For anyone wondering about that "former boss dropping 91,500 pennies on ex-employee's driveway thing" he did all of this because the ex-employee was getting tired of waiting for his last paycheck to come in, so he notified the department of Labor who called the boss. The boss' reason for doing this? Well in his own words he said he wanted to "make this guy realize what a disgusting example of a human being he is,” Oh and he's also using the company's website to try and defame the ex-employee by saying shit like "Let us just say that maybe he stole? Maybe he killed a dog? Maybe he killed a cat? Maybe he was lazy? Maybe he was a butcher?” Sufficed to say, he's now being sued by the Department of Labor for failing to pay his employees properly, owing just under $37,000 in backpay, and being an overall piece of shit.

I've been thinking about the Jeffrey database issue for a long time and my thought is, Jeffrey may be flagged as the CEO in some old part of the database that he cannot be removed from that role but anybody else who is named Jeffrey ends up getting paid the same amount as him. In theory they should modernize so they can hire other Jeffreys but as long as they keep using this old ancient program that is completely broken they can't afford to accidentally pay a second Jeffrey what the CEO is being paid. They may also be unable to modernize because the last time a second Jeffrey was hired they went into so much debt that they are still trying to recover from it. Alternatively it may be that for some reason in the deep dark bowels of the code, the name Jeffrey somehow causes a complete malfunction in the database, and no one who knows foxpro is alive anymore.

From what I've heard, the Jeffrey problem is actually with the name "Geoffrey," as a poorly designed program would read the "e-o-f" in the middle of the name as "End of File." Add on some inter-departmental communication issues and a reluctance to actually fix the problem database, and you get this. Jeffrey is probably dodging a bullet by not being hired there.

Coinstar actually did a bit of a PR stunt and washed all of those pennies and paid out the nearly $915 to the victim. Good move, Coinstar!

For the whole name conflicting with software/database thing, as someone who has two surnames (not with a hyphen, straight up two names, e.g. Smith Jones (not my real surnames)), I can confirm that a certain name can break software. More than once my having two last names has just... broken systems. They usually have to add a hyphen or combine them in order for it to work, or say my first surname is actually my middle name (it is not, I do have a middle name and that is not it). It is extremely annoying, but I can't give software too much flack for it as my surname has broken humans too. For some reason some people just cannot comprehend having two surnames. EDIT: I am not married, my mother is not married, it's not a combination thing, this is literally both of our maiden names.
