I'm in the same boat. New 40" 5k2k monitor and a client has asked me to make some screen capture videos optimised for FHD 1920x1080. Was playing with FancyZones and couldn't figure it out how to snap a window to a zone until I saw your Shift+drag method. Then it all snapped into place! BOOM!
Do you know how to lock your windows to the zones? I have all my windows nicely placed in the zones but when I switch input to my other computer and come back to it the windows are all over the place again and I can't find how to lock them there.
Found this tool by chance when checking what was new with PowerToys on Windows 10. A very interesting utility that eliminated my need for a third monitor.
Maybe Fancyzones does this and I haven't figured it out but I just got a ultrawide monitor and the only real issue I have come across is when I want to watch video (youtube) full screen, I can snap the youtube window into one half of the screen using windows11 built in window arranging tool or fancyzones but with both when I try to go full screen it ignores my window arrangement and just uses the whole screen, covering up what I'm trying to do on the other half of the screen with no video size benefit since youtube vids are 16:9. Is there a solution for this problem? I tried using the pbp mode of the samsung ultrwide I have but that has other wierd problems (like the taskbar covering the bottom of a full screen window ) and I want to run the screen at 240 hertz. thanks for any help with this.
Good info - but really need to just get to the point. The video drones on and on and on and on about this monitor. The question is: how do I use Fancy Zones.
Fancyzones do not work when you, for example, press F11 in Chrome inside a zone, I want full screen just inside that zone, but it works as if there is no zone at all. This, for me, was the only reason Fancyzones would be interesting.
You just saved my life from insanity. I'm using a 55" tv for my monitor so you can imagine where my fragments of windows are located. As a developer this has cleaned up my screen and my entire development process. :) Thanks
If i fullscreen a browser inside a zone (F11) will it actually stay inside the zone or just go full screen. I think a lot of people comes here because they need a tool for ultrawide screens to be able to do "zones" but in full screen in side the zone
If you go in and make a custom one you can setup zones that are edge to edge if you desire. There is a minimum size though and of course the app need to support the small size if it is too small
Only 9mb when in the background. All the tools seem to be 10mb or less. It takes up 75mb when Powertools is open. It feels like a fully baked windows feature.
you mentioned zoom, did u figure out how to share a specific zone in a zoom meeting? so far, my meeting attendees see the entire monitor - all the zones.
So you can't pick a zone to share, but I usually snap the app I am showing to a zone that is 1920x1080 and share the app. If I am doing a full presentation then I usually change my monitor resolution.
I am embarrassed to submit this query. Maybe I'm just thick. I've been trying to utilise Fancy Zones on an attached external Iiyama 2760 monitor, with Laptop lid down (which, BTW, using W + P will _not_ display 'Second Screen Only'. But ignore this for now). Using PowerToys 51.1 I activate FZ Editor. It displays the choice of splits available. I choose (say) 3 columns. They now display _behind_ the editor front image. Tutorials such as this now say double-click on the selected image, in this case the 3-columns. But doing so closes the editor and the 3 columns vanish. What am I doing wrong? Groucho Marx said "Even a 5-year old could understand this. Get someone to fetch me a 5-year old'. Could someone tell me in baby steps what I am doing wrong, please?
@@VermeulenJoske Tks for reply. No dice. I'll explain again. a) Open PToys (full screen) b) Select Launch Layout Editor c) Templates now displayed.. The 3-column (default) is blue-edged, as is my external Monitor 1. (screen 2, or the Laptop screen is _not_ blue-edged, despite being on 'Extend' with laptop lid closed). _Underneath_ the Template window the 3-column layout _alone_ is visible. Double clicking now on the Editor's 3-column layout simply closes the Editor and returns me to the PToys entry screen. Holding Shift whilst double-clicking does the same. When you say 'Drag the window' ... _which_ wndow?
@@geraldthorburn1123 No need to hold shift when double clicking to select a zone layout. After selecting a zone layout, drag another window/program with your mouse and hold shift to make the 3-column layout visible and choose which one out of 3 you want that window/program to display in.
@@VermeulenJoske No need to select a Zone layout, you say. And I agree, as the Template window opens to show the 3-col option is Blue-edged (as if the default 'suggestion'). So its 'ghost' is visible underneath the Templates window. But how can I _now_ drag another window when the whole screen is taken up with the 2 just mentioned displays (Template window and ghost) ? From _where_ do _you drag_ your window with the mouse, whilst holding Shift? I appreciate your patience and I feel sure there is something laughably simple that resolves all this.
