Strap makes doing so impossibly uncomfortable within the first 15 minutes of wearing it. And no, I'm not exaggerating. I'd hoped that the smaller form factor of the 3, and the similarity of the strap to the Quest 1's, would make it wearable until I could get hold of whatever halo straps (or BoboVR adapters) might be coming out. But this headset is just as front-heavy as the Quest 2, BoboVR has apparently bollixed the works by not making a sensible number of Quest 3 head straps or Quest 2 to 3 adapters, and only one company is selling a Quest 3 halo strap on Amazon for the but it looks like something Dr. Frankenstein threw together, and I don't mean that in a cool way. So, I'm waiting instead for a third-party Elite strap that might be comfortable enough to wear for at least an hour at a time (elite straps never have been all that comfortable to me, but there you go). But until Monday (it's currently Saturday evening), I won't be putting the Quest 3 on my head at all. I honestly do not believe that the Quest 3 itself is overpriced for what you get, or for the updates that to the headset that Meta will do, if their history is anything to go by. But I haven't yet, through one Go and three Quests, made the mistake of fattening Facebook's/Meta's purse by buying their ludicrously overpriced acccessories, and I don't have any plans to do so. If anything, I'm seriously annoyed by the fact that their overpricing has given companies like AMVR, VRCover and Kiwi Designs carte blanche to charge ridiculous prices for their own Quest accessories--prices that are often not at all a match to the level of their accessories' quality, even as good as VRCover and Kiwi Designs can be (AMVR's are often well-made enough, and pretty well-designed, but the quality of their materials almost always scream, "Cheap!"). Thanks for the chat Beardo; it was cool to see Meta's accessories in one place.

Appreciate you speaking up about the overpriced accessories. And the strap discomfort issue in particular. I wear (fairly big) glasses. I’m waiting on the arrival of prescription lenses (another £75 with delivery), in the meantime I can only play Quest 3 for about 15-20 minutes before I get severe headache-like pain across my forehead. I wasn’t expecting the stock strap to be particularly good, but I didn’t expect it to put me off using the device altogether. Worth mentioning I’ve spent many long hours in my Quest 2 (both stock and later Bobo strap). Loving the Quest 3 in every other respect, but no way I’ll buy an Elite strap at the current price. If the new lenses alone don’t fix my headache issue, I’ll wait for an affordable third party strap option. Keep up the fantastic work 👍🏻

3:40 I'm the gffew they think it's confey and glad it came in the box but man is the support not there like no matter how you tighten it it's will still let the headset move when you move your head fast... However while I belive the majority of people will find it fine like the switch's confort which means if the headset is sold at cost or a loss leader it was a good choice for a load of reason like self space at retail and shipped and stuff like that... But they could has had the stock strap as the confort strap and raise the price $10-$20 of the heasdset to add a battery strap like the Bobo m3 which I got for $40 it would have been better and they should have thrown in the aticve grip straps to for $10 more and a less rough interface in a color of your choosing of $5 more... Which would make the headset $560 starting which would make it the most expensive console on sell but still a good value I think maybe even better... RThough the $500 starting price point is really good and I spent $700 on my quest 3 set up but then again I just bought the Meta active straps and 3rd partied the rest because the active straps are really nice though expinstive but tehrest Meta could not beat on price or funtion..

Honestly, all these things should be included and come with the quest itself it's bullshit they sell an incomplete product and sell you the rest. No big tech company sells a complete package anymore they nickel and dime the shit out of you it's like they sell you a cheeseburger but if you want lettuce cheese ketchup mustard or anything other than the burger and bun you gotta pay extra. So, in reality, the quest isn't $500 its more like $800

Waiting on BoboVR to get in stock. Had to buy a different face cover, as the whole unit is so uncomfortable. It gives me a headache if I tighten it as much as I have to, to prevent it from moving around. That and the 2 hour battery life is a complete joke. The headset is incredible, but $60 CAD just for hand straps (which I need as well) is just ridiculous. Hopefully BoboVr's m3 will be in stock this week. It sucks waiting.

Yeahhhh the elite strap is spendy and likely not worth it, but having it day 1 and not risking any of the alibaba etc resellers until they get tested, it was worth it. Yes a bit more expensive but nicely integrated into the controller and feeling like a real product, rather than a cheap band on solution like the VR Cover/Kiwi/whatever I have for the Q2 or Pico 4. Agreed, the Quest 3 accessories are a bit overpriced. The Quest 2 Elite Strap with Battery originally came with the OEM case for the same $130 they are charging for the Quest 3 version. I'm sure the Quest 3 version has a larger battery pack compared to the Quest 2 version, but it can't be that much more for them to drop the $50-$70 OEM case and yet still charge the same price.
