Hi, I live in Australia where the homes have dry walls i.e. a wood frame with gyprock plaster boards on each side. these form the individual room walls. I've been trying to find out how this product performs in this situation, as these cavity walls tend to act like sound boards for dart boards attached to them. Has any body tested to see how rotafix stops the sound travelling across the house in this situation? thx.
@DartsReviewChannel
@DartsReviewChannel 7 лет назад
I haven't personally but there is a lot of Australian members on the forum so might be worth asking the question there: www.dartsnutz.net
@missmygamergirl445
@missmygamergirl445 6 лет назад
I think the roterfix is terrible because it decouples the board from the wall. Which is what it is designed to do to reduce the noise going through the wall But it lets the board resonate louder in room. Also the heavier the back board or cabinet you can use the better.. I suggest a trick we use in audio which is get blue tac and make 3 or 4 big from 10mm to 20mm balls and wedge them around the edge just under the board to the wall. Blu Tac has this property that is goes rock hard at audio frequencies. It will damp the board from resonating at audio frequencies. And it will couple the board so well to the wall it will damp the wall with the weight of the board also! I tried it and it works.

Awesome video. I got the WIN.MAX 18" Bristle Dartboard Steel Tip Dart Board as a gift and now love playing. Same situation as a lot people, though. Live in an apartment and upstairs neighbor complains about the noise. I have the board mounted to the viper wooden backboard. I have tried with the mounting bracket the set came with and the one80 Rota Fix. The noise seems the same to be honest. I don't mind the "thud" sound, I like it TBH, it's the klink sound that is too loud. It's only when I hit the bullseye or near it. Sounds like metal on metal. I've also tried adhesive foam on the back of the board, furniture skid pads, and extra rubber feet to no avail. I'm starting to think it's the metal wiring around the center and the steel screws. Don't know what else it could be. Do I simply need a new board?
@DartsReviewChannel
@DartsReviewChannel 4 года назад
Thanks! I think there is a difference from the centre than the outside when darts hit, the boards sisal is more compressed in the centre so that could be a reason. Also the bullseye is often a kind of metal plug that goes through the full width of the board so its always going to have a different sound like you notice. I dont think you need get a new board just because of that though. I have seen a system in Germany where the board is suspended by steel wires so it hangs off the wall, supposed to reduce sound but I have not had one to test and the way the wires hang I probably wont have the room to install them anyway :)

@@DartsReviewChannel Appreciate your feedback. Thank you!
@theKJgame
@theKJgame 7 лет назад
I think with the Winmau 1978 board was so loud because the steel tip was hitting the back of the board because like you said, the sisal is really soft and goes it much easier and faster so it hits the back of the board and it gave you a very loud result.
@DartsReviewChannel
@DartsReviewChannel 7 лет назад
Yeah quite probably the reason why :)

@@DartsReviewChannel I am doing some testing at home right now. Have the dart board attached to a 30"x30" plywood board that is _hung_ from two loop hangers and there is 1" of foam behind it and 1/2" in front and it made no f***ing difference. It seems obvious that a quiet dart board would not have wooden backing but would utilize a high density urethane or something that does not make noise once the tip of the dart goes through the fibers and slams into it. Also, I still have to make that bracket out of something else or maybe even hang the board on a swiveling bracket too...
@DartsReviewChannel
@DartsReviewChannel 4 года назад
I know there is a company in Germany that started to make cables to hang the board on, so it was free floating in the air. No idea how effective it will be though, was thinking of trying it just to see but I dont have enough space where my board is to be able to spread the cables properly.
@Trump-a-Tron
@Trump-a-Tron 4 года назад
@@DartsReviewChannel Update: I took the dart board off AND the backing plate/foam "system" and placed both on the floor, leaning against a wall. Still, it made the same noise. Half the thickness of the target is just a MDF board (glued , compressed sawdust) which makes all the noise. Bracket choices and mounting would impact sound traveling through walls by direct contact. Not the loud "THWACK" tho.. Since I imagine the sisal to be glued to the MDF, there is no way in removing/replacing the MDF board with some soft lumber or urethan, my only other option is burying the entire dart board into foam (back and sides) hoping the sisal does _some_ job in deadening the sound since I can't cover the front in foam as well, LoL.
@DartsReviewChannel

i think the mounting systems make the difference mainly because there is more stability and less give. the more play u have in the mounting system the quieter the board should be relatively speaking. Its no wonder someone hasnt made some sort of bushing to dampen on the mounting systems.

Personally I kind of like hearing the thump a dart makes hitting the board. That said this is what I've found with my Eclipse Pro mounted very tight to the wall. I use a Viper Defender (foamish) surround. When the surround is on and mounted off the wall by about 1 inch, flush with the front of the board it emits a healthy thump when a dart hits it. When the surround is pushed back so its firm against the wall it seems its muted by about 90%. I'm thinking this shows the sound mostly is telegraphed off the wall. It would have been interesting to see the results in your test of a board suspended on a wire. I bet with any board you'd be showing 20 or less db
@DartsReviewChannel
@DartsReviewChannel 4 года назад
yeah I think you may be right, I know there is a company in Germany that sells wires to allow the board to be suspended and its meant to be quieter but I dont think I have enough space where my board is to be able to put the wires up properly :)

@@DartsReviewChannel I've been trying to track down this German system with no luck. Do you have a name or anything to go by? If not, I was gonna make something of my own by hanging the board from the ceiling with really thin steel cable - like 1/64" - looped to tiny screw hooks in the side of the board. I'd then stick 2" thick acoustic foam panel to my backboard and have the dart board just rest against the foam. Thoughts? My problem isn't the noise of impact itself, but the vibration transferring to that particular wall and up 2 floors into the bedrooms.

Hi Darren, I wish you added the current Blade 5 to this comparison. I bought one some time ago and the noise was unbearable. I got rid of it already. I wonder if it's just me being spoiled by playing at my super silent Bulls Trainer or whether the B5 with the Rota Lock is really that loud. I had Gladiator 3 before that and I can't remember any issues with the noise. I don't have it anymore now and I can't compare it though. Except the Trainer I only have the Bulls Adv 5.01 now which seems to be somewhere in the middle between Blade 5 and the Bulls Trainer. I owned many dartboards in the past and I think Blade 4 and 5 were the loudest dartboards I've ever had. I had Bulls Adv. II, Unicorn Eclipse, Harrows Pro Matchplay, Harrows E.B. Apex Wire, One80 Gladiator 3 and some no names with rounded wires. I'm thinking about getting another G3. I just worry I've been used too much to the silent Bulls Trainer now...

Cut a piece of carpet the same size as the board, cut holes out for the adjustable feet and center screw. Double side tape the non fluffy side of the carpet to the back of your board. Get some felt furniture sliders that are the same size as the adjustable feet, they have a sticky back already. Mount the board and adjust to the wall. Or use lighter darts.
