This video is a little late, but I'm going to go over little details of my running and driving, all original & stock, 1987 Yugo I bought last year. It's in remarkable shape for its age. You can follow me on Instagram and Facebook at Detroit Yugo and see more updates!

The car smells like freedom: no debts, cheep maintenance, you could repair almost everything by yourself. My dad has ordered one in 1991 but never got it, the country fell apart due to civil War Same year. Today the cars are 4 times prices in the eighties and we are not getting 4 times more money.

Had a yugo convertible back in the early to mid nineties. I liked it better than a friend's geo convertible. At least the yugo had an automatic top while the metro didn't.

there was no second strut installed in factory as a single strut is strong enough to lift trunk door.

Now when I start up an old Volvo I can say it sounds like Yugo lol the warning chime does
@danzeldiaz7447
@danzeldiaz7447 2 месяца назад
That warning chime also sounds like a Volvo chime and I believe that they’re related it has the exact sound as this car and I believe that the sound box was just transferred over to Volvos in the 90s and in 2000s but then they stopped making that sound box But I like it

Ha, my 1988 GV was bought from that dealership in Midfield. It was a Yugo dealership on the side and I have the promotional paperwork to go with the car, everything except the window sticker. I'm at 40,396 miles. Mine is very well optioned for it's time, it even had factory air conditioning! Both cars have that, including my parts car! The red car even has it's original charge of R12 that still cools. And yes, it takes a significant amount of power to run this option, you'll drop about 10-15 horsepower just to keep the air con going... Say hello to your new top speed of 67! Shoulder belts were actually not required in the rear at the time, and in the state of Alabama at least you are not required to even wear a seatbelt in the back seat at all. All models had a rear wiper as standard, but the motors have a tendency to seize and the blade itself is not an easy thing to find, I'd imagine many were removed like yours. Locking gas caps were optional as well. This car actually *does* have a piece of digital electronics, if it's all original! The Bosch beakerless ignition module is transistorized. The Carter-Weber 740 is a hard to find carburetor and it's a total piece of junk. It's not worth rebuilding or replacing, my car is on it's third rebuild for it's second carburetor and it just will not stay running right. The high idle is probably coming from a dying bimetallic spring inside the choke mechanism or a bad ground. They're pretty bad about that, and they only turn based on a cam... Which will not move unless you release the pressure from the gas pedal against it. The idle will only drop if you give it a little gas, even when the system is working properly! The toolkit in the trunk can actually be used to disassemble almost the entire car! It would take some serious patience but it could be done in a pinch. Being unable to lock your keys in the car was touted as a feature! The doors will not lock if they are open! EDIT: They're not supposed to lock at all if the door is open, the door latch is designed to stop you from even turning the rotary lock until the door is completely closed. I think your linkages may be bent. You can stop the tailgate from rusting if you drill a few holes at the very bottom of it. Also, the gate itself is not particularly heavy and so the strut is never under a lot of stress to keep it open! The two upper trim model switches, I'm not quite sure any US cars came with those. I know the Cabrio had one switch for the roof but the other I don't think I've ever seen. I know you can find a replacement fan switch that is commonly wired into the radiator fan and stuck there so it looks stock, but beyond that there never seems to be anything. The factory timing belt interval was 40,000 miles (According to the owner's manual and service manual), and later was extended to 60,000 with more modern belts (Service addendum and boxes modern belts come in). I still would change it every 40,000 miles or 2 years because it's an interference engine. Where is your oil leak coming from? Sounds like you have the wrong horn, too.

....really? That's awesome! The CarFax I pulled when I bought it shows it being bought new in August of 1987 in Livingston, TN, which isn't anywhere near Midfield, and the rest of the carfax doesn't show anything about Alabama. I'd say that the tailgate was swapped with a Yugo bought in Midfield, but the paint on the current tailgate generally matches the rest of the body. I dunno. lol

These cars were never rust prone. It lasted 34 years! That's a good car if it lasts over 30 years. The engine sounds good! No ticks, piston slap, squeals or anything. Don't replace the carb! You can tone down the fast idle. It was set like that for quick starts. You can kick it down by hitting the accelerator pedal. Remanufactured carburetors are problematic. You'll most likely go through 5 of them before you get a good one. That is a Weber carburetor. They were pretty good.

I feel like Yugos were more maintained in parts of the United States that were like hard to get to more like Hawaii and Puerto Rico and Guam because those were islands and cost a lot to bring stuff to islands so maybe they might have treat them better they might have treated them better possibly over there

Put a Fiat 128 sport carburetor on it! Take off the electric sac and put the handbrake on! He spends a lot less and you'll get 63 horsepower for the 50 liters he's got with that carburetor!
