Total agree, what used to options are now standard equipment on so many cars. Sun roofs, heated and cooled seats, sport mode, the list goes on and on and the insurance climbs with each of these. Please manufacturers, the plain sister at a decent price will attract lots of potential buyers.
So true on the technology. People are always surprised at all the things our smartphones do beyond the basics. Very few of us dig deep into the higher tech.
The last time I owned a vehilce was over 36 years ago. Until recently. I now own a 2022 Nissan Frontier SV 4x4, and for me it's amazing! I will probably end up owning it for.... 36 years 🙃
I share the same thought about Buick's nomenclature lineup: it's impossible to remember. It was the same thing a couple of years ago with Lincoln, with their "Mk" something.

Thank you for the advice on the Jetta GLi issue. I don’t have the car back yet from the collision shop. The other party’s Insurance is paying for repairs. I am going after the insurance for the diminished value because of the accident. After all is said and done I will weight the options.
Hey guys, love your channel. I think that's what's driving up the insurance too. I'm shopping around for cars and the insurance mentioned with more safety feature tech the higher the cost. I'm debating between a Mazda3 Sport GS/GT or a Prius Prime SE. The Prius seems to have less wow but haven't tested it yet. In GTA it's rare to find any.
Agree with Andrea. The new BMW X3 interior is hideous. They finally didn't mess up the exterior on the new X3 and then destroyed the car with the interior instead.
on the subject of 'all the extras being pushed to us', it's gotten a bit much I guess.....love that my TSS 2.5+ is mainly quiet in the background and does not squawk at me. I bought a low spec Venza because I liked 1) the hybrid system 2) smaller wheels for best ride 3) wireless charging + wireless CarPlay 4) conventional HVAC controls.
I love the modern infotainment screen to seek information and for the map and music, but...... I still prefer having EVERYTHING else on a button or knob. I had to get rid of my bmw bc everything had to be searched for in the screen. I hate that.
@@johnmartin7158 right. My BMW, I had to search through screens for the AC, seat heaters, temp control. These are things you adjust frequently! It’s not just set once and you’re good.

we have a 2024 Subaru Forester Wilderness..just did a trip from Ottawa to PEI and it has all the tech anyone needs. What a great touring vehicle … Tell me again why I need ambient lighting..with 30 different colours ..duh
Buicks: to be 100% honest with you guys, I couldn’t tell which Buick is which. In fact, I didn’t even know they were making more than one. My hypothesis: even if I try, my brain refuses to care about Buick.
Agree with BMW. I had an original BMW X7 2019. I ordered a new 2022 X7 before the 2023 redesign. I loved the original design and interior and wanted to keep it longer. Hopefully the next redesign will be much improved or I’ll switch brands.
When buying used, maintenance history for me is king! You'll always do better durability wise, never mind financially since it will be cheaper, buying a high mileage but well to meticulously maintained vehicle, than buying a low mileage, but poor to spottily maintained vehicle.
Agree with Zack. If you don't have a home plug then don't buy an EV. All those videos last winter where people were raging against EV's were for people who did not have home charging and ended up siitting in long lineups at charging stations or having to be towed.
My 8" infotainment screen is practically wasted on me...( '19 volkswagen tiguan sel premium) I use my android phone and Google map, along with cd or radio music... I do enjoy the Fender sound system, rain-sensing wipers, backup camera and dual-zone climate control...😉
So true about tech. Even a standard MS office package with Word. Studies show we only use 10% of what the program can do. Ex. We know how to create a word doc, save it and print but there is so much more the program can do. As for voice commands, in my wife's Tesla Model 3, they're over 100, and they work fantastic. Many car reviewers, and very big ones, completely miss this functionality...
One important resale tip that was left out: Take better photos! Buying a car is partially an emotional experience, so spend a few minutes driving your car to a park, a parking garage with nice lighting, or at a marina at sunset. I am sick and tired of seeing half a$$ portrait mode close up shots of the steering wheel and front lights. Nicer photos suggest that the owner actually has pride in the vehicle and probably took great care of it.
Loved Volvo's old tri-digit naming conventions: series #, cylinder #, door #. BMW used to be rational: series + engine displacement, and in the 1990 cost ~ series*$10K.

Kia dealers have plenty of Seltos inventory with no "mandatory packages". One of our local Kia dealers has 15 new Seltos models to choose from at $30K to $32K.
Nowadays, with the cost of living, people need cheap, basic, reliable transportation. Cars like the Yaris (Echo) or the Tercel were cheap to buy and would last forever. I see a lot of Yaris around still going strong after 200-300k km. Offer all-dressed versions for those who can afford them, but also propose a stripped-down version for those with a modest budget, even if it means a smaller profit.
Agree 100% with looking at used, that you're buying the owner and not the vehicle. I'd much rather buy a high mileage car that's got a documented service history, than a low mileage car that's been neglected.
Funny thing about NX and UX Lexus hybrids. You have to be REALLY lucky to get one. My brother found an NX hybrid in Cincinnati finally. They only had one coming in. It was kind of a horrendous red (normally he likes red, but it was a real howler). He moved a month later to New York state and the Toyota dealer in Rochester was going to get one (1) NX plug in hybrid which was what he was really looking for in Ohio. Toyota keeps these in short, short supply. If you are lucky enough to get one from a Lexus dealer, forget choosing a colour. In Toronto, the risk of buying a Lexus is that you have to be prepared to have it stolen. Now a Buick may not be as luxurious as the Lexus, but they really aren't too bad. And, they don't get stolen. I have a Prius Prime XSE on order. I ordered it in 2023 - it will likely not come until 2025. I hope it doesn't get stolen if it ever arrives because I don't really want to wait another couple of years to replace it.
Talking about the tech being added, that one reason I like Toyota their hesitancy to use latest and greatest and do tried and true. As someone who has a disability where touchscreens prevent me from effectively operating the controls. I use to own Hondas until they added touchscreens
I drive a 2019 KIA Forte5 GT. A hatchback that is fun to drive. It works great with snow tires. No problems with voice commands. When something like an app is not working, the infotainment system will tell you why & how to fix it.

With regard to plug-ins or a full EV and you are looking at moving into a condo or rental apartment be sure you get one where the charging infrastructure is already in place. For new buildings in Ontario that charging infrastructure was required by provincial code beginning in 2017 though was that was repealed by the current government and now it depends on your municipality building code. In Toronto, as of May 2022, the code is that all residential parking spaces provided for dwelling units located in an apartment building, mixed-use building, and multiple dwelling unit building, but excluding visitor parking, must include an energized outlet capable of providing Level 2 charging or higher to the parking space. B.C. is the most advanced with at least 20 cities having building codes that require EV-readiness. What I can say is that having the charging infrastructure added to an existing building is a process that our older condo building is going through now and it's not an easy retrofit.
@@billurban1581 True, but as I've discovered most older condo/apartment buildings have very few, if any, 110/120V outlets in their garages, is your parking space near one, and then the building has no way to bill for the electricity used. As built, older buildings never anticipated anything other than cars that would be fueled offsite. Things are changing and there is limited grant money to convert older buildings (which may not outlast the current government) but it's a process. Hopefully our condo building will be successful in obtaining the grant to retrofit the charging infrastructure and even after that owners that want chargers (about 40 of us in our building) will still have to pay several thousand to run power to their individual parking spaces. Condos are not single family dwellings and upgrading the building's electrical system to support multiple EV chargers is more complicated than you might think, certainly more complicated than I first thought. I also have found that most gasoline car/EV sceptic unit owners are tough to get onside if it's going to cost them a penny so it's an uphill battle, perhaps impossible if we don't get the federal grant money. As I said before if you currently have a full EV or even a PHEV and are looking to move into a condo or rental apartment you'd be well advised to choose one with the charging infrastructure already in place. Otherwise resign yourself to using public chargers for all your charging.

I have been comfortable in the past wiring a normal outlet, I wouldn’t be comfortable doing 240V. For condo or apartment parking, I envision dedicated parking spaces with access to these outlets, the users pay 35 or $40 a month added to their rent for the privilege, and a sign “unauthorized users will be towed.” As you can see, I am a PHEV advocate, they make things so much simpler, especially for the power grid. Extrapolating from Akio Toyoda’s remarks, to the tune of 85% less complicated. What about cleaner air? The EPA says my car emits less than 1/3 of the greenhouse gas is coming from the typical 2024 gas only automobile.
@@billurban1581 It's a good idea but the trick is having everyone to agree to it, getting all the permits, paying for the installation (again more expensive than you might think even for 110/120V), buying the appropriate building insurance in case anything goes wrong once it's in use, figure out the billing, and of course those with gasoline cars won't want to pay a cent towards any of it. Like I said it's a process and not like adding a regular 110 outlet to a single family home. I am with you, I own a PHEV, and I moved to a condo last year assuming it wouldn't be a big deal. As it turns out it would have been a lot easier if I'd just bought a condo in a building that had the charging infrastructure already in place.
Some, if not most of the tech in cars is poorly developed. If the tech worked seamlessly and easily (say voice control for example), people would use it and like it. The fundamental problem with all of it is cost versus value delivered. Engineers "half-develop" products and get the marketing folks excited. The manufacturer puts this stuff in cars and it grosses up the cost / price. Not good.
No the Envision has a 2L turbocharged 4-cylinder with a 9-speed automatic transmission, 228 horsepower and 258 lb-ft. of torque, standard AWD. The Envista has a 1.2L turbocharged 3-cylinder with a 6-speed automatic transmission, 136 horsepower and 162 lb-ft of torque. FWD only.

Hi. I live in Canada and planning to buy a new car. According to my budget, I’m confused between 2 options i.e. Mistubishi RVR SE AWC and Hyundai Venue Preferred. I drive around 200 km everyday. Confused since Venue is good in terms of gas consumption and also the interior and brand name. On the other hand, RVR is a 2.4 L engine with lots of power and big in size compared to venue. Can you please suggest me an option since I don’t know which one will be best considering Long Term Reliability.
Question: I wanna get the id4 with under 300 mile range but i hear if you're driving all freeway miles (60 mph-70mph) you will only get a little over 100 miles before charging again. Is this true in your experience with EV in general?

Small, fun to drive sedans/hatches.....are the civic and mazda 3 really small any more? I have owned numerous civics since the 90s and my current one, a 19, is the size of mid size cars from the oughts.. my gti is considerably smaller and i consider that, not my civic, a small hatch
Buick has zero resale value, no one is out there looking for them. From what I see is people only buy them when they are the cheapest used car on the lot.
That’s -one- of the reasons I want a used Envision. Great value, but it’s also simply a well done vehicle. A little more premium of a feel and more comfort than a slightly used current gen CRV (the other vehicle I like a lot), but still costs a touch less. CRV is lacking in some features for me, for the price.
Maybe it’s because i live In california but any jeep wranglers I see that are within 2-5 model years old are 95% 4XE. Do they really sell that many more 4XE than anything? Or is it just this market in california since even the lifted jeeps here never get dusty let alone touch a trail.
The tech in China thing: but that's not what people are really complaining about. When people complain about too much tech, they are actuality saying the product is too hard to use, not that it has too much features. Like weird design choices in more everyday cars like Kia's weird infotainment/HVAC toggling scheme or VW eliminating rear window switches for a toggle, or doing the same functions on a previous generation but buried in menus on a newer generation. When people complain about tech it's not because "of there's too much ambient lighting or seat massagers or I don't want my car ordering my groceries for me, it's that some basic simple function that worked for decades is now unintuitive to use but has the veneer of tech painted over it to look "exciting."
Saw a car repair about a big, luxury SUV. It had complex system to control HVAC air flow with about 20 little electric motors to open and close vents. The gears between the motors and vent flaps were plastic, and lost many of their teeth. The whole interior had to be torn out to replace about $10 of parts.
I wish you guys have access to some foreign market Chinese vehicles so we in North America can see what’s trending in other markets. I saw review for Geely Galaxy E5 yesterday and it beats the popular BYD Atto 3 in all categories. It’s going to go to Australia, Malaysia, Thailand, and probably Europe too
