Quick Tip: Quiet Down Your Roof Rack 

It's an annoying problem with fixed roof bars,this guy has found a solution that really does help.He shares it to help others and alot of people seem more interested in taking the piss out of him....I tried it on my fixed roof rack and it works and alot cheaper than the manufacturers roof fairings.

I installed new cross bars on my Ford Edge which already had rails. The noise was so bad, I could not talk on my car phone. It sounded like I had a jet engine on my roof. I bought black paracord ($5 for 50 ft.) and wrapped it around the bars at about 1 1/2 inch spacings between the spirals. It knocked out 95% of the noise. I just want to let everyone know that this solution is for real and real cheap. Thanks so much. Fantastic tip!!!

all the car antennas that I installed over 20 odd years in car audio, no one could ever explain why they were "wrapped" with a maybe 1/16" wire. So cool to finally find out why. Brilliant.

I just wanted to say thank you for this video. My newly installed racks were quite loud at highway speeds. This little trick completely eliminated the noise.

Just installed cross bars on my Jeep and it's been annoying as hell! High-pitched whistling & buzzing. Am driving 2000mi cross country next week so can't wait to test this out! Thanks!

This actually worked ! I'll be honest I was very skeptical. We just purchased roof bows for our Honda Pilot, the noise wasn't unbearable but very noticeable. 4$ black paracord along with just what the instructions from the video suggest and noise is gone ! Thank you for this video !

Great idea I'm going to try it. My roof rack noise has been driving me crazy.

Just tried this on our Thule rack on our CRV. Incredible. So simple and solved our noise issue. We tried adjusting the back hatch window and door latch thinking the sound was coming from there. Next we were looking at the sunroof or Thule wind fairing. Cost us $6 for the paracord from Home Depot. Thank you for sharing.

I was going to leave my cartop carrier at home on a 5500 mile trip because my round bars roared over 60 m.p.h. Tried this and it worked beautifully.l can still hear a little noise but it is about 95 % gone. Thank you!

I recently installed cross bars on mine and I can hear the wind noise, same noise when a strong breeze passes by and makes the windows sing 🎶

What kind of cross bars are those? I'm trying to find some that fit a 2011 Silverado that lock into the door opening.

I have a 2004 GMC Yukon that is in very good condition for its age, but the roof rakes rattled, I used coated exterior deck screws and screwed it to the rail. NOT to the roof..!!!

How about when you add the box?

Ok so I just bought a cargo rack with a wind faring. At the moment, I just have the cross bars and at 60mph and over it’s like driving on the Rumble Strips on the side of the road. I’m hoping that with a combination of Faring and Cordage will calm down the noise a bit. I’ll be back 😎

What if u have cross bars on the roof rack.. should I just put all over those bars...?

The spiral on old antennas was to increase the length of the wire to afford better reception. I presume the wind aspect was just a side effect
