Quinclorac Is Super Versatile ~ An Application On Winter Rye Grass

One of the under-rated herbicides that any homeowner can buy and use in the lawn is quinclorac. It can be used to battle invasive weeds in the lawn like crabgrass, kikuyugrass, clover, and many other broadleaf weeds.
In this video, I wanted to experiment with the application of quinclorac on a nearly 100% winter rye grass lawn. Winter rye is also known as annual rye. It is frequently used in warm-season lawns as a cover for the colder months of the year when the dominant grass type is dormant and brown.

Quinclorac and Triclopyr are 2 of my most used herbicides. I try to push people away from 2,4D whenever I can. Triclopyr almost always does a better job, it covers a larger range of weeds, and the toxicity level of Triclopyr is much lower than 2,4D. I found than any herbicide labeled for perennial rye is generally safe on annual rye. I have a plot of annual rye that has white clover seeded into it, with the goal of a clover monostand. That's a fun one to manage from an herbicide perspective.

I think I'm going to have a few bare spots this summer because of the POA.

yeah, that's always an issue. One option for dealing with those spots is to overseed them mid-summer, end of July early august and then apply a fall pre-emergent closer to October to prevent as much of the poa from coming back in subsequent years. Just a thought.

Application I used was label rate for spot spraying (1.1-1.45 oz per 1k sqft). I don't usually put application rates in videos because I want to encourage my viewers to always read labels. Depending on your location, target weed, product that is being applied, existing desirable turf, the rate can change and that sort of stuff is usually described very well in the label material. Here's the label from Quintessential hosted over on DoMyOwn website www.domyown.com/msds/quintessential_label.pdf I recommend buying stuff from there whenever possible over Amazon because their expertise in these kids of products and their q&a system and the fact that they host all of the supplemental info like labels etc. hope all that helps

certainty is an effective option for centipede and it targets a lot of stuff. Give it a look. I am considering using it next week to help kill off my annual rye to transition back to bermuda for the main growing season.
