I am worried about the kid in the first story. Maybe it is just me, but whenever an adult has a barely clothed/inproperly clothed child, I think the following: 1) The child was kidnapped 2) The parents are abusive

Arranged marriages are a tradition that needs to be stay in the past. And the one with the aunt trying to come between the boy n his terminal mother pissed me off.

For the story about the mom with cancer telling off the shit aunt, if you've ever had to see someone with terminal cancer, the fact that this woman had her coffee and toast while telling off her toxic sister was so uplifting, and honestly she sounds like a God damn BOSS

The OP in the first story should've called the cops and told them about the whole situation. Should've added that "I don't know if it could be the case but i think it might be a kidnapping because the child seemed scared."

arranged marriages also happen here in the states. my parents sold me out to a boy before i was even in first grade because his family had more money than ours. by the time i was in high school i had been in a relationship for 2 years which my parents told them was just "puppy love" and that there was no problem with the arrangement. that all came to a halt when I graduated and they told me it was time to get married. I told them there was no way I was getting married at 18 and that my bf hadnt even proposed. that's when I found out about the marriage they had set up. I went off on them and moved in with a friend for a while. a few weeks later, the asshole actually showed up at her house in a tux with a limo. when I came to the door I was in jeans and a t-shirt. he was pissed and asked me why I wasn't ready to go to the church. I told him that I wasn't religious and never go to church. he said it was time for our wedding and I laughed in his face. I told him if he wanted to get married so bad that he should try proposing to his right hand, as I knew that they had a very intimate relationship. my father called later, and was pissed. he had promised me to him long ago, and that it was my duty to marry him, and let him take my virginity on our wedding night. I told him "surprise dad. im not a virgin. I lost that when I was 15". Im 38 now and haven't seen or spoken to my parents since I was 18. I heard that the boy got married to some gutter trash whore, and that the family lost all their social standing from the scandal of a woman with self respect. I feel no pity or regret whatsoever.

Honestly that first one almost sounds like that girl is a kidnap victim.

The one about life support pisses me off to my core. I'm a paramedic and as such have to deal with these idiots who jet in at the end to yank the DNR and force me to work the code (CPR, intubation, defibrillation, medication, etc.) against the patient's wishes. Look folks, I'm 100% for trying to save the person if they can be saved. I'll give you a piece of advice (one that is in my living will and advanced directives), If a doctor recommends a DNR, feel free to get a second opinion from another doctor. Please, do your due diligence and make sure that there is no other way. That being said, if the second doctor says to get a DNR, sign the damn DNR and DO NOT revoke it for any reason. I just worked a code the other day for this situation. The husband is primary caregiver with hospice nurse visits each day. The daughter comes to see the mom one day, and just happens to pick the day where she is actively on the way out. She calls us and demands that we save her, and take her to a hospital forty five miles away when there was one less than half that distance. Spoiler alert, she passed anyway because at that point, you can't stop the inevitable and you're just prolonging it.

The last story reminds me of that news clip where a kid had been shot BREAKING INTO a house... the kid's family was on the news COMPLAINING and blaming the home owner because the 19 year old 'child' that broke in was just, "trying to get some clothes for school..." Which was obviously not true, he was a crook... literally.. and even IF it was, then it was the FAMILY'S fault for not providing the kid with school clothes... I believe they also tried to sue the homeowner... people are actually INSANE these days..

I may not have reddit, but boy do I have an r/Entitledparents story. Make that an r/Entitledteacher story. To give some context, I have a heart condition, and recently I've been having some medical issues like heart palpitations and chest pain. So my doctor prescribed a 30-day holter monitor for me. Sometimes the monitors have a rectangular shape, and SOMETIMES entitled substitute teachers consider such monitors as phones. I was minding my own business in class, when the entitled substitute teacher (technically an entitled parent since she has a son who goes to my school) spotted my monitor and instantly assumed it was a phone in my pocket. EST- "IS THAT A PHONE?" she gestures to my holter monitor. Me- "um, that's actually a--" EST- "GIVE ME THE PHONE!" Me- But it's not-- EST- GIVE IT TO ME NOW! I refused to let her have it. Reminder that the 'phone' is attached to me with leads and stickers, and taking off those leads are very painful. I kept trying to explain to her, but she wouldn't listen. EST- PUT IT IN THE PHONE BOX!!" she points to the phone box on the desk. That's when a good idea sparked into my head. I went over to the phone box, put the monitor in there, then stood next to the desk. A couple students started snickering, since they knew it was a monitor and not a phone. EST- See?? That wasn't so bad! You can go sit down now. I try not to laugh as I started walking away from the teacher's desk. As I did that, the phone box and the monitor came crashing down behind me. The holter monitor was dragging the phone box along the floor as I went back to my desk and sat down. Entitled Substitute teacher was perplexed by what she was seeing. She clearly wanted no part of my silly nonsense and physically tried to take the monitor away from me. "GIVE ME THAT" she tugged so hard, one of the leads almost came off. I wrapped one arm around me and took the holter monitor away with the other. "This is not a phone! It's. a. MONITER!" Entitled substitute teacher just gave me a look, then picked up the phone box and went back to her desk. I finally put the monitor back into my pocket and went on with my day. The incident did piss me off, but after I told my mom what happened, Entitled substitute teacher got into huge trouble with administration. I don't know if they fired her or not, but I sure hope they did.

I am from India, so once I was over 25 and still not married and single my relatives whenever I go to visit them came up with potential marriage proposals. They constantly remind me that my parents are getting older and it's my duty to give them happiness( grandchildren) which my parents never asked for of course. My parents are the coolest parents you ever asked for. So eventually I stop going to my relative's home, even avoid talking to them over the phone.

I know theirs a lot of dislike in the comment section about the arranged marriage, but I have to correct. In the story was attempted of FORCED marriage. In which two people are force to marry without any consent and only benefit the family. In ARRANGED marriage are two people picked to marry WITH CONSENT of the two people. So they both wanted to be arranged and soon later will decide if they want to be together. :)

I just lost my mom last week. I didn't even have power of attorney just designated as her health care advocate. She had a DNR on file with the hospital and I could have revoked it at any time and demanded life support and extreme measures be taken. When you have these decision making powers you can change anything once the patient is incapable of making their own choices. The story was wrong. Nothing is final simply because it's "on file". But, I honored her wishes, held her hand and said goodbye. You don't know hard until you have these decision-making powers given to you.

The aunt who called OP selfish in the cancer story...wow that hits close. My grandma died from colon cancer shortly after my 8th birthday and my mom was her primary caretaker. We bought a house down the street from her home so that she could still maintain as much of her dignity as possible in her own home. Throughout the 18 months she was sick (her prognosis was 6 months but she was a fighter!) , we spent every day with her. Yet barely anyone else in my family even visited her. Her sisters, my great aunts have always been stuck up and handfuls to deal with. One day my great aunt was talking with my aunt (who visited and helped all she could) and made a comment about how they were "Babying" my grandma. My aunt said "She's DYING. She HAS CANCER" and my great aunt said "We're all dying. That doesn't mean shes going to be the first to go!" I've got many stories about them but man that came rushing back. There's a reason I barely speak to anyone but immediate family at this point.

It's entirely possible that ED and QC in story 1 are victims of domestic violence. He may have had to pull her out of bed quickly to prevent violence against her. Which would also explain why they're both miserable. Everyone has a story. He might be having to find a hotel after stopping so she can use a bathroom. Horrible people tend to put good people in horrible situations. And good people in horrible situations tend to be in a bad mood because of it.

I remember my old school was quite old and had a flat roof and skylights over the changing rooms. Some of the kids went onto the school property at night (which is basically trespassing) and then climbed on the roof to commit some sort of vandalism. One of the little cherubs walked over one of the skylights and, being very old, it gave way and the boy fell through and into the changing room, impaling the underside of his chin on one of the coat hooks below. The fun part was that the little brat's parents sued the school for the kid getting seriously injured whilst in the property (even though he was there illegally) and they WON! I'm not sure what world we like in where criminals get better justice than the victims, but that payout that the school had to make to settle the suit meant they were unable to afford to repair the boiler, resulting in many closed days over winter while we were all sent home as it was too cold inside and the local authority fining the school for the number of enforced closures. So the computer facility that was being upgraded was postponed as well, due to lack of funds.

I've got an EP story for you... I worked at an upscale salon and day spa that wasn't necessarily a "kid friendly" venue as it was a place to relax and be pampered. Our massage room had a curtain instead of a door. One day this woman came in for a haircut with two young girls in tow. They were probably about 2 and 4 years old. We had a self-serve coffee bar in the waiting area, but also offered teas and cocoa, with a Keurig. The woman let her 4 year old make coffee. For HERSELF! Many of us were shocked and uncomfortable, thinking the mother didn't realize what her daughter was doing. The EM just stares and flatly says "my daughter likes coffee. " The spa owner, being a mother herself, showed them that we had cocoa but the EM got defensive as her 2 and 4 year old shared a cup of coffee while splashing it all over the antique furniture.

One of the kids my parents fostered recently got a sentence for stabbing someone to death. A friend at my school was stabbed in the hand after someone pulled out a knife after being called Voldemort. He tried to stab my friend in the neck over being called Voldemort. He wasn’t even the one who said it. The guy got arrested on a public bus and was expelled from my schools onsite sixth form/college. My mate has one arm in a cast and sling and may never regain full control of his fingers. The fostered kid was a really nice guy, but poor life choices ruin a person. Don’t make the same mistakes. I myself have been done for knife possession, and for trying to harm someone, though I’m my defence, he was trying to hit me with a plank/2by4 this is in the UK by the way, which explains a lot, though someone got shot near my house recently. Seriously though, please don’t get involved with gangs, don’t do anything you will regret, and respect others. I got done for illegal possession at 14 that’s on my record forever, the guy who stabbed my friend will get prison time and will have that on his record for life, and the fostered kid will likely be in prison for a very long time. Everyone involved is or was a nice guy, but was changed by what they did. To anyone who actually read this whole thing: don’t you have something better to do, and also thank you, and take notice.

If someone has a DNR, that is a personal decision. My great-grandma had one and had it written out that she didn't want any excessive treatment to prolong life. My grandmother was in charge of her affairs, and when my great-grandma had a stroke at the facility she was living at, they took her in an ambulance to the hospital. My grandmother was not able to ride with her (for reasons I do not recall, but that angered my grandmother at the time BECAUSE of the DNR), and the folks in the ambulance ended up resuscitating her. My grandma was pissed at first, but she let it slide simply because she saw it as a blessing so the family could say goodbye. My great-grandma was put into a coma for several days after that first night until she finally passed, but my grandmother still fought hard against every doctor who offered to put in a pacemaker or other medical treatments to extend her life. She was suffering from dementia, so it was already difficult for her to know who anyone was, and her quality of life already was terrible so extending it would only add to her suffering. So yea...that stuff is no joke, and it is legally binding. Idk why this family member NEEDED to be present at this mother's passing, and maybe I'm a bit jaded to think this, but I doubt her reasoning was simply "to say goodbye."

That aunt in the arranged marriage story was a sociopath who enjoyed having power over someone else, because she was once in a helpless position of being forced to marry someone against her will. She didn't see children as people, she saw them as an opportunity to make herself feel better by attempting to control them the way her parents controlled her. It was a cycle of power (not sure how to phrase it), where the once-helpless victim continues the system by taking their anger out on others. In that "I did the thing, therefore it would be unfair if you were to not do the thing" kind of mentality

I'm an Indian man , yes this Aranged marriage puts a lot of pressure I was always scared to go on dates or pursue my dreams in education as it would be inappropriate for the family's name. All of this has made me very scared of what type of a person would I end up with. Parents always guild trip kids into submitting to them. I'm 24 now and my parents have started to search for a bride ,I feel I have not lived my youth yet, I want to just party and travel fortunately I'm financially stable but i still have to secretly drink alcohol as my parents still treat me as a child, and yes since I live in a joint family everyone freaks out if I don't come before 10 pm .honestly all of this is suffocating.

The fact that the kid from the first story was in pajamas and looked scared makes me think she may have been kidnapped from her home. I truly hope that isn’t the case thoufh
