I didn't do this yet but I followed his advice about ●wrapping the mattress in 4 mil plastic ● I bagged up all our belongings in plastic bags. ( I now have to treat our belongings) ● I have a steamer which I think I'd been fine without. ●I bought bed bug and egg kill (Harris) for the resistant bedbugs. ● wash and dried all bedding ● I bought bed bug interceptors ● I sprayed an insecticide to kill them and a residual (suspend sc)/ and gentrol) ● I put cimexa around the baseboards,inside the interceptors and under the bed on the floor. No bites in about a months... I'm a city bus driver and this coronavirus has my schedule on the fritz so I haven't been able to completely kill the hiding BB's,I haven't seen any but i know i have to treat our belongings... THANX Joel for all the great advice, I have been actually sleeping peacefully like before we had any issues...

I created this trap just as you showed. After the first night, I trapped two adult bugs and five babies. The babies were almost invisible. If the baby powder hadn't been in the bottom of the glass they wouldn't have been visible at all. This trap works like crazy. I'm adding more sugar to the bottle and I'm setting it back up. This trap is cheap, and incredibly effective. It's cheap enough that I can create one for every room. Thank you so much for this. I thought I had these evil things under control, but this trap showed me there's still something to deal with. Thank God!

ChevyDude65 I made the trap also a few days ago. I did everything exactly as he did. I even used 2 1/2 cups of sugar to give it a extra kick. I've had it up for 2 nights now and I've cought NOTHING ! About a week before hand esteemed my couch put down de and that seemed to help a tremendous amount. But here in there we were seeing 1 maybe two after steaming the couch and putting down the d e we have saw probably 6 and we caught them but along the way I must have missed a egg or two because now we have seen approximately 10215 little clear ones we've also caught them. We back you everyday we even went out and bought a different vacuum cleaner the kind that holds a bag we also bought a handheld vacuum cleaner where you can get up in the couch very well. Knock on wood the couch is the only place that we have seen them but it is a big dark dark brown Earth color sectional I never knew a couch had so many cracks and crevices. Anyways I'm waiting on a cimexa kit I've also used bed lamb. I know I made the device correctly why am I not catching anything? I woke up today with no bites and I am one who gets bit really bad it's like I am the one they prefer there is two adults in the household that's it. But when I made the device I watched the yeast rise I used two and a half cups of sugar I sealed around the tube just to be sure I even put a piece in the tube to help got it and hold it in place I put baby powder in the bottom of the cup the cup is not a shot glass I could not find one around the house so I used a glass like you would give a child maybe a 4-ounce glass I have the two right at the bottom what am I doing wrong? How long did it take you to start catching them? I am praying that I have rid The House of the bed bugs we have our clothes in containers they cannot get into we had put them in the dryer on high heat before hand we cleaned thoroughly everyday please tell me what I did wrong

KrAzYs KaRmA I know you posted this question nine months ago but I just seen it. The bed bugs bite everyone, they just want blood, they don’t care the person. The reason you have bites and they “don’t” is because everyone’s skin reacts differently, so the bites are irritating your skin and not theirs.

If you mix baking soda and boric acid together and sprinkle it around your bed I put it all over the floors and left it down for 3 days then I vacuumed it up but the longer the better...it slows down the infestation and it kills them because the backing soda activates the boric acid and makes it more powerful so as they walk thru it...it eats up their legs. take all of your clothes to the laundry down to curtains and wash in very hot water at least 2x then make sure to dry everything. I believe if yu also add backing soda and boric acid to water in a spray bottle it would be good in your car and spraying anything wood under neath the legs the love wood and the also hide behind pictures on walls.

For those who prefer written steps, I have summurized the man's procedure into steps, maybe not as perfect as watching him do it so correct me if I am wrong and i will make edits. I have just finished doing this and have placed it in my bedroom after using harris bed bug kit, but i also wanted to try this man's method after applying harris chemicals, maybe i won't trap as many bugs soon because harris kit took out most of them (at least for today), and they will probably appear in the coming days/weeks. Will wait and see and share update in the comment to hopefully help others. 1- 12 oz cup of water (half filled= 6oz) of warm water 40 C 2-add one table spoon of sugar into the cup 3- add 1/4 oz of active dry yeast 4- stir solution well 5- wait 10 mins 6- jug with 2 quarts (8 cups) of warm water 40 C 7- add 2 and 1/2 cups of sugar to jug 8-stir the sugar and water solution and dissolve the sugar 9- introduce (add) the yeast, sugar and water solution cup from earlier steps to the jug 10- stir the jug again very well. 11-use a funnel to pour the final solution into an empty 2 litter coke bottle 12- make a small hole on the center of the bottle's cap to fit in a 1/4 inch OD | .170 inch ID plastic tube (make sure the hole is not too big, just enough to get the tube through) 13- after inserting the tube (should not be inserted too much just enough to get on the other side maybe 1/2 cm.) seal the hole from both sides using glue 14- make sure that tube remains dry and never touch the solution, the idea is to make CO2 generated by the solution to flow through it 15- get a small glass shot cup and wrap it with paper towel, this will make it easy for the bug to climb on it (they can't climb well on class) 16- trim the paper towels with scissors to the neck (use the top of the glass as reference) 17- put the other end of the plastic tube inside the small shot cup (might need to apply small tape to prevent it from poping out from the glass) 18- the idea is that the CO2 flowing from the bottle into the tube and then into the class will make bugs attracted to it, they will climb on the glass (made easy by paper towels) and when they reach the top of the class they may get themselves into the cup with no or little chance for them to climb back up and get out due to the slippery nature of glass.

i found your site and watched the video on the Bed Bug Trap, I constructed the trap just as you described and low and behold it worked just as you said it would. I've caught about 60 bed bugs in it, then the pest control guy for the apartment complex came in, I showed him the trap and showed him your video and he had never heard of your trap before and was amazed at how well it worked and wanted to know how to construct one. He sprayed the bedroom with a solution that is not harmful to my cats on Friday. Today i checked the bed bug trap and for the first night there were no bugs in it. I am elated to think i might be able to sleep in my bed again. I've ordered the CimeXa and plan on applying it to stop any future infestations. Thank you so much for putting your video out where poor people can see it and get some help with the bugs.

I too think his video is a great gift. I am handicapped but I can handle some of this. Do be aware that re-infestation happens easily. Try to use metal bed frames ideally the type that are made that you do not need a box spring under your mattress. Clean your bed frame with rubbing alcohol. It helps too!

Shot glass easily tips over. Hose keeps coming out of it also. Ramp/climbing method not optimal. Hole in cap not optimal. Thanks, finally, for the accurate recipe though. My technique - square bottom 2-liter clear water jug sitting inside of cut bottom of 1 gallon vinegar jug, hose rubber banded to outside of the 2 liter bottle going down towards bottom, sticky ace bandage wrap-around the vinegar jug bottom trap (can also use cotton medical tape), finally a drill gun/bit for the hole. Now that is World Class!

Thanks to advice from your videos I was able to rid myself of a very frustrating bed bug problem without ever getting a professional exterminator. I did not have a heavy infestation, but it went on for a long time, and even followed me (in a raw wooden futon frame, I think) when I moved to another state. Hard to put in words how stressful and discouraging it was. You mentioned that bedbugs can hide in cracks as narrow as a credit card. I found some deep in a joint on my futon frame that had a gap even narrower. Steam, CimeXa, and yeast traps did the trick, I did not encase my mattress and box spring (I usually sleep in a regular bed but had the futon and frame mostly for guests.) I have not had any bites in two years now. I thank you also for speaking clearly and sensibly, and getting straight to the point. I am so grateful.

@ScoutAdams

EsBob Ravenscraft Kroger’s in Texas and Ralph’s in California have about a 5’ X 5’ white cooler labeled “dry ice” full of various amounts of prepackaged dry ice. Brilliantly they usually place them after checking out (why do stores position items for sale after checkout and make you take the time to recheck-out when you discover it’s next to the bagged ice cubes you also forgot?). Wear gloves handling dry ice and don’t build a trap with 20lb of dry ice and sleep there in the same room. That could easily produce a life threatening amount of CO^2 gas - especially if you sleep in the same room an we’re low to the ground. After about 10 checkouts without dry ice, I finally bit the bit the bullet and got sry ice and stood in line again. I bout about 2lb of dry, stuck it in the fridge until ready to build an upside down dog dish trap I red about. Unfortunately the dry ice had completely dissipated. I was surprised because on First Class flights international flights desserts are usually ice cream sundaes. The ice cream is packed in metal container that is not cooled and the dry ice lasts for hours. In fact if you don’t separate the dry ice and ice cream a few hours before serving, ice cream remains “rock-solid” and can not be serve. I make bread and am familiar with yeast in large bottles and will gives the gentleman’s clever trap a try tonight.

Bed bugs are not white. Plus they're not the only insects attracted to CO2. Books could be clear Brown dark red burgundy or crimson red color. They are usually oval shaped with the dark black spot right in the middle. If you have bed bugs cleaning your house will not do anything you have to call and extermit them. I'm sure this trap catches a lot of them but it won't catch them all.

@9tophat
@9tophat 5 лет назад
@@ronaldperry9032 DE is Diatomaceous Earth. It is a very fine powder used to kill bed bugs. It is not poisonous. It's a sort of calcium powder. When bed bugs crawl through it, the DE gets on them and dries out the exoskeleton of the bedbug, killing it. It's pretty inexpensive. You can buy it at some hardware stores or on Amazon. That's why you spread the DE around the lure trap, so they walk through it and it kills them faster when they get trapped.

@ProfessorScout 5 лет назад
@@ronaldperry9032 hey there's a product called CIMEXA that works way better than DE or "diatomaceous earth". Its cheap, completely non toxic and safe for kids and pets. Its basically silica gel dust that kills them in the same way DE does (cutting up their exoskeleton and dehydrating them)

Great job using some of the current terminology and adding details that most people would skip just to shorten the video. Don't skip this video because you want to find the same info in a three minute video. Thank you, Joel! This project was actually fun to put together. I have a tip for making the hole in the top of the bottle lid- find a nail that has a head the same size as the tubing, then grip the nail with pliers at the pointed end and hold the head of the nail over a candle flame for a few seconds. When the nail head is hot enough, it will push right through the plastic lid like it's going through butter. You will end up with a hole that is the perfect size, with smooth edges. Another tip: If you don't want to wait for the silicone sealant to cure, you can use electrical tape. The way you use the tape is to wrap it around the part of the tubing that goes into the bottle cap. Start at about 3" from the end of the tube and wrap three times, continue wrapping moving closer to the end and wrap two times, and then about an inch from the end you wrap the tape just once. Then you poke the tube DOWNWARD into the hole in the top of the bottle cap, twisting the cap to work it further up the tube. The tape will be thicker further up because of the three wraps. It should get stuck midway and form a tight seal. If the cap slides up too easily, try again with more wraps. And just one more thing... I couldn't get the paper towel to stay up to the edge of the shotglass with the rubber band. It kept slipping down. I ended up cutting a thin strip of duct tape which I wrapped around the top of the glass just below the rim with the sticky part of the tape facing outward, then I carefully lined up the edge of the paper towel at the lip of the shotglass and wrapped it around the tape, securing it with a tiny piece of tape. This method kept the paper towel in position near the top of the shotglass, even after being handled many times as I moved it around.

Success! I made your "Gold Standard Trap" out of the large soda bottle, a piece of tubing, a short wide 8oz canning jar wrapped in a papertowel held on with a rubberband. I used strawberry jam to plug up the hole around the tube! :) For the first week it didn't catch anything. I got impatient so I added some chicken liver to the bottom of the glass to entice them with the smell of blood. 2 nights later (last night) I caught one! I want to add that I also had placed clear packing tape across my heat/AC vents (because they were blowing cold AC on me in my sleep so I'd done that long before the bedbug situation) and there were 2 large ones stuck on the tape as well. That's a great reminder that we need to treat our HVAC vents as well. I don't know exactly how though, as the Cimexa has already irritated my throat and lungs big time from dusting the rest of my house/belongings and I don't want the powder to be coming out all over me the next time I turn on the heat/AC...Any thoughts Joel?

I thank you for your video's. Its clear your are a gifted, patient teacher. I wanted to mention that bendable soda straws joined together with duct tape make excellent tubing. Also, the commenters may have missed it, but CO2 is actually heavier than air. Once it reaches the bottom of the shot glass it lingers in there for quite some time. CO2 suffocates the Bed bugs. Essentially they die from lack of Oxygen.

This will work! I also have advice after ridding our home 3 yrs ago and trying many things. I dealt with a really bad infestation. When we lifted just my other brothers mattress, it was like a wave of bugs from the movie The Mummy, but a light brown. 1) Your responsibility: My best advice is to buy a cover for all your beds. Check and remove junk very THOUROUGHLY around the room (found a few rogues in my shoes in my closet). Patch up and fill any holes in your walls. We caulked around our power outlets (a lot were commuting through them) along with putting the child caps and we made sure if we used an outlet, to have all three holes occupied or use a surge protector. Check the curtains/ top of the blinds, and even pets kennels. Check your dressers and take them apart too. We found some on the base and just decided to caulk to limit the ease of their travel. Using a laundromat is risky because of spreading them and you may even bring bedbugs back into your home...but we burnt out our dryer...so we had to buy a new one ( It is the most effective way to kill them and you will see the eggs and all other stages trapped in lint trap). Move your bed away about inch from curtains, walls, and remove everything away from under your bed (if you store it outside make sure you clean/check well) but move it a few feet away so that way you lure the bed bugs out to feed (it will reduce the chances of them staying in your stuff under bed. Also, use cheap white sheets/ pillow covers and lightly colored curtains to easily spot eggs, intermediate, and adult stages. They may even hide in pillows if the stitching isnt good or even in pillow cover. Also check the roof and lighting fixtures. 2) How to spot them: Usually I found tiny black spots on the bed and walls. Also if you wakeup with blood on your skin/clothes you may have rolled over a bed bug. Unlike anyone in my home, I could actually smell something from the bed bugs. When you start trying to go after them some (mostly females) would stop moving and raise their head up (like in the lion king) and it would smell sweet and all of them started running. So you may be able to smell them alarming the others... 3) advice about feeding: They usually do it at night when the lights are off. But if they are hungry (especially the early stages) they will go out during the day. They can also see light, so if you shine a flashlight they tend to hide. Also, most of the time you dont feel them feeding, but once you catch one you may learn how to respond to that little tingly felling(not as painful as a mosquito). But if you get a lot of bites or it is an adult you will see this zit like mound and it usually doesnt go away for a few days to a week. 4) treatment: I highly recommend using what is in this video! Using the diatomaceous earth to kill these things didnt seem to work. Instead it really worsened my asthma and give me a scratchy throat. Best to use pest control, putting your clothes in high heat setting (look up on internet for time). Make sure you use cheap white sheets/ pillow covers. Why? So you can easily spot blood and feces (black tiny spots). And try to be simple. Dont have 5 sheets folded up. They will sometimes "sleep" in the folds of blanket. It may look ugly with all the body oils but the benefit of it being cheap and to easily spot them is a great advantage. Also when you cover outlets, make sure you have the person spray in them because they will be trapped there and the adults can live for 1.5 years (maybe longer) so make sure you dont forget because you dont want to deal with this again. 5) How to choose a pest technician: We did all of this after we paid a man to treat our home. We used the fancy freeze method but it was not as effective (and cost 1500) and the tech was not thorough. We had them for another 2 miserable months before we met another pest guy who used just a liquidand we had him spray in/out of dressers, inside outlets (then closed them), all the corners, closet, near window, top part of our clean curtains/blinds, dog kennel and around the entire frame of the bed. Problem solved in two weeks. And we had a follow up treatment to make sure after the two weeks for only 50 dollars! Some other advice about pest control ... we hired a company that had the cool sign, vehicle, and the were in the middle price range with the cool freeze treatment (Orkin wanted 2k!!) So we thought we would get our moneys worth. No we didn't... we did get all the bed covers for a good deal (200 for 5 beds). The second guy we had agreed to let us tell him were to spray, and we warned him it may take an hr. But we made a deal and that was the key. If the business wont work for you, then why pay 500 to a 1000? I wish this video was out when I had them. Every little bit helps. Sorry for such a long description but I really want to help. These bugs made my life in college horrible for 5 months, because of lack of sleep, constantly waking up and checking myself and my brother with a flashlight at night, and having to hunt everyday. I hope this helps and good luck!

Terry Miller did you ever happen to get the name of what he used? I would greatly appreciate it unfortunately I am battling these little blood suckers myself! My body is wore out I cannot sleep I feel like the Living Dead I sleep with a flashlight in my hand and a bottle of 91% rubbing alcohol for some reason I am the one who keeps getting bit! When the person laying right next to me is been bit maybe a couple of times but they are using me for a full course dinner! We just recently found out that we had them I even went to the hospital because after I cut the grass so she told me I had chiggers and gave me a cream to put all over me for 12 hours. I specifically asked her if they could be bed bug bites she said no she was 100% sure they were not bed bug bites well I sure would like to see that doctor right about now because here it is a couple weeks later and at least now I know what the problem is when I went to the hospital I told her I feel like something is biting me but I don't see anything well I guess one must have made its way into the home and it must have been a female and had babies because mainly what I am finding our little bitty ones and they act angry or aggressive like I keep tape around if I see one I will stick tape to it and it can be on the tape like it is playing dead and all I have to do is open my mouth and barely breathe and it goes crazy! I have found a couple of not real big ones but pretty good size I'm hoping that those were the ones that had to have the babies. And I'm hoping to find a solution before the little ones have babies! I think I'm going to try the method in the video and see what happens I mean it can't do much harm at least I won't have to be up with tape alcohol in a flashlight and I had been sleeping on my couch so now I'm stuck there because we do not want to spread them to the bed hopefully they're not in I just in the living room area the couch is a dark brown I have put white sheets down all over the couch to make things easier to spot but I pray that what he does in this video really works I have yet to flip the couch upside down and cut the bottom I'm scared to death on what I'm going to find but I have to find the root of the problem and fast because the pest control company that I spoke with black Dymond could not get to the house any sooner than Tuesday. Any info would be greatly appreciated especially if you got the name of the spray that she paid $50 for and it took care of her problem. I am disabled my check isn't much I can't afford to pay a couple thousand dollars to get rid of these things if I had it my way I would set the house on fire and walk out but naked because from what I've read it's almost impossible to get rid of these things! I pray that this man showing this video words or even helps somewhat enough to draw them away from us. I hope you got rid of your problem and if you didn't good luck our government needs to do something about this epidemic bring back DDT or something If you happen to know could you please send me a friend request on Facebook or send me a message to my email account at Krazyskarma@hotmail.com

REVISION TO MY LAST ENTRY: I was not satisfied with my lack of results so I built another trap this time with a larger welcome mat but the biggest change in my strategy was to use a heating pad on "LOW" underneath the pit fall to emulate body heat which they also sense. This time I did capture a few so that may be the ticket, all I know is that it worked for me. Happy hunting

Wow! This trap works like a charm! My adult stepson ended up with an infestation in his room, which grossed him out so bad that he couldn't deal with it properly. After doing little for 2-3 months or more, he pretty much powdered everything in his room with DE and flew the coop, staying at a friend's house. His "pets" came out to our living room looking for food since their normal prey had left. That was when I personally had to get involved. After using the gold medal trap overnight in his room, the entire bottom of the shot glass is filled with a layer of dead bedbugs. I put a small amount of DE in my pitfall trap, as it was the closest thing I had to talcum powder. I am in the process of bagging up all my stuff in my living room, as other videos I have watched have explained that getting rid of them completely involves making spots they can hide non-existent and treating those you locate, including outlets and base boards. It is a work in progress, but this trap is so much better than things sold to deal with bedbugs. Thank you so much for this informative video, and keep up the good work!

I know it’s 5 years later since this video was posted, but I’m very grateful. I found the bedbugs in my daughters room on all 4 corners of her box spring. I vacuumed them up, sprayed the mattress & box spring, and then used bed bug encasements. When my daughter went back to sleep, I stayed up to keep an eye out, & sure enough, some tiny ones that were hidden way down in her headboard were crawling on her comforter. So I moved her into my room, went to Walmart to buy the active yeast & tubing, and came home to construct this trap. We only caught 1 bed bug on night one but that let me know I did make it correctly. Hopefully it’s a sign that I don’t have anymore. I will also be spreading D. Earth since I couldn’t find any Cimexa.

My grandmother - who I KNOW everyone says this about theirs - was a very special person. She had NO health problems, and aside from being old (95), she livednalone and wasn't even frail. No walker... nothing. She died from bedbugs, and as this man says, it has NOTHING to with one's cleanliness, (in my grandmother's case she was IMMACULATE), and aside from going to the store and doing chores in her neighbourhood, she was a homebody. This is very painful for me to recall - and it happened about a decade ago this month. I'm doing it solely so no one ever has this happen; I discovered them one Sunday when me mother were going too meet up and spend the afternoon with her (I'm not gonna go into details - just the basics). When my mother arrived, I grabbed her as she came in the apartment and told her. I told her NOT to tell her mother (she did), and I said it's SO bad, we MUST do something IMMEDIATELY. I could hear my grandmother - very upset - thinking it was due to her... For the next (I can't believe this) several weeks, I kept saying, 'well?' to my mother. She didn't understand. She wouldn't listen to me. Finally, she tells me she found someone, and this is what's going to happen; he's going to come on Monday, and whille my mother sits in the lobby with her mother, the man will spray. Then, grandma goes home, and the following day, it's repeated. I said this sounds nuts - you CAN'T have grandma go right back in to a freshly treated apartment. She wouldn't listen.... Sigh. Tuesday, I got a call from my mother; 'have you spoken with Grandma, today? She hasn't answered the phone'. The minute she said this, I KNEW what had happened. I felt sick. 😔 I have to stop there. I think you can figure out the rest. I miss her SO much. She was fine. FINE, just -, as she, herself would say, 'an old lady', that's all. Bedbugs are terrible, but they ARE treatable. I don't know much about this gentlemen, but he does say they're designed to be non-toxic. That's good. Please; keep the area well ventilated. Don't be embarrassed to discuss this with others - please! Make sure you don't do what my mother did - and try to look for an 'easy fix' for her mother. It is tragic. We don't speak about this - and never will. I feel I sometimes have to speak to people so hopefully no one will lose a loved one (even the 4-legged kind). . Have a safe and happy holidays and a good new year's. 🎄🕎🎉🥂

Spraying the whole mattress, box spring and bed frame and heating it up with a hair blower on those tight spots that are more harder to reach to just to be sure. Supposedly you do this every 14 days to keep them out. I kinda went the extra mile and placed small plastic containers on the bed legs too. So we haven’t been bit ever since and it seems like we got rig of them for good. I think it works 👍🏼 you just have to stay on top of those bastards.

My point, though is that Walmart takes advantage of its employees one way-by allowing only for part-time hours which means by law they don't have to provide any kind of basic employee insurance and do to turnover very seldom have to give a raise. I'm sure Thats only a few examples so please everybody if you can avoid buying anything at Walmart it's a good idea. I have one within walking distance and I never go there.

It absolutely works! In addition, Mr. Williams clearly spells out the fundamentals so that people can improvise as we did. I have a friend whose apartment is full of the blood-suckers, and she had a few of the things mentioned, I got her the dry yeast, we used sugar, and a Gatorade bottle. Not having the tubing, I cut a small hole and used a bendy straw to insert into the shotglass. The straw didn't reach the ground, though, so I improvised by putting the shotglass in the middle of a small pile of clothes. I came back the next morning and voila! The glass was full of the creepy crawlies--happily, many were nearly-invisible babies. We used a small bottle, so we only needed about a 3rd of the yeast. Luckily, as an experienced bread maker, I know exactly what he meant by it having to be the right temperature. When you see the foam, it's fermenting. As he mentions, make sure that you leave room for expansion. I am of the opinion that his small-bottle technique works best and we plan on using many more in different rooms. Refrigerate the yeast to keep it alive; give it plenty of sugar to ferment and I can't imagine a better, safer method. We also put down borax, which dries them out. DE is a highly dangerous element and if you breathe the hard, sharp crystals, they will cut into your lungs and create scars. Thank you Mr. Williams!

I get that smaller bottle traps work better since the solution is probably more concentrated. But, for the sake of my paranoia, if I wanted to go with the bigger bottle traps, would it be OK to add more than Mr. William's advised amount of yeast and sugar?

@@Tit0Matic I'm not sure, since I didn't try it, but I did see that a shot glass will fill up and they will climb up on each other. I put in a little baking soda at the bottom and that worked. It took a while to get them under control. Good luck!

My sister runs a boarding house and after battling cockroaches for a year she thought everything was ok. About a week ago one of her residents came out of his room with bed bugs crawling on him. The residents are responsible for cleaning their own rooms and are also told to report any kind of a pest problem should they arise. Imagine the horror she felt when she went to inspect his room and found it completely infested with bed bugs crawling on just about every visible surface. She was going to have an exterminator come out and heat treat the room. This was going to cost a small fortune. I told her to let me explore other options and after much time online I came across the 'Williams method' and it sounded right by all the things I had read about bed bugs so I made the trap as suggested with a few tweaks of my own. 1) I used 1/2 inch tubing which is twice the size. 2) Because I used larger tubing I doubled the yeast and sugar so it would really pump out the co2 . 3) Because I used larger tube I had to tape so construction wire (2 length's, 1 on each side of the tube) to keep the tube from rolling back and tipping the shot glass. I also used the recommended talcum powder. I set the trap at about 7:00 pm and came back 12 hours later and let me tell you the shot glass was 1/2 full of bed bugs of all sizes. I doused them with rubbing alcohol, then put them in a sandwich bag (ziplock of course. The bed bugs filled the bag from one side to the other and about an inch high. Now the second night only about 200 bugs. I reactivated the trap by boiling water in a large pot 1/2 full then placing the bottle in the hot water and on the third night nearly as many as on the first night. I will be keeping this vigil for one month straight and then we go in and clean the hell out of that room. To be on the safe side we are also setting traps in every room of the house to see if they have traveled anywhere. Thanks for the excellent advice. This trap really works.

This method WILL NOT knock out your bedbug problem. But the advice is time-tested, spot-on. Patience Persistence Practice ..is also necessary. Right along with discipline. This method provides a 24 hour sentinel. But like all guards, there are gaps in the sentry line. I got rid of them by placing a foam layer on the floor with two large pieces of plastic. All three are virgin. No prior use, therefore, no contamination. I spread the tarp (two plastic piece - taped at the seam between them) on the floor. Bugs can't climb on plastic (IDK about store-bought tarps.) I made the plastic so large that my bedding couldn't breach the plastic parameter. I then taped the foam into 55 gallon trash bags - taped to fit. Then I put a fitted sheet on the foam and made the bed. I used all-white bedding. I checked every morning in the crevasses. I only saw one bug the next morning; after that, zero, for eight months. That's right, PATIENCE. I saw them during that eight months in my recliner and couch. I had no pets (do now), so no "cheat-feeding." DO NOT tape your plastic to the walls. (Think about it...okay.) Bugs can crawl DOWN too. You must spread your plastic in an open area so the bug has to climb. If you fold the plastic under, that ridge is plenty high enough to prevent a bedbug to climb. You don't have to prop the plastic up (bugs climb props too.), but if it makes the psychological condition of having bugs in your home easier to sleep with, place your props *inside* the plastic parameter. Technically, you are placing your bed like a raft in a sea of plastic sheeting (taped CLEAN trash bags work too.) As the months reigned on, I noticed the bugs were getting thinner...then smaller...then not at all. I checked my bedding for blood (hence the white bedding) or crevasses for bugs (not many because the foam is square - the fitted sheet is the only place they prefer to hide. Had I found them, I would have placed all my bedding in the dryer (120º will kill them.) Of course, wash your bedding every two weeks as normal (discipline.) YOU MUST check your plastic trash bags (that are covering the foam) when your finger/toe nails scrapes against the plastic for holes. The *tiniest* holes lets in the tinest bugs -- which grows to adult bugs and defeats the purpose. Scotch tape is perfect for patching - don't be afraid to use it. FOR THOSE TOO STUBBORN TO NOT USE A BED> place double-sided tape around the legs of the bed. Know that the bedding will ALWAYS find a way to droop to the floor OR the bed will come in contact with the wall -- defeating your best efforts. Also, place talcum (diatomaceous earth) in a cup and place your bed legs in the cup. This method dries out many types of insects...in a few weeks to months. Meanwhile, they are still having babies....unless they are trapped in a cup. Your drooping bedding is a by-pass ladder of the tape and cups. >>>120º+ will kill them. Your dryer will kill them. >>>Your washer on "hot" will kill them. Your bathtub will kill them, 120º water will also help drown them. >>>Your hair dyer will kill them... if you are smart enough to not let it blow the bugs in every direction -- that means put the setting on "low." You will blow them in ALL directions so it is best to do this outside. Bedbugs do not survive well "in the wild." This is the most fun method as you get to see just how fast they die with such heat (about 20 seconds in 120º heat and instantly in 130º+ heat.) This also allows you to push heat into seams and heat fabric that they may be taking shelter. Try not to forget your fabric is flammable - keep a cup of water handy. The dryer will also stress them. When they get hungry from all that panic from the hair dryer, they will be looking for food -- that would be you, your children, Fido, etc. THAT is where Mr. Williams Miracle patented Sentinels come in. Those sentinels are neon signs blinking, "Co-ome a-and ge-et i-it!!!" And they will. The dryer also kills the eggs (hence, "like all guards, there are gaps in the sentry line.") Using a lint roller will speed-up the process by collecting the bugs as they emerge from the seams so your hair dryer doesn't blow them away. >>>Your oven will kill them. When you have something to give to someone and you can't submerge it in water, then your oven may help. 150º will not melt crayons -- this one I have demonstrated to people often. 20 minutes in the oven is usually enough, but a card board box of toys takes longer as well as a box of baseball/pokemon cards. (Experiment with using your oven.(PRACTICE). Use an oven thermometer to accurately gauge your temperature (some paper is flammable at slightly higher temperatures. And do not put batteries, spray cans, electronics in the oven. Bad things will happen. >>>Outside will kill them. Moving furniture to the garage or storage shed will cause them to starve to death or leave seeking CO2. Since their chances of finding such is slim-to-nothing, they will die. Bedbugs have very few natural predators - even spiders do not prefer them. This method works well with the hair dryer. >>>The car wash pressure hoses kill them. But, like all of these methods, this one may not work as expected. But it sure does stress them and kills the eggs if hot enough (again, the oven thermometer.) Bleach and CLR will kill them. Don't do this. This will kill you too. This is nothing to fool around with. I put my military gas mask on because this siht will asphyxiate a human within a few breaths. The first time I tried this, I learned real quick to open the window and GTFO! So don't try this inside anymore. But I put my furniture in a plastic tarp with a hose running to a bucket inside. I duct-tape to seal it. Then I pour the bleach in, then I put on my gas mask, then pour the CLR in. Phosgene gas is a real acid to lung tissue of all types and it is nothing to experiment with. It will damage lungs within two breaths, so don't do this. It also creates pressure within the confined space of the well-sealed tarp and, like the hair dryer, will push it's way into the seams. Stick with the hair dryer and lint roller. Try not to use your vacuum cleaner...the eggs may attach to the inside of the hose and continue the infestation. Submerge your hose in the bathtub afterward to drown/scald those eggs. Do the same with your vacuum bucket too. Just because the bugs got sucked up and twirled around, doesn't mean they are dead...they have exo-skeletons for a reason. They also have no problem slipping between the cracks of your vacuum bucket/bag and looking for a CO2 lunch. Bedbugs can go dormant for up to 18 months IF they are adult, healthy, well-fed, in a cool. comfortable, relatively humid environment...you know, a laboratory testing how long bedbugs last. My last infestation was 8 months. I have a hair-dryer now...they ain't gonna last that long.

thank you Joel for your interesting video. A friend of mine has them at her house. The CO2 traps work amazingly well. What I find out is that even though bedbugs can go dormant for 9 months, they're only going to go dormant if they think there's no food. The presence of co2 (including these traps) just means for them that they won't go dormant since there's food available. I plan to keep these traps around her house regularly till they're all gone. thanks again!

I have had the bb's. I wish I had this info at the time. I did get a steam cleaner and steamed the mattresses and frames and box springs every three days. I also washed my drapes and blankets then ran them in the dryer. I have wood flooring and used roach proof powder swept into the flooring, let set for 24 hours than vacuumed up. Be sure to empty your vacuum or change the bag immediately afterwards since they can hatch in the bag. It was nightmarish but finally got rid of them. I don't let anyone bring in blankets or clothes to avoid a reinfestation. Also, clean any thrift store purchases before you bring them inside. Again, great trap and very detailed instructions. Thank you.

Great info. Watched your other plastic wrapping video too. Not sure if you mentioned this (maybe you did) but I heard someone else say that the CO2 will not work on critters that are already in the mattress. The CO2 works mainly for critters that are in the room but haven't made it to the bed yet. Hence one big reason for wrapping the mattress and box spring in plastic.

Living in a rooming house for disabled persons. We all have a small pension and most of the money goes for rent. We have a massive bedbug infestation. We cannot afford an exterminator. We tried sprays, steamers, vacuuming, washing everything in boiling water and nothing has worked. Landlord bought 12 cans of spray, but it did absolutely nothing. I've subbed to your channel and have shared this video with the other tenants. Thank you for the informative video. I will let you know how this works. Keeping my fingers crossed! Thought about calling the health dept but can't take the chance of us all being homeless. Lawyers want $$$ which being on disability, we cannot afford. We are all hoping your trap will help us. HEEHEE I found this one by accident a few years ago. I have a hobby of making Artisan wine. While fermenting, you want it in a cool, dark place. There is no such thing as cool in Florida, but I was finding a concentration of bugs in the closet in one apartment I moved into. I added a hose to the vapor lock into a styrofoam cup with about half water and a squirt of dishwashing liquid. Next morning, I had a thick layer of bugs in the bottom of the cup. They float in plain water, but sink if you add detergent. Four gtallons of wine with a high tollerance yeast often works for more than two months before it stops and the wine is ready to siphon. I wasn't catching anymore bugs a couple weeks before the wine was done.

DE takes a very long time to dry insects. It is best used to carry back to a nest and rub-off on the eggs. It is a more expensive alternative to talcum powder. Try this test: Place a bug(s) in a tupperware (etc) container (lid not necessary) at night. Wake up and check the container = dead bug. They just give up when they exhaust their "alarm" pheromone. Try it. I had a pest-control license a little over ten years ago. So try putting a bug in a container of some sort and find out. That is even cheaper than talcum! ;-)

Ya know,I made one about a yr ago. Take and cut the two liter about right where the neck starts to form say maybe the shoulder. Turn it upside down and and fit it to the rest of the bottle. This way,Once she falls over the edge..she won't be able to crawl out and will continuously slide into the center in turn making her drop into the fermenting solution. She won't be able to release the pheromone or even have time to. She will crawl straight over the edge,slide down it and fall right into the center,then down into the water and be stuck and essentially drown. Just a thought,I caught quite a few this way too. It's the same thing,but different design. Yours actually creates a focal point for the co2 which is awesome,I'm just trying to think of a way to get them to follow indefinitely and get screwed. Perhaps a very small amount of water sugar and yeast in the bottom of the shot glass. possibly have another container that the tube runs into the side of that they can crawl up...with some kind of substance in the bottom that kills or severely incapacitates them immediately. I know with the knowledge you have,you can definitely come up with a not only gold...but Platinum trap ...tha Bedbuginator or something..LoL

+Jon Carr Impressions use boric acid for them to fall in.

+Gossip and Glam . Boric Acid won't work on bedbugs because they are blood obligate insects. You are in the presence of a master. I suggest you research your comments and vet them for reliability before you post them. I do not suffer fools quietly. Boric Acid may work on a cockroach, but will never work against a bedbug. I just told you why. Can you figure out why you suggestion is false with regards to bedbugs?

I didn't say anything about using boric acid to kill them I said put them in the trap to fall in. I am fully aware of what these things do, I said boric acid because that's like torture to be trapped in something like that. I don't want it to just fall into the trap, I want the thing to suffer the way it made me suffer-boric acid will cause dehydration to it's body and it will disintegrate. Boric acid also causes infertility which is great just in case one gets away, yes they are "blood obligate" but if they walk on or in boric acid they will die. They have to walk through the acid to get to you.

I'm not going to use just the Co2 I'm going to do things in conjunction so I can attack them from every angle, everywhere they turn for refuge it's going to be a serious problem for them. I want them to feel discomfort and exhaustion. I hate bedbugs.

Gossip and Glam . sorry for being so harsh. I see now that there was a reason why you suggested boric acid. My apologies.

Thank you so very much for this, sir! I am in the midst of professional treatment for "a few bed bugs". Not even an infestation yet and I was getting bitten so badly that I had to take antihistamines to deal with the allergic reaction I had (skin rashes and throat closed up). They are coming to spray for a 3rd time today, it feels hopeless because the interceptor traps, mattress and box spring covers plus professional treatment cost me my savings and then some and it doesn't seem to be helping them much. I got bitten again several times yesterday while doing yoga on my bedroom floor at 6 a.m. I havent slept right in 2 months. This video has given me a glimmer of hope. Your instructions are concise and easy to understand. Thank you again!!!

Anytime you’re getting but that much and there’s enough to notice them, there’s an infestation. There’s no such thing as a few bed bugs by the time you get bit up that much. You’re allergic to them and you shouldn’t be tricked into believing this snake oil salesman would really help.

If you have questions, feel free to ask. I’ve been doing this for over a decade and it sounds like there’s pyrethroid resistant bedbugs in your home. You shouldn’t have to treat three times in two months. Either they have no clue what they’re doing or the bugs are resistant.

After watching the video I went and purchased some items not on hand to make the trap. I'm making two. I did buy the Fleishman's Active Dry Yeast. Some items I had to "Jimmy Rig" to make. I had some old tubing from a beast pump that I used. I fed it through two flex straws to get it to stay away from the jar. I used two small salt/pepper shakers because I don't have shot glasses. I wrapped the jars in athletic tape that I bought from the dollar store and wrapped the top in athletic tape and duct tape and around the top pf the tube that stick out of the top. I did heat the tip of an Allen wrench for about 30 seconds and placed it on the top of the cap to make a hole which was very easy. I'll come back and let you know what happened. Time of first trap set is 9:40 am. Date is May 23rd 2021. Thank you again Mr Williams! Oh, I placed the trap in front of the bed by the wall making sure nothing is touching. The hose is free standing inside the small jars as well.

I have been battling my friend's bed bugs for years. She finally evicted the losers that were making it so hard. And I've been watching a lot of videos for an all-out assault. Also reading a lot of stuff from universities and scientists. Things from the exterminators all say call them of course. This video actually has information that I haven't found anywhere else. I did not know about the scent glands or the fact that they follow each other that makes things much easier for me. I'm going to heat treat with a couple of construction heaters on either side of each wall of her trailer. It has no carpeting at all and not much furniture or clutter at all even though she's elderly. She's the opposite of a hoarder she throws things away that she probably shouldn't. And then I'm going to cold treat it because we live in Alaska and I can do that while she goes and visits her sister. Then I'm going to caulk it and paint it again. And while I'm doing that to make sure that I did a good enough job I'm going to use these traps to make sure! Thanks!

Thanks for the video! Can't wait to try it out. I can't believe some of the horrible comments on here. You handle them with grace. Keep it up! Ignore the haters!

Joel Z. Williams all jokes aside..did u could maybe make this and put o that tv show..bed bugs trap 2 bed bugs traps for only $19.95 ..like those tv ads..dude thaks you showed pl ...with information and u know about this..ididn't know bedbugs are somewhat blind or have poor vison ..i thought theya re like mosquitioes or drawn in my co2 carbon dixoide.. so does diameacteos earth (DE) works ..and or vacumiing with baby powder or foot powder that got talc in it?
@JoelZWilliams1
@JoelZWilliams1 9 лет назад
No, I don't make any money really. I don't make people watch the commercial ads before they can see the videos. I think that is unethical to profit off of the suffering of poor and disadvantaged people. I do make a little from the RU-vid partnership but it's nothing to brag about. I wish more people would watch the ads and like and subscribe but I won't stop giving them info for free because of greed. I know what it is like to suffer from bedbugs. Sorry, I learned recently that the bedbugs aren't actually blind. An entomologist just corrected me and informed me that they have small compound type eyes, kind of like houseflies. DE is terrible against bedbugs. It's slow, requires weeks to work and is a harmful respiratory irritant. Choose CimeXa or some other amorphous silica gel instead. Vacuuming is really a waste of time. If it makes you feel better then good, but the experts say most bugs are never going to be in the carpet if they have a nice boxspring instead. Thanks for your post.

Well, I want to build an app, but I'm not a coder. I would like to have an app that people can download for cheap and use it to track their infestation and give them helpful steps on how to proceed. I just need a guy or gal who would be willing to donate their time and expertise, for no profit. There's not been any takers. Everyone is out to make a buck.
