Quick Tips: Incline Bench Press for better chest activation and less risk of a shoulder injury.

Most of us allow the elbows to flare out to the side and bring down the bar to the upper chest when performing the Incline Bench Press. This can reduce the tension on the chest and can increase the chance of shoulder injury.
For better results lower the bar to your lower chest and tuck in your elbows. Press the bar up using your pec muscle, making sure not to allow the elbows to flare out. This will lead to better chest activation of the pec muscle and reduce the risk of a shoulder injury.

Wow, i almost gave up doing these because they were boring and i never felt my chest burning as it should’ve been burning but with these i tried them and wow im surprised on how just the first few reps felt! A 100 x’s better muscle activation, chest is on fire 🔥 thanks alot man, ive tried many other vids and didnt work, im happy I stumbled on your video 😊

Though you're probably geared more to training men (I'm a small woman but have lifted for 20 yrs) l found your videos last week. And I must say, the reverse grip dumbbell chest presses (both flat and incline) have become my new favorite chest exercises. I had to go a lot lighter, but man, the burn:) I'm in love.

So even though it’s more effective to use reverse grip flat bench for chest, would it still be beneficial to mix in incline barbell press sometimes “mix it up” for muscle confusion?

Less risk of shoulder injuries but greater risk of being crushed by the barbell when using the suicide grip.

@@christianshelley it's because people have been making false claims using an ingredient called NAC that is also in PRE JYM so GNC pulled the product. As I understand it JYM is working right now to get the product back in stores soon but you can still by direct from JYM at jymsupps.com

He basically showed you the exact way to do a flat bench press, his way of inclines were terrible. The bar was supposed to land towards the very upper part of the chest particularly the bone between the neck and upper chest

I get better definition with gym equipment. Chest press and incline Smith machines. Also the dip machine gives u cuts that slice through butter

Does the bench with the locks and shocks on the side still count as 45 lb bar ? Sure don't feel like it. Why does it seem harder? I can go as fast vs free weight. That's my only issue with planet fitness is no free weight bench

@@martinpetterson4592 Thumbs around bar puts more pressure on outer shoulder head, thus increasing shoulder tear risk. Jim's way has better shoulder distribution.

Additionally tucking the elbows can be done while keeping the bar path aimed at the top of the pec, hence the reason for incline. Just be safe people stop allowing these content creators to make anything just for likes, and views.

How is nobody bothered by his grip? i'm no expert here, hence im looking up this video in the first place. But even as a beginner, this just looks insane to me. Suicide grip and almost hyperextended wrists. You seariously risk having that bar either slip and fall on your chest/stomach, or even break through your wrist and have it crush your skull, if you can't 100% balance it this way. Just grip your thumb around the bar folks. don't do this.

I tried it and nothing wrong with the grip, it equals better muscle contraction, but each their own, if you’re not able to grip it suicide grip then don’t attempt.

The ABSOLUTE worst form for an incline press. The actual bar was supposed to land ( or almost land depending on how deep one goes ) towards the very upper part of the chest particularly the bone between the neck and upper chest

@@wyler9290 you have 2 options Dont train anything that involves your shoulders Or Lift light to medium weight focusing on muscle contraction & pumping blood into your muscles as you are doing perfect form The form you need to be doing is arching your back a bit & as you are lowering the dumbells , make sure the dumbbells are lined up at shoulder level or leveled at the bone between the highest part of your chest and your neck...you go any lower than that then you will feel it more in your shoulders.........also at the negative part, try not to bring the dumbells down to far, just go 3 / 4 down then go up...

I totally disagree with this. When you tuck your elbows in it becomes primarily a triceps exercise. I usually do heavy sets on the incline w/elbows out , very slow & controlled on the negative side of the motion, and my upper pecks are always on fire. What matters is the mind muscle connection you develop by working out your focus on the muscle contraction instead of just rushing through the movement counting reps!

I couldn’t care less if you agree or disagree or if this works for you or doesn’t. Everybody’s body is different and some angles works best for some than it does to others. For those who watched this video and are not sure what to do my message is simple: go & try both ways and see what works best for you. I don’t give a shit what your “biomechanics” says, bodybuilding is not about a set of biomechanic’s rules. Bodybuilding is about finding the right angle that works best for you & take it to perfection. In Bodybuilding everything works but nothing works forever. Hey Jim ( and Message to Everyone)! Though, I appreciate the time that you had taken to create this video. I can't help but to point out a number of fallacies regarding your instructional. Number 1, your NO THUMBS dangerous grip regarding the bar; which you had displayed during the majority of the video. This technique has been deemed as DANGEROUS and RISKY(by most trainers and weight lifting professionals) when performing any type of bench pressing exercise. {Thumbs always around the bar} Number 2, your technique of Bending Your Wrists presents a degree of injury and strain to the wrists while performing this exercise. {Wrists should be as close to vertical as possible}. Can anyone recommend a decent incline bench that the average (poverty line) joe can afford? I quit going to the Y because the one by my house is tiny. Tried the bigger one a half hour away and nobody was wearing a mask but me... I really miss incline presses (among other things) and pushups are definitely not an adequate replacement.
