WOW, I had no idea I had bed bugs because I thought the breakouts, I experienced, were allergies. As I itched the welts (probably bed bug bites) I would bleed. When I woke up in the am I thought the marks - little blood spots I saw on my sheets were from me scratching at my allergy sores, I thought it was an allergic to something I was eating, wow, I believe now it is and always was bed bugs! I saw the pics of the spots of blood and the black smears like ink spots - then I knew!!! Oy Vey! Well, now I know. I will send you pics of the preliminary things I am doing to combat these horrible creepy critters. I call it the BB Battle! LOL!

How you described this is 💯% like me too. My little dog slept with me so I assumed it was flea bites all along and after he was gone with regular vacuuming the issue would go away. Since Covid-19 I'm home almost 97% of my time. All of a sudden those small lines of bites on my shoulder are back and another 50 bites on my elbows and feet. I never had RU-vid to look this up. But it's bed bugs!!! OMG ‼️ I'm just heartsick I have them.

Joel, U R amazing! Thank you incredibly for the EXPLANATION as u did them, however the ONLY PART I personally didn't understand was WHY the sugar & yeast would draw them in as a REPLACEMENT BAIT, sir. There are many points you brought up that were great to learn such as their claws, etc with enlarged picture to help. Thank you. You are a minister to the people from a higher power.

Sir, the yeast and sugar give off carbon dioxide (CO2) which attracts the bedbugs. It is a substitute for our exhaled breath.

Not sure if we have a different breed of bed bugs, but used what seems to be identical plastic bowls from dollar general as in video, but every time I shine a flashlight in dark spot I have bowl placed at, each time I see a baby bedbug climb right up side of plastic and escape with ease. They seem to not have any problems what so ever climbing up back out of the plastic bowls, maybe only caught 3 baby bed bugs in total of 4 bowls made. My guess is those few got feet wet and made them not be able to climb out. Will be trying the more advanced traps you showed with 2 liter bottles and gonna try glass coffee cups as well to catch them in. Am very appreciative of all your videos, may just be a life saver for us, I thank you very much and will update you on progress.

I built my bed bug trap last night. One problem I've run into is that even though I was careful to have my tubing above the water line in the bottle. The bubbles however have gotten into the tube and its spitting out bubbles into my shot glass. Do I need to poor some out of the bottle? Will this effect its potency if I remove the cap?

Ok I’ve been binge watching. What is the actual best working trap without the bottle and the bag? I watched that one last and it seemed to make sense that the c02 would be a cool second kill source but seemed like it could limit capture due to the rubber band. Plus the big bottle really limited discreet placement. Also the previous videos matter of factly stated not to carry the tape or cloth over the lip because some may not make it into the bowl. I’m building tbis today

True, but I think he's aiming at a way to trap and eliminate them that poor people or people in large apt units can use. People of moderate means will probably call an exterminator as soon as they start getting bit. I'm trying the home DIYs myself to see if I can get my problem under control. If I still have them then I will probably call an exterminator too. But I have a small house and it has a lot of clutter going on. I have to address the clutter anyway before I could call anyone. I hate having them!!!

I have been going back/forth attempting to figure out whether my bites (total 3 sets of 2 lined up bites each, located approximately left knee bend, but on side of knee). After searching online for hours on end, I finally decided upon flea bites (I am AB neg blood type that I have learned is rare because of Bubonic Plague wipeout) because I already am aware that they are attracted to me as their first option.), the bottom line of what I made this decision is because of reading that if one presses down on a flea bite, the skin underneath will turn whitish. However, now, five days later a third bite has appeared in line with one of the sets of 2, so now I am looking at 3 in-a-row that sounds like the "breakfast, lunch, and dinner of bed bugs. Also, the delayed action seems true to the bed bug theory too. So, now I guess I am leaning toward bed bug bites. My experience was only itching when I first noticed and then for a short time only. Please tell me what you think, dear Joel, and in the meantime, I made a batch of your formula and filled as many individual black containers to use up formula: these are set up atop my memory foam mattress on the nonslippery backside of a large, heavy ceramic floor tile to keep from spilling. Doesn't the light of day keep the bed bugs from appearing? And, when it is dark, I have to be in the bed albeit tossing and turning... Also, you seem pretty convinced that this will work. Is there a way I can read about the scientific evidence for myself. Also, this is so much easier than all the tubing, etc., but is it just as effective? I assume because of the passing in time, this has proven to be just as effective while being easier to set up. HELP!!!!!!!

Joel Z. Williams my daughter woke up three days ago telling me something was biting her. I go into the room with my cell light on and check the bed! I see tiny little bugs crawling. There are like 30. Iam like oh fuck hell no! (Sorry). The next day I found your video. I taped the bottom of the walls/beds/furniture with clear tape lol. The whole darn apartment 😂. I washed and put everything in the dryer. I bought a vapour machine and vapped everything! There were none last night and the night before. I found three today. How did they crawl up that tape lol. Well we've been treating the issue assuming bed bugs were the culprits. So we have all bed covers on all of the beds. We have also been using pesticides as well but haven't seen a cease in markings on us. We have never actually seen a bed bug under the linings of mattresses or any where else for that matter through all of the spraying and moving things around.

I know were not supposed to move room to avoid spreading but what if we all moved into my sons room could we possible contain it into one room while we get a battle plan together? If they have no food source in any other room they shouldnt roam right?
@JoelZWilliams1

Interesting question, and it brings up a ("teachable moment"). One of the keys to the success of bedbugs throughout their evolution is a phenomenon that has been termed ("traumatic insemination"). When bedbugs mate the male mounts the female and basically impales her abdomen to deposit his sperm. Even despite the fact that the female has a natural orifice for reproduction. Obviously, this is probably extremely painful for the female. Most likely she will attempt to scurry away to find a dark place to hide in order to avoid being attacked again. That location could be a child's shoe, a backpack set on the floor, behind a picture hanging on the wall, and etc. Entomologists theorize that this act alone has contributed to the spread of bedbugs throughout the world. So, to answer your question, No. As long as one room is infested with bedbugs, it is unlikely that you will be able to contain them to just that location for any meaningful amount of time.

Thank you for this very informative video. We paid $500 for a 25 minute application of Cimexa, we have a 3 story home. The product is guaranteed for 6 months, now, in 12 days it will be a month since the application & were still getting bit. The company wants us to wait 12 days before they will come out said something about the hatching phase of the BB. only this time I doubt they will dust, they said they would spray. The product itself is a fraction of the cost on Amazon, however, when they dusted we were told we had to leave for 5 hours so the dust could settle, also, so we would not inhale the Cimexa. What is your knowledge on this, also if the average person wanted to dust their own house what tips would you give them and what precautions would you take? The company did not find any signs of infestation and the BB seems to be limited to the living room. Thank you again for all your help.

Can I use this trap in one room at a time and just do it over and over in each room until theyre gone or do I have to leave my home?
@JoelZWilliams1
@JoelZWilliams1 6 лет назад
Good question. If given a choice between you and a trap, the bedbug will always prefer a human host. So it's a good strategy to place these in rooms where you are not present for large parts of the day. Conversely, if can also use these quite effectively in rooms where you have already incorporated mattress/furniture encasement (using plastic sheeting to create a barrier between yourself and the bugs). Please watch my video on that too.
@flamestar1759

Joel Z. Williams the problem is, is that they are in both bed rooms and I only have 2 bed rooms and only 1 with a bed. They might be in my living room also but i havent seen any yet. We already had exterminators come in and spray through my apt complex and now theyre back but i only saw tiny nimphs alive so far so Im trying to get it done quickly and efficiently before it gets worse. But I have 2 daughters and a small apt I dont know what to do and I tried covering with a plastic but I cant lift the top mattress to completely encase it cause its a heavier thicker foam mattress which is too heavy for my back. So I just have it laying on top. I dont know if thats going to help but I am going to get some DE spray and CimeXa powder hopefully by this weekend. Im gna try to make the trap though and safe guard walls and everything with tape. I might just end up either throwing everything away or staying with a family member awhile. Im home all the time so theres not a room we dont go in usually unless we just sleep on the couch and floor lol
@JoelZWilliams1
@JoelZWilliams1 6 лет назад
I understand about the weight of the mattress. Plastic on top of the mattress will help very little unless you sleep directly on it without allowing your sheets to serve as a ladder from your box spring to you. Also consider placing each of the four feet of your bed in plastic cups. This will prevent bedbugs from leaving your bed and spreading throughout the house while also preventing them from getting in your box springs from the ground. I will show you that you can easily mimic using items from your kitchen: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-vGK4xI03YA8.html

Hi Mr Williams. I have watched all of your videos which are amazing. But i have questions please. 1. The 91% alcohol spray works GREAT. Can we just use that with CimeXa? 2. The EucoClean you recommended was quite expensive and didnt work at all. Have you heard of SayByeBugs spray? Is there a need to get it if using alcohol? 3. In the trap/bowls: if your bedfoot goes down into the bowl, what's to keep the bugs from climbing back up the bedfoot? 4. Can CimeXa be put on/in cloth furniture? I'm spraying alcohol deep in a recliner and couch, vacuuming and dusting underneath with CimeXa, but the bugs aren't really visible underneath. I can't find the nest or hoard anywhere...just 6-7 together at most. 5. We have encased the box springs on 1 bed and both box and mattress on another. My husband swears that he's found 3-4 bugs ON top of the plastic! We used 3.5 mil as that's all we could find. How is this possible? 6. How big are the babies? I have felt (can't see them really) something crawling on me. When I get it, it's a tiny reddish bug like a clover mite. Small as a needle point...could this be a baby BB or something else? 7. I am a clean freak. We have no idea how we got BBs but they started in 1 2nd story room and are now in all BRs and downstairs in a sofa and recliner. When you say to vacuum vigilently, is that INSIDE the furniture as well as the floors, along baseboards etc? This process can be a full time job! (I'm spending 2-3 hours a night AFTER 10+ hrs initially). Thank you for sharing all of your vast wisdom, it's much appreciated! Still fighting the WAR, but gaining ground!

Joel Z. Williams Thank you for your very prompt reply! I like the alcohol for immediate extinction of those "seen". 2 more questions if you don't mind... Are you familiar with "mites"? I KNOW I have BBs but I've been working in the yard a ton. I wonder if either a. I have babies hatching (the reason I asked about size and visibility) or b. if I have possibly 2 issues going on? 2a. Will CimeXa or alcohol kill the EGGS of BBs (I've seen tiny clumps of granular white things) b. Are either effective on mites that I may have inadvertently brought in from landscaping? You, dear sir, are a true blessing to so many! You are an advocate for ALL people, not just lower income! I refuse to spend tons of money on these vermin!! THANK YOU!
@kellithompson805

@@kellithompson805 you can look up on Google pictures showing what they look like at each instar. They do look like mites when they are babies before they get their brown/tan color. If they are red that means they are full of blood. I thought the same thing at first until I did some research on them.

TWO BIG TIPS if you are going to make this trap: #1) Do use totally black athletic tape (found in weight lifter area of sports dept at walmart, $3) so you can see the EGGS that are laid all over the outside of the glass. You need a magnifier glass to see the eggs well, and on white tape? or on white tape that is 'mostly' colored in with black marker? is no way you would realize, you are now holding a bedbug factory covered with eggs on it. #2) The trap you make will NOT be re-usable, just so you know. Reason? because it is too hard to get those eggs off, as there are tiny crevices in the tape on the glass. You could miss seeing an egg and allow it to hatch inside your home. I did not have a glass bowl that was tall, so I made this using a 6 inch tall glass from dollar store, which was actually easier to wrap, in one long piece of tape, going around and around instead of cutting off one piece of tape at a time. The next morning, i got no bugs IN the fluid inside the glass, I don't know what i did wrong? but i did get EGGS on that fabric tape on outside of glass, one egg here, one egg there, scattered alllllllllllll over the tape. I am off to the dollar store to buy some more glasses now, or maybe a thrift shop to buy glasses .

We didn't know we had them either. My mom had a rash kept complaining at me saying my dog had fleas. He didn't of ofcourse flea pill and all. She went doct few weeks and they had no clue. Nothing had affected me. Finally one day I went in her room while I was cleaning to change her sheets and was like what the crap is this little bug. I killed it and thought nothing. Another week later I thought maybe I should look it up. Went in her room found more looked it up and yup. My mom's room has them. Started my traps today. Thankfully I haven't seen an anywhere else yet. My mom had stayed at a hotel a couple weeks before her rash. Pretty sure since in 30 years we never have had them that they came from the hotel. So the battle begins!

maybe you would have some ideas to help me. ive tried the other 2 methods in the past with no luck. i did place 4 of these new ones, 1 in each corner of living room last night. no luck so far. weve gotten rid of our couches, shelves, and tons of our stuff that my husband has worked so hard for. all our linens & clothes have been washed and dried on high, they remain in bins, and we do linens once a week. the remainder of our kids toys and our dvds are in bags and bins sealed with nuvan strips. ive treated with cimexa around the house for the last 3 months. all mattresses and pillows are sealed with encasements and plastic sheeting taped around them too. our landlord has paid for a pmp twice (sprayed whatever they treat with) in the last month. i vacuum and discard contents every day. we found 1 dead one a month ago in our couch, thats why we threw them away, then we found 1 skin shed under our dvd shelf, thats why we threw them away. no other signs of them, except we continue to get bit. the pmp wants fo rule out delayed reaction (even though im certain their not) thats why im doing traps as he wants evidence its still an active infestation. we literally live out of totes theres nowhere for them to hide anymore. im broke i have no more money to fight these nasty things. do you have any other ideas of things i could do to rid us of these things? please, i hope you can help with ideas.

One BIG caveat: This is non-toxic to humans and is probably a great help to people. However, DO NOT ALLOW animals to have access to the mixture. Pets, such as dogs and cats, will probably be attracted to the smell and sugar, and if they ingest it serious bloating could result to a dangerous extent.

I have tried your system Does not work for me. I ended up having three large bottles producing a lot of C02, you could hear it hissing into the bowl. I have not had a single bug come into the bowl. I thought maybe no bugs, so I slept in the bed and got bitten maybe 100 times in two nights. I carry on with the C02 and still nothing. Not seen a single bug yet. But I have 100s of bites. So... for me, this does not work at all. Very disappointing as I spent a good week trying to make this work.
@JoelZWilliams1
@JoelZWilliams1 7 лет назад
1. the traps will never work if you are always at home. BBs prefer a human host. 2.Check to see if your trap is burning too "hot". Too much Co2 is a turnoff for BB's. 3. minimize the gap between your fabric/tape on the sides of your trap and it's rim. It's almost better to have a little of that going slightly over the rim. The idea is to allow the BB to crawl into the lip of the trap and then let gravity take them the rest of the way in. 4. Don't just stop at building the traps. Put some CimeXa down ASAP, and wrap your mattresses in plastic sheeting sealed with duct tape. This is a process, a long war. Get used to that idea.The enemy also gets a vote.

It is two very old traditional wooden houses with mud walls that get rented out. Obviously not now - so are empty. We are in the middle of now where, so need a home solution. No one has been in there for around 10 days since we discovered them. I slept in there for two nights after maybe 7 days of trying your method, the first night I noticed nothing - second night I got whacked! Have tried everything, small shot glasses, plastic bowls, in 3 to 4 different locations in the rooms all at once, and then just one area for days at a time. Not a single bug has been caught and we followed all your instructions and cover the tap right into the blow for about 1 cm. We tested the bombs at 2.00am and put the pipe in a glass of water and they were bubbling away. I now have a small steamer delivered so plan to use that in all the rooms as there many cracks in the walls and wooden floor board 100s of years old and then spray with bleach and washing powder mix and vacuum. I was really hoping the C02 way would work as I need something to draw them out of the woodwork... literally. But not one single bug has been caught using your method....
@JoelZWilliams1
@JoelZWilliams1 7 лет назад
Something isn't adding up. Even a poorly constructed trap would have attracted some BBs to the lure in an uninhabited dwelling. Even if they're not getting caught in the trap. Steam is a boondoggle. You would have to get the heat up to at least 120 F and get it directly on them for about 2 seconds to be fatal. Can you imagine how hard that is going to be trying to get steam onto an insect that has evolved for millions of years on how to hide from the tip of a bird's beak. Get some CimeXa and put that down ASAP.
@duncanridgley6261
@duncanridgley6261 7 лет назад
Ordering the CimeXa now, if you have an affiliate link for Europe, happy to click on it. For sure something is not right, the active dry yeast mixed with sugar is definitely making C02, the tape on the outside will for sure let them climb, the talken powder we only tried after a few days. I will make a video tomorrow and send it to you so you can see, I have tried everything.... not a single bug has been caught.

Oh, i see now. Replace the duct tape that you're currently using to wrap the outside of your trap with adhesive sports tape (like boxers use to wrap their hands under their gloves). a roll should cost about 3 USD, Your results should improve dramatically.
