Thanks for this Jimmy ! I bought one a month ago and didn’t want to stripe yet. I saw Pete’s quick connect set up for his bigger mower and wanted to do it for my Timemaster. This is perfect !!
Dude, I love my Checkmate striper but I've been disconnecting it at the support bracket and using Velcro tie straps to keep the connecting bars off the ground. Not a good look and a huge hassle. This is going on my project list for sure. I've only got hand tools but I don't think that'll be a problem. Thanks for putting this out there!
Good work. I called them last week asking about the quick connect as well. I explained that I remove the striper during "fungus season" because I bag the clippings and can't bungee cord the striper up. They said they researched and can't find a way to do it and no further research was being done. Pisser offer
I have quick disconnects on everything I’m able to. Water hoses, power washers, sprinklers.. anything else I can figure out. I’m lazy lol and if I had a striping kit, it’ll be quick disconnect too. Good instructions, bud!
That is awesome. I'm definitely going to try this. I was at a point that I was going to buy a whole other mower for those days I don't feel the stripes
Jimmy, couldn’t you just insert the clevis pin the other way? Meaning each side would go towards the middle of the mower and not out over the wheels? This way the extra wouldn’t be sticking out beyond the new bracket. Just a thought. Great video
@@JimmyLewisMows Hey Jimmy. I got my CheckMate for my Honda HRX and was looking to do a quick release like yours. After installing it to my mower, the drilled hole that I needed to make to install the striper brackets is much lower than yours on your Toro. Therefore, there's unfortunately not enough space to add on a quick connect bracket onto the Honda HRX series mowers. Just wanted you and others to know in case someone with a Honda HRX series wanted to order a disconnect from you.
JLM, Great quick how to for the quick connect! Seems really easy! Would love to see an update on the Spyker Spreader your thoughts and some spreader settings. As always great vid and top notch editing! Peace and God's Love! Chad Upstate NY
I have the same mower and same stripe kit AND a huge hill I mow. I really need this set up so I can mow my hill easily without my checkmate. I'll pay you 👊
Hey Jimmy - do u still have this available for purchase? I’d like one for my Honda mower… I’ve considered selling the checkmate / big league just for this very reason.
Jimmy how did u get the bolt off the lawn striper. That thing is not budging. So I put the quick connect on the hole that connects to the mower. I have not tried it yet but it’s seems awkward and I have a feeling it might not work correctly The 3/8 bolt that is attached to the striper arm that connects to the actual mower. I can not get it off. I feel like I might break it if I keep trying. Does it come off?
I just bought the checkmate a few weeks ago. Puts down some great stripes! I’m curious though, if you drilled out the hole in the mower anyways, why add the 1/4” steel extension? Why not hook the checkmate itself to the mower with the clevis pin?
Hey Jimmy, does this allow you to set the mower to setting “F” or “G”? My biggest complaint about my DIY Big League Lawn striper doesn’t allow me to go beyond “E”.
Hey Jimmy Can you make me one for my new Honda 21in Self-propelled Mower.. I don't have the tools to make the Quick Connect at home... I'm in Indiana... I have the New Big League Stripper for my New Honda HRN Mower... I haven't even unboxed the mower or the roller lol yet...
I too thought the Big League version was spendy until I looked into making my own. If you want it to look good with similar wheels, you really don't save much compared to buying it from them. Those wheels are the biggest expense with these.
Depends on your mower. From what I've found in most cases, especially with the timemaster, there really isn't much room to work with at the connection point on the mower frame, so having the extension eliminates a lot of the hassle.
Jimmy, I FINALLY got around to hooking up the Super Recycler and Checkmate. When I attach your kit on the mower, they hang straight down and swing freely. Pretty sure that yours did too. But when the Checkmate is attached to your pieces, there is slack which delays the roller from moving forward or backward. I'm just wondering, is that normal? Or have you thought of a way to tighten that slack since the inception of your kit?
Hey Fred, I don’t know how this comment slipped by me but I apologize. Yes, the brackets hang freely on my Timemaster and I haven’t noticed any issues or had any concerns personally regarding the slight delay. So that being said, yes I would consider that normal behavior. This behavior also does not affect the overall quality of the stripes. The stripes in the image on my website were created with my kit attached. If you have any ideas to sure up that connection, shoot me an email.
have you noticed if the weight of the roller has damaged the tranny in the mower. 20 plus pounds extra i would think is a early demise for the gear box...
I haven't had any issues with the transmission to this point (3 years). But, I do not run the striping kit full time, either. It's only occasional use. The people I know who have experienced tranny issues were using the roller full time and also had the previous model of the Timemaster with the small, 190cc engine. I would recommend not running the roller full time to avoid the risk. Definitely a good way to justify one of these quick connect kits 🙂
Is there any reason that you can’t put the clevis pin directly on the mower rather than fabricating a bracket? Seems like that plastic guard for the bagger just pulls up and allows access.
There really isn’t much room there. Adding the steel bar makes it so much easier. I didn’t show it well but I don’t even need to flip up the bag guard to attach and disconnect the roller.
Thanks, Nick. I took the diagram down after deciding to offer the kits for sale. If you would be interested in purchasing one, here is a link - jimmylewismows.com/merch/quick-connect
I've made several kits for the Honda HRX. If you go to the website linked in the description it will take you to the product listing on my website. There is an order form in there that asks about the mounting hole size in your mower's frame.
@@JimmyLewisMows you’re the man! I bought your quick connect last season and removed my BLL striper and for whatever reason had parts everywhere. Needed to see the arms in action for some confirmation. Thank you!
Good question. On the TimeMaster there just isn't a lot of room there to fit it. In fact, it almost doesn't fit. Adding the extra steel piece, allowing you to attach to the frame with big league's hardware, and then the clevis pin on the other end makes it much easier to work with.
