Sometimes, telling someone how to do something just confuses everyone so I decided to show my friend how I will attach the quilted squares together. And, once they are all sewn together, I will put a backing on it and bind it.

I took a tailoring classe from an elderly sewing teacher. She came around and told me to put my pins in PERPENDICULAR to the edge/seam to be sewn. She told me NOT to put them in parallel as they are harder to take out. Try it - once you do that you won't go back.

Well, thank you so much for letting me know you created this video. I like your idea but the edges on the back side are not completely “enclosed”, am I right ? Wouldn’t they fray in time, especially when washed ?

Part III, where I finish it up will be coming soon. I got distracted with other projects last year (daughter started to drive, first job, first boyfriend, improving and practicing sewing, holidays and ooh so many things. BUT, 2019 is my UFO (Unfinished Object) year. Thanks so much for watching and we hope you'll come back.

Since you've prequilted the square, is there not a method of applying a strip binding on the backside as well ???? Trying to keep the cost down yet still have a beautiful quilt...TY

Thanks so much, I was wondering how you added the strips as well, could you just use same black strips on the back as well, if you used clear or black thread maybe it would not show...just an idea of this instead of a backing...

Part III where I finish the project with backing and binding coming very soon. Got a little distracted with other projects but determined to finish those dratted UFOs this year.

How do you keep the backing from shifting? It appears that it would just free float around after you have bound the backing and top together. I love the idea of quilting as you go, but can't figure out what the backing is supposed to look like. I definitely want to make this once I get that part clarified. I love the diamond pattern.

definitely will have a back. No shifting -- will stitch (quilt) down the black fabrics attaching the blocks to each other. Be sure to join Sewing and Crocheting for Beginners on facebook and post pictures. I'd love to see your work in progress.

I understand why you use muselim on bottom then batting, but why do you use muselim between batting and strips?

So, do you put a backing on top of the muslin? Then how do you quilt the backing? Thanks

I will sew a piece of fabric (or fleece) to the top. Will stitch in the ditch up, down and across on the black strips attaching the blocks together - that way there is no shifting. Then bind the edges. As soon as I can get all the blocks attached, I will show you how I finish it. Just taking a little bit longer than I'd anticipated -- joys of being homeschooling mom!

It's going to be quilted, sort of. Getting my workspace cleaned and organized this week so I can have a nice large table to work on next week.
