Quick release install on Nissan Hardbody/D21

Jokey Jesus NRG comes complete with wiring when you receive your steering wheel. I’ve never had a horn on a car because I don’t often use one, even in other cars. That’s why I took off the metal ring at one point in the video

Jonathan Baca I didn’t realize how many people would actually look it up. It blew my expectations Forsure. I won’t ever take it down. It was a fun truck don’t get me wrong. Perhaps if it was an extended cab I still would’ve kept it but being a single cab it had it’s limits!

Timm Jr yes, you can directly mount your steering wheel to the hub adaptor. Keep in mind with the style of wheel you order, sometimes if the steering wheel itself is too flat it can conflict with your turn signals and wipers.

At 10:41 that piece is part of the quick release assembly. The male section of it. When you receive a quick release you’ll receive that piece to put on the steering hub. You’ll also get an additional piece (female end) for the steering wheel.

Edwin Aragon I couldn’t give you the offset size because I personally don’t know that. As far as the wheels go. They’re a 15x7. Now wrapped in a 205/50R15 from Bridgestone potenza RE71R’s. I believe the truck is dropped two inches all around. I would say there are two options for you. If you’re trying bigger tire all around you could keep running it through a 60-65 series tires. Which essentially would make the tire taller. If you’re talking a better fitment I would say (if you want to go wide tires) look up 225/45R15 a few companies make them and they’re not cheap but they’re basically designed for some track usage. I love the look of a meaty squared look so that’s what I would personally get if you’re running 10” wide on a 15” size rim. If you just want to go slightly wider but stay on a budget 205/50R15 work and they don’t have to be RE71R’s A LOT of companies make that size but you need to realize on a 10” wide wheel it’s still going to be stretched.

Edwin Aragon Thank you! I’m slowly building it as I go along. You won’t be disappointed with a wider tire. It’ll grip a lot nicer too if you drive aggressively. Just be aware. In case you don’t have power steering having a wider tire could be harder to turn with just because there’s more surface area on the ground now. It won’t be impossible you’ll just feel the grip from a 225 vs 195

Lalo Lopez the shift knob? Shift knobs are threaded. Basically, I just did “lefty loosey” until it came off then I did the same for new shift knob. Except it was “righty tighty”

Bro I appreciate you! I have a hardbody same as you dude ! I was going for an nrg or grip royal wheel but a colored wheel that goes well with the red but I’m digging the suede tho keep killing it ! 🤙🏽💪🏽

Puertoropelu225 Thank you I really appreciate that. I’ve always been a fan of darker interior that’s why I opted with a black and gold scheme. Grip royal makes some pretty sweet wheels. I’ve never driven with them but they have had some unique designs in the past. Nothing wrong with going NRG though. I’ve always supported the company and brand. I’ve used their hubs and wheels in most of my cars and I’ve had quite a few!

Trap Gang of course man! Black and gold with red is always a good color scheme, I did also think about getting the nrg as well, I mean everybody knows nrg is reliable so I definitely might but dude good luck n keep the hardbody kicking !

Puertoropelu225 She’s mechanically sound. She gets me where I want to go with no hiccup. Having a quick release for me is also rewarding because I’m really short. That being said getting out of cars is already an issue due to the steering wheel

RealOT TripleOG I don’t know the breakdown on the top of my head but I believe WITHOUT getting the lock it’s about 300 USD. With maybe close to 400. I could be wrong though. I ordered everything through amazon. It’s an investment and it’s a one time payment. I highly recommend the setup.

The hub is bolted down and mated to your steering column. Where the splines protrude. The quick release cannot mount to anything if there is no hub.

If you’re talking about the hub LOCK you don’t necessarily need it but I always like to add it for extra measure.

Pedro Ortiz it’s a simple and efficient modification. I ordered all my parts through amazon hassle free. The lock I have I believe is the V2 which has an outer plate that is constantly spinning. The V1 works fine too and is cheaper but the advantage the V2 has is that it’s constantly spinning meaning you can’t get a grip on it if someone tries to steal your vehicle without the steering wheel. I hope you enjoy your setup!

Hanales custom fishing rods I don’t have power steering. I’ve ran two cars before with out. Doesn’t cause an issue. I would say if you’re worried you can always do little tricks to alleviate the stress off the steering wheel by letting the car roll a bit so you’re not having to use as much force. I no longer live in an area where parking is tight but when i did I would do the rolling trick. I’ve owned 1 240sx 1 miata and now this truck. Back to back with no power steering all quick releases

Hawaii custom fishing rods excellent deterrent. I’ve owned 9 vehicles 2 of them had alarms the rest did not. I’ve ran quick release set ups for all those without. Usually if someone sees no steering wheel in the driver side they walk away. If they did somehow get in anyways driving a truck with no power steering and no steering wheel won’t be worth it

Does the new setup make the steering wheel closer to you or is it same position.

I believe you Misheard me in the video. I have installed quick releases on multiple cars including a miata. The steering wheel and quick release for the d21 pick up are both from NRG. If you read the description on the video you can find out which quick release you need for the d21.

You would need NRG quick release SRK-140H to fit on the d21 pickup

I don’t know exactly. You could always purchase the steering hub see if it’ll fit and if it doesn’t you can return it

Absolutely, I can’t remember how the wires ran through the column before but you’re able to tap into the wires off your horn at any point if that’s the route you decide to choose

@@chrissorobio one more question on the quick disconnect I got two sets of screws 6 small black ones and 6 longer chrome ones which ones mate the disconnect to the hub ?

The quick release you can find on Amazon. It’s the 2.5 Gen. the spinning lock can also be found on Amazon. Just search “NRG 2.5 quick release” or “NRG spinning lock”

What speedometer? None of the gauges worked on that truck but fuel and temp

Jokey Jesus any person who also has a quick release can simply slap it on and take your vehicle. I used to trade different types of quick releases with friends. The quick release itself is interchangeable

@@chrissorobio yeah I know but like I think for vehicles that don't have a ass of fancy expensive stuff it's not really worth it I could understand though if you had a built car then I would probably invest in one

Jokey Jesus i see your point. I just have always had hub locks due to the fact of it being my only vehicle at the time. Alarms are an option but most of the time people don’t notice. The hub lock itself is also interchangeable so as long as I get cars with quick release hubs I’ll be able to use my lock. Everyone has a different point of view and I completely understand yours. I’d rather just have a lock to make it more of a deterrent rather than just an alarm.

@@chrissorobio I agree with that %100 if my ranger was my only vehicle I'd get a hub lock and yeah no one notices alarms because they just think someone accidentally pressed the alarm button the only thing I think that would make theifs run off is that if you had a alarm as loud as a train horn

I’ve done that before. The metal contact from the hub engages the horn. That’s why I removed the gold plate to make sure it didn’t engage
