Stick drift is a pain, either for Xbox, PlayStation or any other gaming platform for your controller. This quick video shows the best way to fix it. Since it is all centered in the potentiometer, we want to fix the analog by cleaning the wipers and getting any debris or hair out of there.

This is mainly for people who have heavily modded controllers that get stick drift. Most people will just spend $70 and get the base controller but even then this will have it potentially fixed for free in around 2hrs.

just replace the potentiometer with a hall effect sensor (magnet based) from any controller repair shop & say adios to StickDrift FOREVER, Till the physical buttons wears out 🤣

Not hall sensor, with Gulikit TMR, mainly because of power output of the sensor of hall effect joysticks not being the same as ALPS, gulukit TMR fixes that with a higher quality electromagnetic sensor with low power consumption

Na the resistance thingy always wears off its the reason we have stick drift they made them either cheaper or thinner for better response time yet it was a bad move

My resistance track was worn to the metal. On left stick. Had to de solder green fixture and solder a new one. Now it WORKS!!!!

Never had stick drift on any of my ps4 controllers but I have stick drift to the left on both my ps5 controllers. Had 4 ps4 controllers for 9 years and ive only had the ps5 for 5 years

Exactly the same story here. Out of interest, was it just the right sticks that drifted? As that's what my two DualSense controllers did (bought at completely different times).

What they could do is have a recalibration button that sets the make it think the stick in back in the center but no they want you to buy a new one

I don't have any controllers but I'm curious, if you put your controllers in an airtight place so that dust doesn't get in, will you still get a stick drift?

@@rudolfriddlerit usually happens from using them too much/too aggressively, or by dropping them. Not sure about air tight containers, it might help prevent dust buildup but that's usually not the main cause of stick drift anyway. Hope this helps!

"What they could do is have a recalibration button..." Unfortunately it's not that simple. Drift is often variable and intermittent. It can also make fairly random shaky movement. I'm pretty sure that's why Sony haven't been able to do a software fix.

So to potentially save people from wasting time on a repair that does nothing… It is practically NEVER just a matter of a cleaning or a problem with the metal wiper… However it is practically ALWAYS the carbon track that is worn down which results in constant contact…

I usually change the whole potentiometer. So I’m sure it will last again for some good time before needing to open it again. Usually the problem is whit the resistance material that with time will come off, so if you open it and have a solder machine and the skill to do it, I think is better to change the whole piece.

A lot of those modules are bad right away. If you open a new module and look at it magnified, you can see a lot of times flaws and damage already in the carbon traces. It's a bad design.

It's a mainboard problem, not the stick. At least, that's what I experienced. The thing works for a while, because you move the mobo in the process, but the problem will come back nonetheless.

I just did this to mine. Ordered new potentiometers put them in and now works great. I was alot more gentle tho. This dude is manhandling it like he has 10 extra parts for everything laying around

I did this and the green lid on the left analog wouldn’t close fully. After a couple tries it ended up falling off and is no longer connected to the motherboard. Now my right stick isn’t fully working. I need to have it soldered for it to work again.
