Debate is necessary. The first few centuries of the church was filled with debate because what was true could not be compromised and the same holds today. Unfortunately, many from the pulpit with great sway and power are teaching doctrines that are incorrect. Ought we to let them go unchallenged?

Giulia Bastoni: This all depends on what you mean by unity. If the things that divide are not required for salvation, I agree. But the scriptures command us to mark those who cause divisions that are contrary to the faith, and separate from them. We cannot be unequally yoked together.

anna nimus there are so many fractions in the body of Christ it's not funny. Articles of faith required for salvation ought to be adhered to. Sometimes people learn through example, such as the Manichaeans ( something like Gnostics)of Augustine's time. He taught in love. Focusing on common aspects of the faith he managed to win some. You know the whole body of Christ suffers from divisions people make by stressing the importance of articles that are not really pertinent to the faith. I am really sad that there is one person that talks this and the other that talks that and the Spirit witnesses they are both part of the body. What can I do? I feel helpless about it because I'm not sure how to bring peace and unity there.

anna nimus there are many examples in history of people that changed their positions on certain articles. Augustine is one. From Romans 7 , for instance , initially he held this meant we are sinnless. Later on he retracted this position. Still, he was Christian. He had been transformed and clothed in Christ. Being yoked with him in love would not have been unequal

With so many churches in most cities we have the privilege of worshipping with others who share our traditions, but that doesn't always mean we are divided. Mega churches are not good. Smaller ones serve the people better. But let's look at it: An orthodox Baptist, an orthodox Lutheran, and an orthodox Episcopalian are brothers. They are not divided. They would each be able to worship in the church of the other. They prefer one mode of baptism over another, one form of service over another but are united in soteriology. But they could not worship with Benny Hinn, Kenneth Copeland, Paula White, Joyce Meyer, or Creflo Dollar. Those all teach against the very character of God. They deny the sufficiency of the cross. They claim to be gods. This is a holy division. Would God be pleased to see us endorsing ad agreeing with those who teach that God has no power on earth, that poor people will not go to Heaven (unless it is to be a servant), that Kenneth Copeland could have died for the sins of the world? NO! To worship a holy God we must not take part in such blasphemy.

If he, personally believed in the Christ and was washed in the blood, and did not think that he could earn his own salvation through works, then he is, indeed, a brother. But he did have some ideas that are not helpful. He studied the philosophers, and took from their ideas in forming his theology. They taught that the physical was evil and the spiritual pure. This idea can easily lead to the idea of dualism, which is contrary to the character and omnipotence of God. ................ Augustine taught that the original sin of Adam was having sexual relations with Eve. That is pretty important, because understanding what happened when she ate of the fruit helps us see the errors in the New Age teachings. Eating the fruit was an attempt to gain knowledge which was reserved for Heaven alone. It wasn't the knowledge of procreation. They tended to all the animals, and the animals reproduced. She was his wife. No, she wanted forbidden knowledge. She was promised to be a god when she had the knowledge. The VERY SAME sin Satan committed and the same sin of the Prosperty preachers,, "Ye shall be gods." But this teaching was why he considered and taught that sex in marriage which was not meant for pregnancy was adultery. What a needless burden to married people! The Bible taught the very opposite!

@@saved6655 If they are Sunday keepers, they defy, God, and Christ. Matthew 19:17, 22:36-40 From the mouth of Christ himself. They are still eligible for salvation, though they be hippocrits. If you are SAVED, as in salvation, you are not yet saved. If you are SAVED, as in, saved from your old ways, or saved from a speeding ticket, it still isn't salvation. Is Paul Washer, one of these men? Who he ministers to, has my sympathy.

@@eltonron1558 Let’s look at your context here. Remember there is verses before 36-40 But when the Pharisees heard that Jesus had silenced the Sadducees, they gathered themselves together. One of them, a lawyer, asked Him a question, testing Him, Matthew 22: 34,35 This is a Pharisee “ONE OF THEM, a lawyer” one of who? “when the PHARISEE”. So Christ is talking to a hypocrite pharisee, who lived on the outside off of the “commandments” but on the inside like a dog. Hence Christ calling them white washed tombs in Mathew 23. So he tells them the only way your getting in is if you obey all the commandments. But Paul gets into what Jesus was really talking about. It was for freedom that Christ set us free (hence Christ telling us to take his yoke, faith in him); therefore keep standing firm and do not be subject again to a YOKE OF SLAVERY. Behold I, Paul, say to you that if you receive circumcision (or any other work or any merit for salvation like keeping the sabbath, he’s saying that doesn’t save), Christ will be of no benefit to you. And I testify again to every man who receives circumcision, that he is under obligation “to keep the whole Law” (just like the lawyer/Pharisee in Mathew 22:36-40). You have been severed from Christ (and if you do you have been severed because the only way to Christ is through faith alone, not keeping any decrees to merit salvation), you who are seeking to be justified by law (like sabbath or any other decree); you have fallen from grace. For we through the Spirit, by faith, are waiting for the hope of righteousness. Galatians 5: 1-5 This goes for both of your commandment texts, remember Christ was talking to white washed Pharisees not saved children of God. Now what your missing is when you are saved true faith shows fruit but not fruit that doesn’t follow along with the Bible. Paul talks specifically about what is and is not in Colossians 2: 14-17 having canceled out the certificate of debt consisting of decrees (what decrees?he tells us in verse 17) against us, which was hostile to us; and He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross. When He had disarmed the rulers and authorities, He made a public display of them, having triumphed over them through Him. Therefore NO ONE is to act as your judge in regard to food or drink or in respect to a festival or a new moon or a Sabbath day (umm pretty clear) things which are a mere shadow of what is to come; but the substance belongs to Christ. And I think I covered your false theology on this in all of that. We are saved through faith alone, Biblical faith expresses itself through obedience, but remember what I just showed you, the sabbath is not apart of this, neither is any decree to earn salvation. However, I could argue that regardless of outward expressions of sin all of our hearts are ultimately sinful, prideful, arrogant, thus the ongoing sanctifying work of Christ in each individual. If we continue to sin and our hearts are not transformed and we are not continuing to be transformed into the image of Jesus I would say regeneration has not occurred. So your comment of “if they are Sunday keepers they defy God” you have to show me with good biblical evidence where that is and obviously with what I just shown you, it cannot contradict scripture.

@@saved6655 Anytime, you read the words, "commandments", in the new testament, it is the ten commandments. You can't get around that. A true Christian, is supposed to DESIRE, keeping the commandments, as a matter of obedience to faith. IF COURSE, IT DOESN'T SAVE. You're going legalistic, as if I'm going legalistic. When Christ speaks, he is speaking to US. Do not play the context card, it will burn you, the second you cite something you agree with. Jesus is the final arbiter of truth in all matters. Truth, bitter to you, is good fruit. Jesus stated how the ten commandments is ALL THE LAW. You have a problem, distinguishing, God's holy law, from mosaic law. The ten commandments, did not come from, nor through Moses, but from the voice of God, and the Israelites HEARD him. That's why, even though Jesus, is talking to Satan, he declares how MAN, is to live. Matthew 4:4, i.e. the ten commandments. It is a thread that runs all the way to Revelation. Please read the following passages from Revelation, and then deny Christianity, is to observe them. 2:26, 12:17, 14:12, 22:14 Regarding the Sabbath, Jesus speaks to it, as he is Lord of it, and you call him Lord. I am asserting, the commandments, are good, holy, not grevious, how we show love to God, and neighbors, and best of all, doable. How can rest, be works? The commandments, ARE, the new covenant. Only two differences. For all humanity, and written on the heart, which reminds me. Where is the command for Sunday, the custom of a decieved Christianity?
