Catch-up on what I've been doing the past two weeks. I had to take a quick trip to South Africa to renew my passport. I stayed in two Airbnb's in Figueira da Foz, and a quick getaway in South Africa. Had a lovely time catching up with family and friends. My friend in Figueira looked after the dogs and then showed me around to some of their favourite spots in Figueira on my return. What an incredible place, and the vegetation is so very different to Castelo Branco! For one it is by the ocean on the West Coast of Portugal and close to beaches of Nazare and Obidos too. A must return for me!
On return to the farm I was shocked at the absolute overgrowth of a jungle that greeted me. Thankfully farm is intact, but my fruit trees look worse for wear and I am dealing with more maintenance issues in the bathroom.

About Girl Meets Farm:
I'm Christine, a South African expat now living in Portugal.
This is my adventure as a solo expat on a farm in Central Portugal with my two fur-kids, Shakti & Shiva.
I've never owned or lived on a farm, but moved to Portugal in the hope of fulfilling a life-long dream of finding open space, subsistence farming and a safer, better life.
The third stage of our journey begins now!
I'm still figuring out farm life, and while the larger renovation of the agricultural structure is now complete, I will continue renovating the interior to make it habitable and turn it into a comfortable home for me and my furkids.

I admire your love for animals. As a 3 dog plus 1 cat owner, I feel very hard to travel in Portugal. And going to the beach is very difficult. One year we went to Algarve, and it was a nightmare to find a beach where to be with my 2 dogs at that time, plus the rest of the family of 4 persons.

Oh Wow, Christine! What a jam packed video! Most enjoyable. Was fantastic having you back home in CT for a short while and well done on your successful pasport renewal! Excellent and timeous service from your agent. What a lot of travelling involved, but in this way you also get to see new places in and around Portugal. I love the dark painted window frames iin the first Airbnb you stayed in inFiguiera da Foz...you could perhaps consider doing same with the window frame in your new bedroom you are busy renovating. Great feature. Happy for you that your furkids were so well cared for in your absence. The Baths hot water springs in Citrusdal look like an awesome place to holiday. The accommodation fantastic too. The farm really exploded with its spring/summer growth in your absence. Going to need much of your time and hard work to clean, but nothing that cannot be done. Sorry to hear about the toilet overflowing. ..seems like there could be a blockage along the line pushing the water back. Your 3 offers to your video followers are incredibly kind. You have so much experience in all these fields to offer and very big hearted of you to engage and assist, despite your already full, full programme. Take care and all the best with all you do!

Thank you! A dark painted window could look could as a contrast as well - I've got (all) the white paint, so let me start with that first and can always change colour later on. It used to be green, but if I were to paint it dark, I may do it in charcoal. Hopefully the plumber arrives! Trying to avoid the wasps in the outhouse is challenging! haha xx

I would agree the BR drainage system is a problem whether it be the slope or the size of the drainage pipe and certainly accessible clean outs an venting.

Thanks for the tip! I definitely think there is an issue with the slope regardless, but have a suspicion that it may be the trap not fitting correctly ? There is definitely no O-ring around the outlet either...and perhaps all of the above!

You need 1:80 slope and a vent on your sewer pipe. Maybe you could raise your toilet to get more fall?

Thanks Antonio! I definitely don't have that :/ The slope they put the pipes down were 1:30 if I recall correctly. I'm hoping it is a fitting issue - I don't recall them fitting an O-ring on the connection between toilet and pipe - and it could be that connection as I can hear the flap, flapping... Still waiting on a plumber though a week later.

Este último alojamento onde esteve era caro e descuidado. Espaços mal aproveitados, má decoração e pouco limpo. Quando esteve ausente choveu muito e a vegetação cresceu em todo o lado. Agora que parou de chover e veio o calor, está uma humidade acima do normal. As alterações climáticas, fazem-se sentir por toda a Europa.

oh no not more issues with the renovations, if l was you l would rip everything out and find some decent builders and start over, not the best option due to expense, perhaps get nick from project portugal to help, and as for the person who was suppose to look after your land it's clear they didn't, get them to buy you new trees!

Hi Wendy! Such a shame - just as I start thinking I'm over any further issues with the renovations, something pops up! If the plumber who installed it is unable to come fix it, I will be asking for help from my friends :) I think I can save the trees - but sadly won't have a peach harvest this year. So one learns! :)

Get them to buy new trees???... Are you serious?... Is he responsible for the hail storm that destroyed most of the orchards in the area? Oh... I see...He should have opened his umbrella to protect the trees, all of them at the same time. LOL

Sorry you find my content disjointed. It is my real life and that is how it goes. So few videos of house progress as I am doing everything myself, alone and learning the skills too. I also work a full-time job and have to manage the farm too. So things move slowly.
