When we shared questions and comments last week we talked a little about the Mac M1. If you're using one now I'd love to see you do a Q and A on musical applications, compatibility with accessorie devices and ram requirements for different applications. For instance, I'm planning on downloading MainStage and the Logic instrument library since its a free download with MainStage and also compatible with Garage Band but not necessarily Logic since its 200 dollars and I'm not sure yet if I'll really need it. I'd almost rather spend that money on a great piano library and external storage. Question is, with that in mind I'm guessing I should probably opt for 16 gigs of ram but would I be ok with 256 gigs of storage or do I need to move it up to 512?. Or would multiple external ssds let me operate ok while just leaving the storage at 256? Looking at a mini. Anyway, I think a lot of folks might be interested in your feedback as a musician on lingering questions many of us have concerning the M1. P.S. I most likely will also be downloading free apps and plug-ins If I think they will be useful to me.
Great idea, Allen! I actually just traded my 2019 MacBook Pro i9, 32 Gb RAM, 1TB SSD.... for a... get this... 13 inch MacBook Pro M1 with 16 Gb of Ram and a 1Tb SSD. I highly recommend 16 Gb for any music related applications, and future proofing your Mac as much as possible, and get at least a 512 GB SSD...it will last longer, and you'll not regret having extra storage. The M1 Mini is a great choice, but still 16 GB Ram at least, and a 512 or higher SSD is would I would suggest.
@@benallen5967 Thanks Ben.That is kinda what I was guessing but to be clear are you talking 512 gb internal storage plus an external ssd? I was thinking maybe 1 tb external ssd. I figure it would probably be good to keep large sound libraries like the one from Logic that’s a free download with Mainstage on an external ssd. Am I thinking about it right? Just going by other peoples comments. It’s all going to be a huge learning curve for me coming from only working with the iPad.
