In this video I am exploring IRIG-B signal which is used for accurate time synchronization.
This video might be a bit incomplete and out of context - I will make a complete video once the project is finished, stay tuned :-)

I really like the detail you go into with the technical problems you are facing and how you approach solving them. Keep up the good work!

Dalibor, I have spent too many hours calibrating radio transmitters Ultra high stability oscillators to 1 part per billion. The time standard we used for that was a Ball Rubidium standard. For some lesser accuracy required equipment, we did use a GPS receiver with a 1pps output. One thing I learned and I can only speak to the particular GPS receiver we used. That without a gps input, things would eventually get a bit drifty if it didn’t see a bird for a while. I have been out of that part of the industry for 10 years now, so maybe what you have is stable without seeing satellites on startup. Just saying the output may be a little more stable with a GPS lock. My other thought would be playing with the scope triggering. Being a tech on the other side of the globe, speculating on what you are doing, without a lot more information is irresponsible on my part. So forgive me if what I mentioned is irrelevant. I can’t wait to see your solution. Please make sure you let us know how you solved the problem.

Hi Rick, I am always surprised with the local audience! Pleasure to meet you. This display will be synced to IRIG-B during operation, so it will have a time source all the time it is running, no drift should occur. In case the signal will be unplugged, we will still have an ovenized oscialltor inside which will keep the time. I will tell more in the next video, thank you again for your comment!

Hi, if I look at the datasheet at 3:09, the "sinewaves" all start with a rising (positive) half-sine. In your oscilloscope-plots, 10:30, the first peak is *negative*. It leads me to think that the polarity of your isolation-transformer is inverted, so it is not a phase-shift, but rather a phase- _reversal_ . Perhaps swapping the polarity helps?
@daliborfarny
@daliborfarny 5 лет назад
Hi! Yes, we later found the transformer inverts the signal, we also had to tune the circuit a bit m to remove that phase shift. Since yesterday it works perfectly, far below 10us. Details coming soon :-) thx!

Where do you get the getter materials from? I want to try making triodes to learn how vacuum tube technology works.

Great video, I like the format! A small suggestion - maybe get help of a professional videographer and make an intro and outtro for channel videos? PS I was wondering - what is your educational background and what's your other business? Thanks.

Hi, thank you! I first want to do the videos myself so I can exactly specify what I need from the potential videographer/editor. I am also currently not capable of planning the cooperation, so I rather do it impulsively when I have some little time.

Nepripada mi to az tak zlozite. V com bol vlastne cely problem - v tych 10us ze je to prilis malo na procesorove spracovanie?

The signal source is the Brandywine Communications GPS4, Time and Frequency Standard. www.brandywinecomm.com/products/42-products/commercial-gps-synchronized-clocks/83-gps-4-time-and-frequency-standard This product (2005) has been discontinued by Brandywine, replaced by a GPSDO product. Here is the Brandywine GPS4 Data-sheet. www.brandywinecomm.com/filemanager/files/product_pdfs/gps4.pdf Brandywine GPS4 User Manual, version 2.2 www.rabel.org/archives/Brandywine_GPS/GPS4-Manual_v2.2.pdf IRIG-B specifications (GPS4) : Carrier frequency: 1kHz Data: Seconds through Days Amplitude: 3Vpp into 600 Ohms Modulation Ratio: 3.3 to 1 Connector: BNC

Hello there… I am looking to extract the 1 pod signal from IRIG B… do you have any source code for Arduino that might help. Thanks.
