They are nice Alex Anderson did a video on them. You can preview how blocks go together before cutting and sewing them. If you Lay certain blocks side by side you Can see how the blocks may or may not go together. All need to watch the Alex Anderson video on those boxes.
The Broken Dishes card is great for making a secondary quilt with leaders/enders. Thanks for showing these block builder cards - I like that they are white and gray since it makes it easier for me to imagine what fabric I'll use. Also love that they give different sizes for the blocks, I was afraid they would just have one block size like 4x4 or something. Can you believe that it's supposed to be 115 this week! Crazy since it was in the 50's last night and we lit up the fire pit!
I think I have that box of cards, and I am going to look. I plan to follow along and make a block a week. It would be fun to make a random sampler, and then maybe donate it around the holidays. ❤
The cards look great. Thanks for showing them. Happy birthday to your daughter! Enjoy the cooler temps - next week may be warm again. It seems like summer hates to give up easily.
I’m very excited that you previewed these boxes! I’ve been contemplating buying them. Now I think I will!! You’re 1st block is beautiful. And love your hair!!!
Holly, my windows are open and cool breezes are blowing through the house. And already the leaves, as they move with the wind, are sounding dryer. You know, that lovely, gentle chattering sound... MInnesota is waiting for you and hopefully we will have snow for you! OMG, of course there are block building sets of cards out there. I am going to make my first quilt for a 9 year old and would like to design it... I have plenty of fabric to play around with before I cut the fun ones. Hmm, as I think about it, I wish I had a set of the basic Colorforms from my childhood. The triangles, rectangles, squares and circles would be a fun way for my brain to design some blocks. Hmmmm, now my brain has fallen down yet another rabbit hole. Cheers, Fern
Oh my gosh, Colorforms, I used to love those! All the sights and sounds as the seasons change...so alluring. November can't come soon enough for me and our trip to MN. Hoping to experience some of those gales on. the big lake.
I see that lovely gift DP made for you. ❤️ Funny, I am now at a point of my life to go for quick and easy patterns. I do love to do sample quilts. It makes for a very dynamic visual. It feels like fall here in Maine.
Thanks for this review, Holly! Hmmmm….going to Amazon. Could be fun to use up some scraps and learn new blocks. You enable me! I wasn’t going to do the Christmas in the Park BOM from Open Gate but saw you share that on another video and caved. Bought the red kit and cut all the pieces today. Lovely fabric and excellent instructions! I hope you enjoy the quilting journey with these blocks and your BOM!
Years ago, when the world was new, I participated in my guild’s mystery quilt. I ended up with a lot of waste, due to the method of making HSTs. So I sewed them together to make mini HSTs and put them together as a mini quilt, dark, not quite navy, blue and white-on-white. Donated that to the guild boutique, and, alas, my completed mystery quilt top was never finished. But, I loved my Broken Dishes quilt. 😊
Hi Holly….thank you for your video,I have been sewing for many many years and I am still learning so don’t give up just keep going …..your samples look lovely and you will get better and better ….you will have good days and bad days just like us all….I love the season, living in the UK that’s all I am used to….plus I love the Autumn and spring months best….keep up the good work…..take care….from Barbara or as my grand daughters call me ….nanny Barbie….xxx
These seem to be good skill builder blocks, especially for newer quilters like me who have not made a lot of these blocks. 🎉 I am not participating in the Stephanie’s Stitches/Sleigh Arts sew along but have been watching them and a lot of the color combinations are turning out really nice! ❤
I'm participating in a two-colour quilt-a-long being run by Stephanie of Stephanie's Stitches and Shannon of Sleigh Arts. It is the fourth month and we select two per month. Stephanie writes instructions for each block! Lots of fun!
I left all the windows open last night and it was a brisk 63 degrees in the house at one point this morning! Love it. I’m not a HST fan. I’d consider this with squares and rectangles. 😁. Looks like I’ll get some sewing done next week when the heat returns….
Holly Holly Holly 😂😂😂😂You are sew funny!! You went from a BOM to a BEW ( block every week ) 😂😂😂😂not sure why I find that really funny. I do have this set, sitting pretty on desk waiting for me to use. You have now inspired me to do sew!! I would love to live in a seasons state. Ca is Hot, kinda Hot, not so Hot! However we do have a Hurricane coming for once! 😱 I guess I better hit the grocery store!! ❤️ 🤗
i have a book that i got years ago that has over 100 various blocks. I guess what you have is the new technology from the book I have as it ends up being the same. Use the various blocks in various sizes to make your own quilt.
You influenced me to get those Marcia Derse solids! I made the mystery summer camp modern quilt with Weeks and her husband. Can't think of his name. It was fun, but it certainly isn't everyone's cup of tea!
Holly, I hope y’all had a great weekend and birthday party!!! I also saw these on The Fabric Patch- I just love that patch🤪🥰. Being newer to quilting I’ve been contemplating this purchase; I do believe I’ll put it on my birthday n Christmas list🤔 thanks for your honest opinion!!! ❤️😀
Hi Holly, last year The Idiot Quilter (Steven Bland) received one of these boxes in a Christmas Advent box. I thought they were a great idea back then, but until now, I completely forgot about them. Thank you for showing them today on your channel. I have them in my cart at Amazon. Have yourself a good day.
I bought these when I first started quilting, I was disappointed because i needed to know how to put a block together, they didn't help at all. Have a blessed day!
I bought this box over a year ago, and I think the instruction card was missing. I never could figure out how the card worked. Thanks for explaining. Now I have to find where I put it away to look at it again.
Hi Holly, Alex Anderson gives a great review of this product and how to use it for designing. Check it out. I have the original book and will stick with that for the tie being.
Considering ONE quilt pattern is easily $12-$15 that box is a great deal. Also how much fun would it be to split those up among a few quilter friends and everyone do a few blocks then put a sampler quilt together? I'm a fan. Once I get $15 and over covid I'm going to get one!
That is a cute product, it is like a toy for quilters. I don't think you should move to Siberia, it seems like the internet service might not be very reliable there and we would all miss you too much. It has gotten a little cooler here lately too.
