When we buried my Mother in Law, just the basic cost of the funeral alone was I think about 8-9k. My MIL didn't want anything fancy and her life insurance didn't cover everything, I believe it covered around half of it. If a friend of the family hadn't stepped up and gave her time, I don't know what we would have done. Only thing is, we didn't get so lucky because said friend wound up keeping my MIL's purse with all her personal items such as rings, checkbook, just random things. That was in 2008, we still have yet to see that purse and we have contacted her multiple times. I appreciate what she did, but that was the one thing my husband wanted badly of his mother's.

The grandmother was out of line... way out of line. We lost a son at 27 weeks and it is just a mess of devastating shock that you enter. The hospital was not helpful at guiding us at all and we actually left AMA due to one nurse in particular. But the funeral home that handled our son's remains was beyond amazing. Their kindness and ability to help us find some sort of closure, and at their expense, was one of the few things that kept us from losing our minds. When my sister lost her daughter prematurely before us the same funeral home director stood graveside during the hottest day of the year, declining to remove his jacket when told by my sisters husband it was okay, in respect to my deceased niece. Let alone the cost, the care that many funeral homes put into helping little ones on their journey's deserves more than a thank you but there just are not words big enough to cover the gratitude they deserve.

I am so sorry for your losses. Fortunately when we lost our baby at 18 weeks the hospital was wonderful and they provide a funeral regularly for free for parents of miscarried babies, no matter how old. It was a beautiful service and I sobbed my way through. They were so comforting and caring though. I hear stories like yours and it's my sincere hope that more hospitals will recognize that parents do grieve so deeply at the loss of their babies that they deserve the same care and consideration that other grieving families get when they have to say goodbye to their parents or grandparents.

I’ve been to one funeral for a child that died several days after birth. It was a child belonging to my (now) husband’s cousin. I did not know the parents or much of the family at this point in dating my husband. But there was nothing that prepared me for seeing a casket that small. I probably sobbed harder at that funeral than any other, including those involving immediate family. Perhaps it was a bit different seeing something like that for the first time, but it’s something I hope never to see again.

Hey RSlash, the world of ED (eating disorders) is very complex and consists of more than just restrictions and calorie counting. There are also avoidant eating disorders, that prevent folks from eating a diverse array of food. I'm someone who is very picky on a good day, and at the height of my eating disorder, that meant that even considering trying new foods sent me into a spiraling panic attack. Unknown "soup, stew, or chilli" would definitely apply. Whereas pizza is generally considered a "safe" food in my mind.
@Ikajo
@Ikajo Год назад
Food in general is very complex. I have stomach issues and can't eat spicy food. A lot of people probably don't think too much about it. But a soup, stew, or chili could very well be too spicy for me. Add in a few food sensitivities and I would also be reluctant to get unknown food from someone. No matter the kindness behind it. A pizza on the other hand is something I can control, I would know exactly what goes on it and what to expect. So I can definitely see why that would be preferable. On the other hand, I know quite a few cheap and simple foods I can make.
@raveneldawnstar
@raveneldawnstar Год назад
I've had stomach problems my whole life and this is exactly it. Mine is more related to some unknown issue, possibly related to Fibro (maybe???) but, just as you said, eating something unknown is terrifying because it could have some ingredient the well intended person gifted that could actually make me incredibly ill, whereas [insert other food here] is safe. Like bread. Bread or pie or cake is safe. For some reason, my stomach won't get mad at sugary foods or fruit, which for me has always, ALWAYS been weird. So, to an outsider, me saying "hey, I can eat a slice of cake, but I can't eat that steak and veggies", would sound very strange, if not flat out fake; but it's true on a very bad stomach day. And I get it. It does sound weird, but bodies are weird. I wish you luck, PPP.
@anon6442
@anon6442 Год назад
To add to this, someone I know who has something similar to this if they try are able to try a new food and it ends up not being a good food for them it can cause them to be physically ill if they continue to try and eat it. So trying an unknown "soup, stew, or chilli" could just end up wasting food and make everyone feel worst then going for a safe food.

I forced myself once for my friends grandma because she is nice, but it truly was horrible texture. The flavor was okay though. So to add to this, some folks can have issues with textures as well. For me, cheese is a safe texture no matter what form, whilst ground meats make me feel disgusted and unable to eat

It depends. Food sensitivity can be tricky. I can't eat spicy food, so I wouldn't feel comfortable accepting food from a stranger like that either. What they might consider mild could wreck my stomach. An ED can also involve food aversions. It can cause physical issues due to mental blockage.

Hey rslash, I have an eating disorder called ARFID, and it makes me eat primarily unhealthy foods like burgers. ARFID stands for avoidant restrictive food intake disorder, and the effects are quite complex. The sight, smell, or texture of specific food can make the affected person nauseous or vomit, occasionally without warning. I can't eat a lot of potato dishes because of it, mash is the worst in terms of how it affects me. Just the sight of how it moves makes me feel the texture in my mouth, and I vomit. I don't know if the guy has ARFID, but it would make sense with his sensitive stomach and preferring to eat pizza because of that ED. Edit: actually, note that all the foods he listed he was unable to eat (soup, stew, chili) is all liquid food. I don't often eat soup because my ARFID affects it, and I can only eat half a bowl or so before the nausea becomes unbearable. It might genuinely be ARFID.

I love how for the ones like the Subway one at 5:33 he says it in a normal voice because it sounds like a genuine person who just needs help but then goes into the "Karen" voice when they start talking about the price because that's the part where everyone realizes that the person posting is the CB. TLDR: Amazing Voice Work

My aunt worked for the voice us she worked at a catering company and she hates the show till this day. She said they were impossible to work with. Returning food that was worked on for weeks. They submitted what they’d like and their allergies way ahead of time. And everytime there was “something” wrong with the food. They would refuse to eat and tell them to to take it back going as far as to throw the food away. Most of the food was generic to avoid violating anyone’s food allergies or preferences. It was like salads gluten free pastries vegan and normal sandwiches. The usual things you’d see at a gathering of people with allergies and food preferences.

Actually disordered eating can be considered many things! The person could have an aversion to soups, stews and chili because there are many ingredients that you often can’t differentiate from and may cause triggers for some people. However Pizza is a comfort food that a lot of people grew up eating and associate with happy times, safety, etc. And it’s simple

I'm an apprentice funeral director and we have this thing called a "non declinable fee" under the FTC rule. One of those fees is for use of facilities and the use of a licensed funeral directors services (I.e running a funeral, arranging flowers, casketing remains). Those things all fall under the duties of a funeral director that u pay for when u choose a funeral home to run a funeral. So technically the funeral director shouldn't have even waved that fee for them

Story 3: My dad and uncle owns a blacksmith business that has been in our family for >100 years, still located in the same buildings as 150 years ago. TV production companies will sometimes reach out for permission to film there and to get free stuff in return for "exposure". Only they don't want some cake pops, they want hand crafted merch worth $25,000. Last time they let a TV show film in their location they had to close down business for a full day, and by the end of it they didn't get their "exposure" because it went against the network's advertising protocol. If the TV producers did their research they would realize that the company doesn't even need the "exposure". Some of the returning customers include very high ranking people in my country's economy, and the royal family. Also, the big money is in construction not in the fancy art stuff they want to show on TV.

You can have textual EDs where you have certain “safe foods” that don’t induce anxiety. While I don’t have this ED, I understand not liking foods because of textures, so I’m not going to fault pizza OP for that. Some may see it as rude but I don’t. And we all are entitled to feel how we do about people’s behavior like that :)

You did fine with that last one. Hearing stories like this from the outside perspective might just be enough for at least some people to catch themselves before doing the same. And it’s disgusting behavior. I have a friend who lost a son in a terrible accident. Apparently her narcissistic MIL came up to her at the funeral and started bawling her out, blaming her for his death. Considering he died on his way to pick up his little brother from school, I’m sure she was already blaming herself, and here’s this shrew tearing her a new one AT THE FUNERAL! Man, I don’t care if grandma was grieving, there is a line and if you’re a decent person at all, you’re capable of recognizing when you’ve crossed that line. Scream, yell, cry, fuss, but to blame the mother for her own child’s death at a funeral? And she’s not a decent person, she’s the type who is never happy with anything ESPECIALLY if my friend is involved. The lady in this story is almost as bad imho. I dunno whether she gave her DIL a similar attitude at any point about the stillbirth but she seems like the type to do it.
