Yeah, my dad saw a group of teen girls. He saw that they didn't close their car's hood all the way (they were checking the oil.) So he asked me to walk up and say something. Since they looked to be 15 (you can drive at 15 1/2, if you take driver's Ed) to 16, and were between 5'3 and 5'5. And my dad was worried that if he tried to approach them (he was 48 and 6'), they would drive off quickly and get into an accident. So he sent me to talk to them. They were still a bit nervous, but they did fully close their hood, so yeah. Men do know that kind of thing makes young women nervous and fearful.

She just made people bring things so /she/ wouldn't have to provide food or drinks at her own parties. I nearly had to explain to her what poverty is and that the people bringing these dishes have no idea they're being thrown out immediately or they wouldn't have brought them at all. Her response was that 'well maybe poor people shouldn't come then' It shouldn't surprise me that later she was discovered to have been abusing her pets. Things you'd assume were unrelated, but unfortunately a lack of empathy explained both.

"That is against my HIPAA law!" Okay, so I actually worked in a job where I did have to learn a bit about HIPAA. HIPAA is all about protecting someone's medical information. I was working in a pharmacy and had to be trained in some aspects of the law in order to do my job, but even then, I definitely didn't have to learn nearly enough about it to be an expert on it. From my limited understanding of it, I know it's about how certain companies are supposed to handle sensitive data about patients so it's not leaked to individuals who would do things like steal prescriptions (especially the really hard stuff like amphetamines and other addictive substances) or use that data to harm the patient. I'm sure there are other aspects to the law, I'm just not familiar with it because my job duties did not extend very far. So no, HIPAA has absolutely nothing to do with being recorded or anything else about what you or other people can do in public.

That water bottle story reminds me of this one time I went thrifting. It was around Halloween of last year so the thrift store had some old packaged costumes, and one of them was a culturally insensitive “Indian costume”. I was looking around the costumes and this big conservative-looking guy walks up to me, points at that costume, and starts talking endlessly at me about “yeah, I’m BUYING this. I’m buying this for my DAUGHTER. My KID will be WEARING THIS for Halloween.” He clearly expected me to get offended, but I was just… extremely confused, nodded, and told him that I hope his daughter has fun on Halloween.
