I'm taking care of my husband for the past 9 years, he is in dialysis and during these years he had a lot of other health complications. Sometimes between my job, my husband and raising a teenager, I feel overwhelmed, but I noticed that watching makeup tutorials help me to relax. Thanks!
@kerrylou3
@kerrylou3 2 года назад
I'm glad you find this relaxing Alicia, you certainly do have a full plate! Regarding your teenager - I raised a teenage boy alone, and I have to say that he turned out to be one of the most responsible people I know, (I know you're not alone in that same sense). We cooked together, and he helped around the house, we learned to use a drill and tools together lol! I guess my point is, you don't always have to give the impression that you can do it all, let your child know what help you need. Wishing you and your family all the best! x

Kerry-Lou, I felt as if you were speaking directly to me. First I want to say I'm so happy your Mama is feeling better! My elderly Mom fell and broke her hip in Aug. She and my dad still live independently so I've been caring for her as much as possible. Then last month, my wonderful, kind, beautiful husband was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. This was such DEVASTATING news, as he is my world. We have 2 boys, aged 19 & 12, and it was so hard telling them this news. My husband is going thru very aggressive chemo treatments, and I am grateful for being able to be his caregiver. But I am exhausted, physically and mentally. I love your advice about asking for help. Also, thank you for the wonderful tutorial. I've been living in sweat pants, no makeup, and hair in ponytail for too long. I feel so drab. I really needed this pick me up that you gave us. Thanks again! Your friend, Stacy ❤❤

I am so sorry to hear of what you are going through Stacy, I cannot even imagine how it is for you right now. Somehow we are given the strength we need at times like this, (from God, the universe, whatever your faith) You and your family are in my thoughts and prayers. Much love, Kerry-Lou x

You are so right! It seems that in my 60s & retired, my life has sped up instead of slowing down & relaxing. Helping my sister with our mom, my husband's mom is almost needing more help, my grown kids needing favors & then my beautiful granddaughters needing me more now since they are growing into young women. My poor husband, he seems to get forgotten about, lol. Besides helping with our aging parents, we need to learn how to say no more often, especially if it's not major. OK, stepping off my soap box. I relax watching your videos & learning from them. My "me" time comes 3 times a week for an hour at the gym. And funny, a trip to the grocery store, I now consider it "me" time, lol. So glad you're healthy, home & doing a new video. I love a 5 minute makeup routine.

Hi Jackie, wow you certainly are a busy lady, thanks for the wise advice. Yes to saying no sometimes! I feel the same about the grocery store, especially when I can get a conversation going while waiting for my cold cuts LOL! All the best to you and yours! xx

You just made me feel better. I have been taking care of my bedridden 88 year old father who had heart failure last Dec. 14. I do the night shift because I am both a professor and a PhD student in a state university. I am lucky to have my aunt for the day shift. My energizers are 30 minute morning walk, once a week belly dancing class and of course make up sessions before class. Thank you

I’m 74 and while both of my parents have been gone for many years, I’m now taking care of my husband who has dementia. He takes care of himself and our 2little dogs, but relies on me for being there. He doesn’t like to go out because he doesn’t want to be in a strange place even though he has been there before. I do go places on my own, but about an hour or so after being away, he calls to see if I’m on my way back. I don’t begrudge him doing this as there will come a time when he won’t remember me or “us”. Of course, caregivers do need a break and I’m glad for and hour here or there, but dread the day I’ll have all the time and no husband to share it with.

So glad ur mum.is improving & you could leave her in very capable hands. In 2019 I looked after my mum for 2 months while my brother who normally does most of her care, had pneumonia, & he himself was in hospital, so I along with family members were also visiting him, apart from raising four children, this was one of the hardest things I have had to do. My mum then was 84 & has heart problems, along with other health issues, I was SO worn out, my hand were so dry they cracked & bled, through washing them so often, even though I wore gloves alot of the time. I ended up in hospital with a brain infection, which put an abrupt end to my care giving. Thank goodness my brother was much improved by then & able to take over most of the care for mum, along with help from other family members. But like you Kerry Lou, it tought me a great appreciation for all the care givers out there, they really are hero's!!

Wow! Needed this. Hubby on disability for several years. And yes...kids moved back in, bringing 2 dogs and 2 cats. On the positive side, the chaos has livened up hubby's life. The downside is that I am exhausted and I still work full time. To say that I am tired is an understatement. But I also know that there are others who have gone thru so much more. Blessed to have a 81 year old Mama who can run circles around me...my greatest supporter! Love and prayers to all caregivers! You are not alone!

I had my dad who had cancer and Alz and I lost caregiver help during the pandemic. I had to take a leave of absense from work to care for him. It was a constant 24 hour thing. For a year, I stopped skincare and wearing makeup. I was too tired and didn't care anymore. That was a mistake. Even 5 minutes will at least make the person feel...less lost. We need that self-pampering. When he died, I had to start reclaiming myself. My face is mad at me for having to get used to the retinol again. :)

I can't even imagine what you went through - you really are a super-hero! I was only taking care of my mum for a week and I felt like you did - what a wimp I am! But this was enough of an experience to know what you and many women have gone through in an extreme way. It's very easy to abandon any grooming rituals during that, but I'm glad your getting back to caring for yourself. I'm sure you know this, but regarding the Retinol, start with once a week, and gradually increase over time. You can mix it with a little basic moisturizer also. All the best to you x

Thanks so much - So sorry for this hard time you're going through - let someone know you need some ME time, it's surprising how little time it takes to rebound! Hope your husband gets stronger soon. All the best to you both xx

I so enjoyed this video....and I can't help but notice your hairband-hairstyle. It looks different than the "braided hair band" video you created..... Curious how/what you did there. Love, love, love...... Thanks for sharing.

I agree.. being a caregiver is incredible and hard. I took care of my dad for 2 years prior to his death and the stress was brutal. You become invisible and a blur. Now I am 75..very active and in good health, I think, but just started feeling some aches and pains I never had and it scares me to death. I think I need those self care steps more than ever now!! ..so, yes, caregiving is hard and needs to be more balanced with self care… but it works that way for the other person being cared for as well! You can’t care for others or ANYTHING if you don’t care for yourself. Why do we make this a character flaw? 🙄🤷‍♀️ I recently said no to a family event and The backlash was head spinning. Selfish? Wow! There has to be a way for the “giving till I drop dead” group to find some balance-and have some understanding that self care is not withholding. Life is complicated enough.

Thanks for your very thoughtful comment. I'm glad that you're taking care of yourself! I know what you mean about those aches and pains - I have to stretch before I get out of bed! Regarding setting boundaries, women especially are not so good at this typically. YOU have learned through your life experience that it is a necessity - this is an evolved way of thinking, and not everyone's there yet, hopefully your family will catch up soon! All the best to you! xx

Interesting where you placed your eye shadow. And that you didn’t use any shadow on the lid itself. Was that just to save time, or does not putting shadow on the lid help lift hooded eyelids perhaps? I am your age and have extremely small eyes, plus hooded eyelids. I therefore have a terrible time with eyeshadows making my eyes look smaller and/or too heavy/made up looking. Even light taupes make me look like my eyes are bruised! I cringe every time I start to apply eyeshadows because of these probs. So frustrating. I have dark brown hair and skin tone is a light beige color. I’m going to buy this shadow in the same color you’re using here and use your technique. Wish me luck! Thank you!

Best makeup for lots of age spots on face?? Also, I can never pick out the right color of makeup, any suggestions? Thanks!💜 Yours always looks great 💯
@kerrylou3
@kerrylou3 2 года назад
Thanks for your question Sandra - There are different ways of dealing with the age spots. I prefer to use a light textured foundation, and then choose a concealer that's an exact match for the age spots, (I like Ilea beauty's concealer, or Bobbi Brown) OR some like to use a full coverage foundation, like the one from ILMakiage I am going to be trying that one soon! All the best to you! xx

Fantastic video - thank you. I do have one question - how do you make the l'oreal base last throughout the day? Powder? Thanks!
@kerrylou3
@kerrylou3 Год назад
Thanks for watching! This particular L'Oreal formula is supposed to have a dewy look, and I found that it did last well. If you don't like such a shiny look I would suggest the L'Oreal True Match Super Blendable Foundation, I have also found a great loose powder by ELF which would go great with it! Good luck!
