Should be noted that the singer on this track is Susanne Sundfør, a very talented singer/songwriter. Songs like White Foxes, Knight of Noir, The Sound of War, and Accelerate, to mention but a few. Definitely recommend checking out her performance of White Foxes at the Nobel Peace Prize concert in 2012. She was also featured as singer with M83 on the theme for the film Oblivion. Of which there's a good live performance from the Jimmy Kimmel show.
The song was written after the massacre in 2011 in Norway, where extremist Breivik killed 69 kids and youths at Utøya island. Many fled to the sea and were shot there, so you understood correctly.
The lyrics is written after the terror on Utøya - and the video is also playing with symbols of sorrow and loss, from "norse mythology" in the light of the Utøya terror.

They don't hide from pain in Norway. They deal with it as a society. The South African (?) proverb "It takes a whole village to raise a child" has never been more relevant than after the terrorattack 22/7 2011 in Norway. Out of the pain there are now insanely great young talented and creative artists who don't shy away from difficult topics. And because they were allowed to mourn, and encouraged to try and put words, or otherwise express what they felt, the rest of us today can enjoy a generation of artists like Ane Brun, Susanne Sundfør, Angelina Jordan, Aurora Aksnes, Sigrid Raabe, Askjell, Emilie Nicolas, Madrugada Highasakite, and Lene Marie Fossen. All of them with talents way above the level of being talented, and all of them strong personalities and ready to share their knowledge's and insights to the world.
The song is about the mass shooting in norway. The father in the video lost his daughter. He moved into the wilderness to get as far away from death as he could. But death followed him there, he couldnt escape it.

I've never clicked faster. Fantastic band. They're like Daft Punk if they hadn't run out of ideas and had personalities. They can do banging dance tunes and thoughtful experimental tunes without breaking sweat. They very nearly split recently, but have been putting unreleased tracks up on RU-vid every month or so for a while. Big fan here.
Not so easy to pronounce norwegian names, especially when they've got a letter that doesn't exist in the english alphabet. The band name is taken from a type of fungus or mushroom (not sure about the classification) that disintegrates when you touch it. The singer on this track is Susanne Sundför (Sundfør really). She is one of the best norwegian singers of all time. She has released 6 albums and additionally worked with different groups such as Röyksopp and M83 (Oblivion soundtrack). For some even darker material I would recommend "The brothel." For something more fastpaced you could try " Fade away." I would also recommend "White foxes" live at the Nobel peace prize concert 2012. She has a wonderful and easily recognizable voice, and some deep lyrics.

Sometimes it's hard to wrap yer head around how you don't notice folks until they get famous, she's a bit younger than me, but she was at my school a few grades below me when I was a teen, didn't even know she existed until she suddenly became a famous artist, anyone around ya could turn out to be a huge talent in something... Suddenly seeing some local Norwegian girl from my small town on American TV because she sang in the soundtrack to a Tom Cruise movie.
