Excellent video. Keeping lead knee flexed is critical to getting club head under the ball and staying down throughout the shot is critical to not hitting the ball but striking the sand first. What you don't mention about set up is that the method you propose does have the effect of levelling out the shoulders and a vertical spine that are set up keys to striking the sand before the ball. If the spine is tilted slightly back as in most other kinds of shots, you will end up scooping and trying to help the ball up that can only end in failure. If the spine is tilted forwards you vastly increase the chances of hitting the ball first and that s something you do not want to do either. Best to get and keep the spine as vertical as possible resulting in level shoulders throughout the bunker shot to increase vastly the chances of success.

Does the setup and club face change if the sand is compacted or non-existent (which happens a lot in Scottish courses)

Except … what do you do if the sand is watered down, packed, hard, firm, or little sand making it difficult to get under the ball? 🤷🏼‍♂️

On long bunker shots you don’t take any sand, you nip it off the top.

You are right and wrong in your comment...LONG bunker shot, you DO want to hit the ball 1st vs the sand. Short or those bunker around the "green" you are correct in your statement.
