Thanks for this man, really big help! Found this video by search for the Smallrig low profile base plate. I was looking between a couple of their base plates, and it's hard to figure out the size of them. Seeing it on the FS5 gives me confidence in it. Thanks!

Thanks for stopping by! Glad the video provided some insight. And yup, this thing is worth it--keeps the FS5 still slim while providing flexibility for the 15mm rods for accessories.

Definitely great suggestion with the battery - hate that damn BPU30 !!! Just noticed a small mistake in the beginning of the vid though - HD is 10bit 4:2:2 on this cam - the 4:2:0 is in 4k mode.

Thanks Joe for the comment! And thanks too for the clarification on the UHD and HD recording settings are you're correct

Thanks for the review. Just bought the FS5 and am researching rig accessories.

Awesome! One thing not mentioned here is the SmallHD 502 monitor. Well worth the price tag for a real sharp monitor with features not in the built in monitor: waveforms, LUTs, etc
@RexSingleton
@RexSingleton 8 лет назад
yes small HD is excellent but I think for $600 more you could be a Atomos or Q+ with Ext recording. Look forward to seeing more of your reviews.

Trueee. We also have a Shogun but for something that isn't so power hungry and light, it's definitely a great option. But I feel you: it's basically the price of a flat screen TV for home hahah

Dude. You killed this! Very very helpful! Have you noticed a big image difference between the fs5 and A7s? Thanks brobro!
@845a
@845a 8 лет назад
+Seth Dunlap Thanks for the look! Honestly, not a big difference from shooting with A7S + Shogun for 4k and FS5's 4k internally... I do think shooting on the FS5 has just made it easier to get shots (plus the added benefit of slo mo) and made shooting more efficiently (variable ND, SWIT battery, built-in XLRs).

First, I love your channel name hah that’s legit. And second awesome guide in accessories. I just got the fs5 and can’t stop watching videos on it

Justin Porter Media thanks for taking a look! It’s really a great cam. Once you get spoiled with its electronic ND filter, it’s really hard to go to work with another cam that doesn’t have it hehe Let me know if you have any questions! Cheers
@JustinPorterMedia
@JustinPorterMedia 5 лет назад
8:45a haha yea I’m already spoiled. Literally change lens and don’t have to rethread anything lol. Love that! And the colors realllly pop lol. What profile do you use typically?
@845a
@845a 5 лет назад
Justin Porter Media nice! I use Slog-2 or Slog-3 and colorgrade in post (FilmConvert is a great start or you can just play around with cooo grade and make your own LUT)
@JustinPorterMedia

8:45a Nice. Same I’ve been using SLog on my A7Sii Bit was curious what you used since the minimum iso is 2000 lol thanks a lot man. Keep up the great work on the channel as well

Would love to see how you setup the monitor and paralinx (I'm doing something very similar.) Thanks!
@845a
@845a 7 лет назад
brad curran Yo! Thanks for stopping by! Re: my setup using the Paralinx Arrow [HDMI], I connect it to the HDMI out of my SmallHD 502 [which that is connected with SDI]. Powering the Paralinx, for some reason the USB out on the SWIT batteries don't work despite being rated 5V. So instead, I bought and use a D-TAP to USB [just search it on eBay which is around $8-10] that I plug on top of the SWIT's D-TAP battery. From there, I plug the Paralinx's usb for power and also power the SmallHD via D-TAP. This has worked for my shoots with no hiccup. Hope this helps!

Thanks! great setup and so much better than worrying about 3 different kinds of batts. Thanks for the lowdown!

Just want to know what is the difference between this video camera and the Sony z90
@845a
@845a 5 лет назад
Sci-Fi Ninja Theater sorry I don’t know the z90. After googling it though, main difference is that z90 has a built it in lens whereas FS5 is e-mount. So z90 is Handycam whereas FS5 is a cinema cam.

Useful but I'd worry about investing in Swits - great batteries but Sony have previously been known to put updates on their cameras ensuring they don't work Really wish I could afford this camera

Thats my worry too, I have ordered a FS5 with Sony battereis.

Hi! Question 1: Regarding the Swit battery, can you use the D-Tap while the battery is plugged into the FS5? I've seen some B&H reviews where FS7 users were complaining that you can't use the D-Tap when the battery is in the camera because the battery doesn't stick out enough. Question 2: Is the remaining battery % accurately reflected by the camera's indicator? Thanks
@845a
@845a 8 лет назад
Hey Chad--thanks for the look! For the FS5, the dtap can surely be used with this Swit battery. Didn't get to demo it on the video but am using this battery to power the SmallHD 502 monitor via lp-e6 dummy battery to dtap (cable from Zacuto). Re: the battery accuracy, it does display the percentage but I can't tell you at the moment how accurate it is i.e. Actual runtime in hours/minutes compared to display. From my initial use of it, it seems just about right

+8:45a Cool man thanks! I'm thinking that in the future I may be able to D-Tap an Atmos Shgun. There are also these Switronix Series 7 EX-L96 Battery Pack batteries (they are huge) that I used to use on my EX1 cameras, that also have a D-Tap that may be better because a Shogun sucks a lot of power. I tested and they work on the FS5, maybe 6 hours vs 4. But I like that the little Swit has a D-Tap too that could at least run a light for a long time. I'm loving my FS5! I'm using your SmallRig solution to put a lens support on to use with my new and very heavy Canon 70-200 f2.8 IS II lens. Thanks for posting some FS5 stuff man!
@845a
@845a 8 лет назад
+Chad Johnson nice! I agree on the Shogun using lots of power--barely have used the batteries since getting it. When I have used the Shogun with the FS5, I've rigged it the same way that I've used the Shogun with our A7S--using an Anton Bauer battery via a Lanparte AB plate that powers everything (I have a video of that setup on the channel) It's the not the most elegant solution and does add significant weight to the FS5 but if you aren't run and gunning, it works really great. I've recently got Zacuto's FS5 viewfinder but returned it after finding out its not a great fit for the style we shoot and instead opted for the sidefinder for the 502. Will post the quick review of the Zacuto FS5 viewfinder shortly!
@ChadWork1
@ChadWork1 8 лет назад
+8:45a Cool. That sidefinder looks crazy! 1,500.00! I have been looking at the Zacuto Z-Finder rig that's not available yet. You've probably seen it - making a shoulder rig for the FS5. I'd like to quickly go from shoulder to tripod. I'm not in a hurry though. Will see what people think after it's been out a while. Right now I'm just getting lenses. My workhorse is the Sigma Art 24-105 f4, with a speed booster Ultra (EF to E mount). Great lens, better than the Canon equivalent, but heavier. I just got the Canon 70-20o F2, and have the Rokinin/Samyang 14mm Cine prime on order after borrowing a friends. Samyang makes the same model but brands it differently, so the Samyang 14mm T3.1 Cine is 329.00, and the exact same lens with Rokinon written on it costs 500.00. Anyway decent wide prime. And I'm hoping after NAB Canon will come out with the 16-35 F2.8 III. Those 3 zooms will be my main stuff, and I'm pickup primes as they strike my fancy. Anyway, the 24-105 Sigma gets 90% of the work.

This camera unfortunately was very noisy for me and the kit lens has very bad distortion, will have to return it unfortunately :(
@845a
@845a 8 лет назад
+asafblasberg :( I've been using the FS5 with the a7s + Shogun for 4K recording as a backup and couldn't be anymore happier. The image I think works well for me but of course it all depends on what your'e doing. If you're working with natural light, A7S/II is the way to go for sure. I deal with a lot of interviews and having the XLRs built in is great. As mentioned, the slo mo is totally usable and setting up/breaking down is easy compared to A7S-Frankenstein set up :) So to each's own of course.
@matrodmedia
@matrodmedia 8 лет назад
The FS5 has lens correction profiles for all Sony lenses in the menu, it's just switched off by default. Not sure about the noise issues you were having... maybe inexperienced with S-Log? I hate to say it.... but maybe you jumped-the-gun on returning it? With all due respect, the issues sound like user-error. Maybe not though, I'm not you, so I don't know.
@845a
@845a 8 лет назад
Agreed. If one went from A7S series to the FS5 looking for the clean high ISO, surely you'll be disappointed which is why it all depends on what you're shooting.

Great video, is there any crop when shooting 240fps?
@845a

No cropping at 240ps. You just lose resolution when you start to go beyond 240fps.

Ixver Pro hey it's JJ (my personal account) from 8:45a. You certainly can use Nikon lenses. You just have to use the correct lens adapter that is already available.

Hows the Slow Motion on Sony Fs5?

Mighty Mike Midget Murga it's amazing, can go upwards of 900fps but for best quality stay at 240 or so.
