if you don't feel like shelling out for spensive-ass bar tape you can just use inntertube underneath regular tape! i cut the tube into strips about as wide as the tape so it's easy to wrap and just do as many layers as you want, as tight as you want (the tighter it's wrapped the less soft it's gonna be obv)

Tour de France 2021...the majority of the teams were riding 25c tubular tires with pressure up to 160psi....The right saddle make a big difference, I like the super weird Selle SMP TRK
23c? In the good old days I used to ride on 19C at 150psi or higher. These days it's 28C at 115psi or 8 BAR. I'm over 70 and not as light as I used to be. Campag Eurus wheels. Selle Italia Flight Titanium. Nice, skinny saddle with thin padding. And a slot up the middle to avoid perineum pressure. Essential for men if they don't want to have zero sensation in their naughty bits for a week or so after a century ride. Good bar tape. Frame design helps too. My #1 bike is Scapin Columbus Foco steel from 1998 with a long top tube and extra long chain stays. Very tight front end with Woundup carbon forks. Plush ride and quick response. Love your channel. Positive, happy people are the best.
Yes I bought a new saddle last season and it was a game changer. Couldn’t believe the difference having a saddle that actually fits my but made. Come spring I’m putting a thicker tape or double taping my bars. I ride 25c tires at 85 psi on my road bike. I like the idea of swapping to 28’s when they wear out. Unfortunately my continental 4000s are lasting forever.
RE: tires - I ride 32mm slick tires on the road, and 40+ on gravel on my Giant TCX cross bike. I'm not any slower on the road with the 32mm tires then I was on my old TCR with 25mm tires and I'm way more comfortable, and I get far fewer flats. I'll never go back to skinny tires.
I'm using 36c road tires on my gravel bike (which is used 100% on road), at 40 to 65 psi with Schrader valves. The usability, safety, durability, and comfort of such a bike is incomparably better than my 25c road bike.
Something I like to do for extra comfort on the bars is to put two sets of bar tape on. Sometimes you can find the tape on sale, why not pick up two sets? My bottom tape is usually the tape you find on sale and then I’ll put the fancy tape on top. Great cushioning!

With your help I've been upgrading my gravel bike for compliance- having a comfy bar tape (with gel inserts in my case) has made a massive difference and as you say is so cheap- also replacing the alloy seatpost with a carbon one (also quite cheap on EBay). Next will be the saddle. I'd love to see you do a dedicated video on tyre pressure- most of the time what works for me (30-40 PSI) is below the minimum pressure recommended by the tyre manufacturer. Please debunk the myth about minimum pressures and give us all a more comfy ride!!

Hi Juliet ... I use a SP12 NCX Seatpost on my Ghost cross/fitness bike for quite some time now and I must say it was one of the best things I added ... especially on longer rides

I am on the verge of splashing out on a brooks C17 saddle as after a 3day epic ride I was rather numb in that region, Double wrapped bar tape is a godsend!

No comment on what it was actually like outside back in early January? One of the wettest winters for years and your eternal enthusiasm made me look twice at the date you posted it. I am just putting my 30 year old Raleigh back on the road and it needs a couple of things to make it more comfortable. New, pristine and unused saddle is done, and I especially liked the £15 steal off eBay once I found out what the retail price was. Tyres stay ... at 700c x 23 at 120 psi! I will soon find out whether 23 at 120 psi or 38 at 80 psi on my other bike is the quicker. New Stronglight chainset with lower gears to suit hilly Somerset is on its way, thanks to the nice people at Harrogate Spa who sold me a new chainset for not much more than the cost of two new rings. Will probably do bar tape as the tape is the ordinary vinyl padded stuff and is white. I do like mudguards and look for the slinkiest and narrowest gloss black ones I can find which hug close to the tyre. Could almost smell the Greggs!!! Haven't had one for months because there isn't one in my town. Do you like Scotch eggs with a soft-boiled egg so the centre is ever-so-slightly runny?
Have you tried a leather saddle (Brooks, etc)? For me, they're far and away the most comfortable things to sit on. Also, I always got a saddle to the post while it's off the bike - just so much easier and you can make the micro adjustments when you put the post into the down tube.
I'm the same. Weigh 70kg run pretty much the same on 28's. Tried 70 again the other day (curiosity after riding at low pressure for a while!) and nearly shook my teeth out!! Straight back to 60 on the front lol
I would think putting the suspension into the seat rails rather than the sea post Would be a lighter system, like they used to do in the old days. Rather than use Steel coil springs in the sea I think they would be able to use something more modern and light in the rails. Sadly this doesn't exist yet
Saddles and only a little time never goes well🤣 Lizard Skin is my go to bar tape, also bloody expensive but comfy, love the colours. My saddle is a Spesh Toupe expert, comfy, not as much as my sofa, but still does a good job. Well done on the bar tape, puts me to shame, must try doing my own too😁👌

Another great video. At 170 Pounds I run 60psi in my "road" tires. But they're also 35c lol. Oh so cozy. Funny about bar tape, I've gone out of my way to find the absolute thinnest bar tape I can. But I also wear gloves for all rides. Nearly everyone I ride with swears by Supacaz

Juliet, would you happen to know how the Phenom saddle compares to the women's specific Specialized Oura saddle? I have the latter on several of my bikes and I wanted another one to put on my new gravel bike but sadly Specialized don't seem to make it anymore. I'm thinking of switching to the Phenom.
Have you been able to ride/test out the Marin Pine Mountain? My friend has a redshift stem on their bike and it adds a little bit of extra cushioning as it acts like a 10mm suspension without affecting performance when climbing.
Thanks for the video. Are you sure that lower tire pressure on the skinny tire (23mm) with high PSI is not any better on speed than the low pressure? and with fatter tires with lower tire pressure? I thought the skinny tire with high PSI reduces rolling resistance on the road contact and cuts through wind better meaning better aerodynamics. I thought I feel my bike is faster with high PSI. I ride bike pretty fast on smooth pavement I get a few bumps here and there but mostly it's nice flat pavement. Let me know your thoughts
All jokes aside. I just got into the road bike scene. What's the hole in the saddle for. ? First thought was a fart release hole. But seriously. Why put a big hole in the seat?
First, seek professional medical advice. You may have to be off the bike for awhile depending on what the doctors say. To lessen shoulder pain on the bike, I'd raise the bars and use a front suspension (switch to riding a mountain bike). Or, you can switch to a recumbent so you have very little weight on your hands.
That would depend entirely on where the pain is and what is causing it. Could be bad positioning, an injury, or even support muscles that aren't strong enough yet. (I have that when I first started.) Best would be to find a good fitter to look at you on your bike and help you figure it out, and don't rule out checking with a doctor or good physical therapist.
