Quiet and Alone- a Mountain Overnight 

i am always looking to get out and camp , but not going because I can't get anyone to come with me . Watching you I realize i don't need to have anyone with me :)

I use a foldable foam pad under my air mattress. That does two things: it helps with the warmth and insulation and secondly it protects my air mattress. Love your outings. Thanks for bringing us along.

Another lovely scenic video. Thoughts to make life warmer..Exchange your plastic ( Nalgene?) water bottle for a single skin stainless steel water bottle. In the evening fill the bottle with hot water, place it inside a woolen sock and put it in the bottom of your sleeping bag. It makes the bag cosy, keeps you warm and in the morning you can make a brew with the water. 😊

Such a refreshing blog! audio is always so clear, thank you for sharing. And... your insight on your sleeping kit whilst on a tent platform. If the temp dropped to freezing, your quilt handled it well, save for the under draft of the platform. I guess having a foam pad in addition to the Nemo/Thermarest 3 season is called for. I used to be a hot sleeper, but those days are behind me, now.

Hi Wendy! Thanks for taking all of us along too! I laughed so hard at the point you spoke about being "wimpy" - that's most definitely not a word to describe you. That was such a beautiful hike with stunning views, air-borne scavengers lol, wildflowers & shrooms galore, and that gorgeous lake was like finding a pot of gold at the end. Your dehydrated chicken meal - I watched the video where you made this. Didn't you use chicken breast meat? I've always found that to be dry(er) in any recipe. What about using boneless chicken thigh meat instead? It has a higher fat content than the white meat but when you're hiking/overnight camping, you can use that extra fat - plus it's more tender when cooked. Hope you have a great week. Stay well.

Great place to hike and camp, going to add to my bucket list … thanks for sharing . I took a tip from the bush rafters I watch on RU-vid .. ones out of the UK where it’s always a bit chilly at night , they take a slim mat they put under their air mats to block that cold from coming through. Also, feeding those birds from your hand … sooo cool!!

What a beautiful place. I've never seen tent platforms before. I'm wondering how you know how much water to use to rehydrate your food. Maybe you could flip the cozy over a few times to keep some of the chicken from being drier. Thanks for the video!!

Love your outings. I know all of us have different ideas and ways we do things. For extra warmth in cooler months I use a solar blanket under my sleeping bag or mat either way I am warmer.

Hi Wendy . Like you I solo camp overnighters is what i call them. I dont do hard hikes but "easy" strolls. I used to go further and more difficult but now that I'm 59 it takes more out of me and my body aches before I ever start so I'm hurting pretty much the following day and i have to re-coup when I get back home. Question, how does it affect you and is your body hurting before and especially after?? But i love going and will continue to do so till my legs fall off I suppose. Loved the hike and the boardwalk thing was pretty sweet.

Hi Wendy, I am so loving your channel. I experienced the same kind of cold on my first hammock trip in my Haven. Now i use an under quilt. For ten camping in the cool season I use a ridge rest or a z rest. They weigh next to nothing and save the day!

Whiskey Jacks are so friendly, I was out hunting and sat for a snack. They were coming to me for seeds with zero worries. Isn't nature just fabulous ! It's where I find myself, too. So happy I found your channel. 😊 edit. Thanks for the vid! Look at UCO tent safe lanterns for managing humidity in the tent. I have owned and given away many. Local sporting goods store for purchase and refills. 😊

Trail dawdling is my favorite way to hike. Seeing, hearing and experiencing what's out there is for me, the whole point of hiking. Thanks for sharing your beautiful area. I spent a night at my favorite lake site Monday. When I got home Tuesday evening I almost slept on my deck because I didn't want to be closed in by walls. Lol.

In your rehydrating, since it’s sealed in a ziplock, maybe flip the bag upside-down every 4-5 minutes? As the water pools at the bottom it should redistribute the full soaking and water pressure to the food that had been on top which would have been fighting gravity to soak up the water.

Hi Wendy, great video! I wonder if you used a may made out of that reflectix material? It's certainly light weight and might give you that bit of extra warmth. Just a thought.

Wendy, it’s a beautiful place, but I just don’t see the point in camping somewhere you can’t have a campfire. For me it’s part of the experience. ❤

Wendy, when you say campsite and then we just see platforms and bear safe storage containers, we do this 😲 because it's so different to our set up in the UK. A lot of our campsites are managed through the day and lots of them have a tiny little old fashioned shop that sells bacon and eggs, matches and gas, etc. I feel like you guys are much more hard-core. 😅💚👏

Like randyboyette1366 I use a folding camp met under my nemo pad and it really helps keep me warmer. It is a standard waffle type pad. Love the videos...

Thru hikers sometimes go with a long cold soak. What if you keep the chicken separately dried and bagged and whenever you have lunch, just add some COLD water to the chicken and let it cold soak until you're ready to prep dinner, then mix it in with the rice and veggies and do your normal thing. The chicken will have had time to get pretty much hydrated so then it will just heat up with the rest of the meal for the final touch.

So amazing! Makes me want leave my cubicle at work and just walk out the door! So jealous! You bring light to my day. Thank you for keepin on!

Nothing worse than being cold at night camping! On recent bikepacking trip here in Australia it was 35C during the day🔥 but went down to 4C at night. Unfortunately I had packed my light sleep system and ended up freezing!❄

I would love for you to tell us all you put in your backpack, even if you've done that on other videos.

You definitely still have bragging rights for carrying all that stuff eight miles!

Wonderful hike. I could almost feel the cold air in the morning. Beautiful lake and view from your campsite. I also enjoy camping. I've never done backpack camping. I always camp at state parks where you can drive right up to your campsite. I do get out on the trails, do some bird watching, have a campfire and just relax. Thanks for sharing this time outdoors.

I was staying in a hotel and I had a dog with me, but at 50+ years of age it was my very first time traveling alone. I had a wonderful time and found a new friend - myself!

Well, Wendy, you found another bit of paradise. What a lovely spot. My advice about the rehydrating of meals is to leave it a bit longer than you think is necessary. That seems to work pretty well for me. Fall hiking or wandering in a wool sweater and no noisy coat whilst looking for mushrooms of all colours is one of my very favourite things to do. I certainly get why you like it.

I just found you… What a wonderful video! I can’t wait to look at some of the others from earlier trips. I love being outdoors and camping, but I camp in a teardrop. It just works for me, Easy… Virtually no set up… And a warm dry, comfortable bed. Great video

Wendy, as always, you have helped me end my week on a high note. My trail name is "Turtle Toes", which is actually because, for some reason, turtles like my shoes and socks! But it suits me because I love to dawdle on trails and would certainly be a contender for a SKT (slowest known time) hiker award. There is so much that is lovely out on the trails. Hi from the South of France. You give such positive energy Wendy and boy do you have beautiful scenery. I'm also fortunate with that. I hiked up the Caroux mountain with my group this week which i said was 'epoustouflant' = breathtaking. I wish i couls show you some photos.. We also got a bit chilly. I slept very well afterwards because it was a big climb. I hope you did too.
