I am so tired of narcissistic parents using home ownership as an excuse to feel entitled to other people's stuff. My mom uses it as an excuse to open my mail.

After several years of marriage, we moved into the IL's house for a year. Our mail kept being opened, so we got a POB, and that settled that. They were offended, and LDH looked at them and said that they had kept opening our mail even after being requested to stop doing so. Huff, huff, bitch, bitch, grumble. We kept the POB until we moved out of their home. It made life MUCH easier!

@@markwilson4078 However, since it's because "the economy", does that mean he doesn't pay rent to his parents? If he does pay rent then his mother is totally wrong. But if he doesn't, then should he buy extra cheese cake and sodas for his parents, as a thank you for letting him and his fiancee live there rent free, in the first place? RE: the lady using her dead Mom’s handicapped hanger….I had a coworker doing the same thing using a dead Aunts hanger. She always parked at work in a handicapped spot. This irritated me (& several others too). Months later I was told she was busted when the police saw her illegally parking. They ran the hanger numbers & saw that the person it was designated for was dead for over a year. At this point the police were writing up the ticket when the cheater returned. In the end the Police impounded the hanger & handed the large ticket to the lady. To top matters off the woman had the gall to complain about her ticket & that the Police were so mean to take away the dead Aunt’s hanger.

That first story was crazy. I am a mother of four adult children that still live with me and my husband and I wouldn't dare think to touch anything they bought with their hard earned money. I can get my own food and we all don't mind sharing either way. Asking is so much better than stealing. What kind of mother does that and makes her child feel as if they have to lock up their food in their bedroom? That's just wrong. I'm thinking the parents are getting public assistance and they are nickle and diming their kids for everything so they can get away with not working to buy their own food.

Story 5: 1. Press criminal charges against Lana and her brother. 2. Get a restraining order ASAP! When she inevitably violates it by entering your property again she will be guilty of criminal trespass. Call the cops again! 3. File in small claims or regular civil court for the car damage. You could also claim intentional infliction of emotional distress and may have other claims. Asking a lawyer for advice will probably be well worth the cost of an hour consultation.

Story 5 - You’re absolutely right. 1. OP is NOT the A-hole for not accepting the neighbors offer. And 2. People like Lana need to learn the hard way that their actions have consequences. If OP took the offer then she’ll take it as ‘I’m free to do whatever I want because Mommy and Daddy will take care of everything for me.’ She thought it was funny to ruin her Ex’s car, let’s see if she thinks Juvenile Detention is funny.
@warmon6
@warmon6 Год назад
Yep, you hit the nail right on the head! Better to teach it now, hard, than letting that carry it on. Let it carry on and Lana will find herself in the same situation as my neighbor's boyfriend ex-wife is learning now. The ex-wife thought damaging my neighbor's property, slashing tires, putting trackers (with audio recording capabilities) on vehicles, threatening messages (from both real and spoofed numbers), violating restraining orders, and many other things was totally fine because "mommy could bail her out of anything and was above the law". (And the mom has done the same of offering payment to repair/replace, therapy, etc. My neighbor foolishly accepted the offer in the past with no change to behavior) Lets just say ex-wife has been very quiet the last two months as of now because she realized that mommy cant bail her out of this problem. Something about state attorneys or whatever not letting it slide. (Not in jail yet but the court date is soon)

Morally, shouldn't take the offer. It'll teach a bad lesson. However, Legally, they should as that's the best option on the table from any party. The courts do not like it when people refuse to work with the other side and go all in on suing instead. Insurance would refuse to pay a penny because of the other person's offer either. Since that saves them money.

There's also a part that ppl seem to miss, the parents also said they would send lana to therapy... Now call me crazy, but that seems to me she will learn actions have consequences, maybe not this severe now, but at least she will get help for her psychotic tendencies which might work. Sooo... try that first, see if it helps, if it doesn't help, then make her pay instead of her parents.... I think the parents started to realise their kids r unhinged, son is already in jail, they might want to try and make sure their daughter maybe has a chance and get better and thus stay out of jail when she's older, make her learn through therapy.... i'd say, accept that offer and maybe it works... if she has mental problems, it's always worth to try and correct that instead of immediatly going the full hard way.... Even ppl with mental problems can still learn to behave through therapy. Just my 2 cents.

Story 2: As someone who works retail, I can personally vouch that not all cards being declined are due to Insufficient Funds. My telling you your card was declined is not necessarily telling you that you're broke. Half the time, we don't even see *why* it's declined (my system says either declined or cancelled by customer). Could be for a number of reasons: typo on entering the PIN, hit a spending limit, suspected fraud, expired, hit a wrong button altogether (also known as User Error, and I could go on about that one...likely the problem in this story), pulled the card out too soon if it's a chip reader, and more things that I haven't experienced that others probably have. The reason for why the card was declined is NEVER an excuse to get upset with staff or yell at them. I am so sorry OP, that was a bastard of a couple :/

I'll tell you what I consider that woman's problem: guilt driven insanity. She probably screamed her crippled mother to death and is screaming at you because she hates her past behavior. forevermore, I think, with her mother dead, she's seeking other people to bully. So I think she may come after you further and is a danger to you.....AS LONG AS YOU ACT NICE. My advice, video/audio record her whenever legal, file all such charges you can against her constantly, including restraining orders, stalking charges, no trespassing orders, stay 50-500 feet away orders. Eventually, she'll think you're trying to sabotage her life and you're gathering more and more evidence to jail her or to commit her to a psych ward. Then she'll abandon her quest of making you her bully target. The more you act nice & fair, the more she'll hate you for being nicer than her. Where she a man, I think she would rape you. Perhaps she is a rape victim, and perhaps she is a false reporter of rape. Sounds like the false rape reporter to me, if you're reporting is exacting. Can't tell without talking to her & seeing her myself.

Browsing the comments, seems like it's just me: Story 3, COMPLETELY lost about those "parallel parking" spots, like huh? Every place I've been, parking lots have been 100% parking lot spots, slots next to slots. I can't picture what these parallel spots would be like, how they would fit in. Also, that they're next to the sidewalk? Every parking lot I've seen, right next to the sidewalk is where people drive, seemingly so people can make drop-offs and pickups like this OP did. I'm confused how parking the wrong way would interfere with handicapped people using other spaces properly? What _I'VE_ seen is handicapped spots that were extra wide, like accounting for 1.5 or 2 normal spaces, to offer space for wheelchairs, ramps, etc. (Too bad it's of no use to me, my wheelchair goes in the trunk). Story 4: I HATE "or I'll call the police". Don't warn, just do it. And how many warnings do they get? At most it should be one and done. They are guilty, call the police immediately. How often is it that things escalate and it's like "Wish I had called the police already"? It's not like they're bordering on an offence, being aggressive or something, they out-and-out COMMITTED a crime! They are already guilty! They should be processed by police! The only reason not to call when it happened is because they already left, it was too late to catch them, now they're found! They're caught! Drop the hammer! Should have called the police as soon as they exited but didn't leave the property, so they'd already be on their way when Karen was yelling! And yeah, once the mom was shown, she should have been on the hook for the $30... Last story: No a-hole, though their offer sounds good... Still, add some actual punishment to Lana as consequences, just that a new car sounds appropriate, and therapy sounds more than, that it's necessary. If they want to save her from legal consequences, they need to offer up some DAMN severe replacement punishment, like wow!
