Really glad I stumbled upon your channel your tone has to be some of the best I’ve heard doing Van Halen. I want to look into your 1984 series. I’m currently learning the entire album properly. It’s been so much fun especially now that I am not gigging full time. Keep up the good work man. Ed means a lot to us and you’re right he keeps on inspiring each and every day ❤
Actually have your van Halen DVD from lick library. Bought it some years ago. Think it may be the one with the bar being used, I'll have to watch it, I do know it's not the 1984 one, didnt know you did one for the 84 album. Do a far better job teaching in this one. Went a little fast on some of your lick library DVD. The def lepard one went a little fast. Atleast at the time in my playing it was. Thanks for sharing this. It's my favorite van halen song as well. This song and little dreamer Always liked the guitar in those song's even as a 12 year old youngster when it first came out.
Thanks for the comment. Yes sadly I was told to teach a certain way at Lick Library, my “chatty” style wasn’t appreciated that much so I was told to get to the point, and people can rewind. I haven’t produce anything for Lick Library in well over a year and am focusing on my own thing now.
@@SixStringAlliance just ran across your channel tonight, subbed, signed up for emails. Good lesson on the tune. Had no issue learning and playing it,had it down in like 20 mins or so. I have a couple of your lick library dvds. Yours and Danny's. Can't wait to see what content comes to the channel.
Brilliant video Jamie , thank you -this riff had mystified me for years !!! . I echo your sentiments about Edward 100%. Superb replocation of his tone too.
learned a ton from your 1984 Lick Library lessons...have to admit, seeing this played on a Frankie makes it so authentic. Those frets are HUGE. Quick question...where did you learn Ed used the Flying V for this track? Are there others? I read he used it for Hot For Teacher.
Great video and lesson. This has always been one of my favorites off of 1984 and highly underrated. I’m new to your community. I was searching for Badlander videos (I recently got the 50W combo) and see that you use it a lot and pull great VH tones from it. Could you share your settings on the amp I can use as a jumping off point for early vs 1984/5150 era tones? Thank you in advance!
Hi Eduardo, thanks for the comment. I do certain amount of post EQ for Ed tones when mixing, but I tend to use the the crunch mode, plus the variac power stage setting, keeping it spongy. Although I love the onboard IR’s, for EVH tones I tend to use the Two notes Lynch pack, using the VH cabs. But you can also use the 4x12 on the second preset on Badlander CabClone, the standard Mesa 4x12. I’d push your mid on the amp, bass around half way and push the treble for the Eddie sizzle. It’s always hard to guide people this way, a lot has to do with how you play, your guitar etc. another secret weapon I use is dual pitch for modulation, that really gives you the EVH sound. I used the Eventide H910 plugin on this video. I hope this helps a bit.
@@SixStringAlliance Jamie, this is great information, especially the amp settings since I'm just getting started with the Badlander. Can't thank you enough for sharing! My follow-up would be that I am a newbie to IRs. I play a Charvel San Dimas (circa 2009) and Les Paul Custom (2007) and I am pedalboard-based, playing for my own entertainment rather than recording. What would be a good pedal-based option for the pitch modulation you describe to sweeten the sauce? And thanks again - apologies for the basic questions.
