A Video about to quickly fill these annoying gaps while assembling miniatures. MAinly aimed at beginners, but I often get this question by miniature painters of all skill lvels. There is a lot of other methods, but over the years I have found this to be the fastest, easiest and the method with the best results. Let me know if you prefer any other methods and why!

The same method as you, except the milliput, just cheap greenstuff, I will try the milliput. I also have a cheap angular shaper that I tape a small strip of sand paper to for easier use.

Sprue Goo tends to be my starting point for gaps if it's a plastic model, if it doesn't work or it's a resin/metal model, I tend to use either green stuff or milliput, basically the same way you do. Milliput tends to be better for harder, sharper surfaces and green stuff for more organic shapes.

Just a quick Note: other then Green Stuff you can create an emulsion with water and Milliput or a thick watery paste that acts great as a quick gap filler. It still cures and fills the gap without shrinking and eliminates some of the Sanding work if done correctly. You can use a color shaper or an old brush to fill the gap and use a Qtip or your Finger to rub away the excess Material. (The Algorythm brought me here a bit late)

This! This was the video I was looking for. In the past I have just tried to pile in extra super glue and try to file flat to fix gaps, or just over file seams to hide them. However I'm starting a Troggoth army for Age of Sigmar and being a low model count army I'm really hoping to push my skills to the next level and do my current best work on them. I have the milliput and a set of color shapers, just needed to find a video with tips on how to do it. I also have a new airbrush I'm going to use for the first time, to try to do some better blending. I am also planning on spending more time on the bases and have actually bothered this time to buy stuff specifically to do basing terrain with. Your video(s) on making better bases have really inspired me to do better with this, I can really see how much it improves the final product with very little extra work. Thank you for all your tutorials!

I'm getting into doing scale models as a hobby to get away from sitting in front of the computer too long. I used to do them as a kid, but never with any detail. I am not good at painting but I got a couple decent airbrushes and they have changed the way I do models. No more rattle cans and brush lines. Airbrushing does seem to show imperfections more in the plastic though. It's not a bad thing because it also means they show more of the mold detail too. Your technique here is really helpful. Thank you. I would use your affiliate link but I'm in the US and have projects on the table. Can't wait for the shipping, sorry.

A little trick also if you’re gap isn’t too big you can apply another bead of plastic glue down the gap and using a exacto knife or that tool from games workshop for mold lines and just smooth it flush. It works just as good sometimes and if anything all the shavings from cleaning the plastic can also be used in bigger gaps melted with the plastic glue and shaved or sanded smooth.

honestly - while a color shaper will help with that - I think GS can't compare to Milliput. I mention it briefly in the video: GS can't be smoothed out as thinly as MP and will leave lines and it also cant be sandpapered properly.

I use the spru and grind up the plastic into a powder . I have a jar that kinda lasts me for my entire life . I then use plastic glue on my gap and sprinkle my powder in . Before it dries I use my glue and work it untill everything is smooth . I also use the glue to smooth out my mold lines after I have gone over them. On pewter i use this method . But the stuff I use comes in a paste and uses acetone to activate so i can work with and reactivate it.

I found that milliput is more tacky and when removing excess it easily spready across bigger surfaces where you don't want it. Because it's so fine grained, you don't see it dry up where you don't want it as small little bumps until you prime it and at that point you're like f**k it. I own both but still prefer green stuff more because it doesn't go all over the place.
@trovarion
@trovarion Год назад
Never had that problem.
@Navtyr
@Navtyr Год назад
@@trovarion When you remove the excess it often smears all over the mini or stick into nooks. Continuing removing it with a dry shaping tool doesn't get rid of all of it, as some of it sticks to the surface regardless of how much you scrub. But if you use water / alcohol and thin it down in order to remove it, it mostly just spreads over a wider surface in a thinner layer. Do you do anything special about it? I'm not sure if i'm doing anything wrong. Thanks.

@adof7257
@adof7257 4 года назад
i tried different brands of color shapers. sadly they are often too soft or get pulled out of their ferrule very easily. do you think making color-shaper-tips out of greenstuff would be good? since you can sculpt your desired form and it still remains relatively soft and bendy.
@trovarion
@trovarion 4 года назад
i mean, I make all my sculpting tools myself, but they are stiff - and so would a tip out of greenstuff be. Here you want a bit of plasticity of the tool. Like i said in the video I used these color shapers since 16 years and they are still in their best shape. Use the royal sov. Ltd. UK - they are only like 4 pounds and will last you forever. Noname brands are often crap. And use the extra firm variant (black) - they are just stiff enough!

Thanks for these tips! How do you attach the head to the torso after you filled the gaps (4:44)? Do you sand off a bit of the neck and glue the head in? Or do you do something else?
@trovarion
@trovarion 3 года назад
i dont understand the question. the hole for the head is still there.
@htpkey
@htpkey 3 года назад
@@trovarion Thank you for your reply. My comment sounds a bit confusing. With the miniatures that I have you need to insert the head in the backside of the torso (in a fixed slot) and you click the frontside of the torso in. The head is then secured and you can't pull it out the torso. If I connect the 2 sides of the torso and fill the gaps (as seen in this video) I then can't attach the head to my miniaure (the bit below the neck is too wide to slide in the neck hole). My question was if you have to do any prep work before attaching the head to the torso. Maybe this is specific to my selection of miniatures.
@trovarion
