R 1200 GS Tear Down: Removing the fuel tank, fittings and associated assemblies

In this video, I remove the fuel tank and all the fittings and assemblies on or in it. Along the way, I learn some important lessons and how to properly siphon gas out of a nearly full fuel tank.
Tools needed:
* Special screw cap tool
* Small, thin screwdriver
* T15 torx driver
Please note I am not trying to save or salvage any parts (unless so stated) from this motorcycle, so I may engage in destructive behavior not conducive to reusing some parts. Post if you have questions and I'll do my best to answer.

The title should reflect that you are actually parting out this bike. I'm fairly certain someone who is searching for a way to change the fuel pump on their GS should know to not go ripping and clipping in the manner shown.

I would have almost certainly removed the gas tank from the bike before taking apart the fuel pump.

Why did you do this in the first place? Has that bike turned into a parts bike? Member of MOA for over 25 yrs. Sub'd and T-Up! Thanks for posting the video.

Yes - it was a parts bike. I bought it specifically to get the computers and ignition system to fix a glitch on my main bike (at the time).

Does anyone know where one could buy that flange tool shown at 4:55?

You should be able to get one at any BMW motorcycle dealer. Try Wunderlich America and Euro Moto Electrics too, and it looks like Dennis Kirk has a tool that might work.
