@@susanmccormick6022 I agree with the order you put them in, but I'm still most partial to Peter. There was just something about him, still trying to figure it out. He could play classical music beautifully, turn around and act like a complete fool, then have a very intelligent conversation in an interview. He was all over the place. Still miss him (and the others, too, of course).

When I watched the show as a child in the 80's, I liked Mike as he was the leader and strong. Peter reminded me of a male version of myself as I felt goofy and shy. However, I have been rediscovering them during lockdown and watching stuff I hadn't seen before. Peter was fabulous. He had such a beautiful smile. I hate thinking that he must have suffered so much when his health failed. He was very brave. RIP

I still adore Peter to this day. There was so much more to him than met the eye. He was an intellectual, but you couldn't tell because he always clowned around so much. I think it came out when he was doing his solo shows. He was very interesting to listen to. I am so sorry he's gone and hate to think he suffered. RIP you beautiful man. You will be remembered.

It looks like Davy saves his energy for their concerts, when I saw them at the Greek Theater on Sept. 7, 1986 ( one day after my birthday) they were running, jumping all over the stage at times, Davy REALLY had that audience by the neck and he DOES NOT let go - takes off his white coat and throws it across the stage - running and singing "Valleri!"...

Is Davy wearing the SAME white coat he was wearing when I saw them at the Greek theater in 1986, later Davy takes off the white coat, throws it across the stage and is running and pointing his finger while his singing "Valleri" - NOT always, but at times the three of them were running, dancing, AND jumping all over that stage! You're only seeing a small portion of their act. The way I see it, THAT Davy grabs the audience by the neck, and HE WON'T LET GO...

I think I have a VHS of this somewhere...this REALLY brings back memories! I became a Monkees fan thanks to their 20th Anniversary Reunion. I remember they were being criticized for being "old;" I guess back then, if a performer was in his/her 40s, he/she was considered old(some performer was mimicking them by singing their theme song and moving a walker, saying, "Why couldn't my mother invent White Out," referring to Mike Nesmith's mother). I was 16 then. I'd thought, "Gosh, I was born too late!" and "I think Davy is trying to fit in with that hairstyle." I'd seen the Monkees perform as a trio 9 times with the energy of men HALF their age. Additionally I saw Davy perform solo twice and met him personally three times in which I got his autograph(and a kiss!)...February 29, 2012 would be a day of absolute shock and heartbreak for me...and I believe those who knew Davy would agree. Since then, I've been unable to go to another Monkees show because to face the realization that Davy won't be there--though I've heard that they use videos of him, but it's not the same--would be even more heartbreaking. I think back to what Micky had said when Mike joined them for the tribute tour right after Davy passed; it was something to the effect of, "I was waiting for Davy...then I realized he wasn't there." Rest in peace, David Thomas Jones.

I thought they were the bomb back then. I knew Micky Dolenz wasn't really playing on those videos but i figured it was only cuz it was a video not a sound recording and sound would be added later. Eventually they all played an instrument or instruments on later albums. But to be fair, it absolutely was their voices on the recordings. No Milli Vanilli act here. Numerous other period bands used studio musicians. Beach Boys and others. The Monkees deserve their due in my opinion. Mike Nesmith and Peter Tork did play even on early albums btw. I listen to those LPs now and the sound is so primitive, raw and unprocessed or run through the effects. To me their stuff still holds up today. Mike Nesmith (Texas boy) wrote their best stuff. I especially like "What Am I Doin' Hanging' 'round"
@PlumbPitiful
@PlumbPitiful Год назад
Ironically that was not one of the songs Mike wrote! What Am I Doing Hangin' Round was written by Michael Martin Murphy. Of the five songs Mike sang on the Pisces-Aquarius album he only wrote one of them (Don't Call On Me). He also wrote Daily Nightly which was sung by Micky.

MTV made the band popular again by playing their old TV show on their cable channel. I saw them in concert during this time (mid 80's) and was surprised at all the young people in the audience. That was the power of MTV back then. Is that station still on? What about VH1? RIP Davy.

Man, the energy they had (The Monks and their band) for those shows! You can tell they were reveling in the love the audience was giving them. Too bad they didn't have a third "Believer" song to make a trifecta medley! (Oh, and screw MTV for later pulling out the rug from under them!)

Well, MTV wanted them to play a Christmas show, but the group had already gone home for the holidays and their manager wasn't going to interrupt their time off, so they never even got the message. MTV were incensed, so they immediately withdrew all support for any future projects, most notably their next single "Heart And Soul" and it's parent album, POOL IT!. Remember, this was MTV at the peak of their powers, so without the channel's support, the Monks' latest offering died a death on the charts, effectively ending Monkeemania II. The nasty, petty, vindictive side of show biz in full bloom. x-(

***** Maybe it wasn't a "Christmas" concert per se, I forget exactly, but MTV wanted them to do SOME show or special performance, and it wasn't done, and the knives came out. MTV pretty much stated that the second wave of Monkeemania was over, so there was no reason to promote POOL IT, but come on, the album and its singles would have done MUCH better on the charts with their full support. As someone in the Monkees' camp complained, "What, did all the fans suddenly disappear?" But hey, you're right, Elvis: the Monks are still playing and still have their fans, and MTV is a pathetic shadow of the mighty influential entity it ONCE was. Ha-ha.

It was the 1987 Super Bowl Party special that MTV broadcast during the game's halftime. The Monkee's manager, David Fishof, booked them to perform during it, but didn't inform Davy, Micky, & Peter until after they had already made other commitments. MTV promoted the Monkees' appearance, big-time, but they didn't show, so MTV more or less banned them from their channel. Which was why "Heart & Soul," their first single/video from their '87 release, "Pool It," was not played on MTV (despite being among the most requested videos that summer). Who knows how long their comeback might've continued if not for that one big scheduling snafu?!

Ah, Super Bowl Party! Thanks, I couldn't remember the event. In ANY event, though, screw MTV!

@@BlanketMan That wasn't their fault. They had several instances of bad luck, bad scheduling and bad decision-making during their times together, not to mention in-fighting. Not sure of dates, but I know Peter was fired by Micky and Davy after he gave 30 day notice as he said as a recovering alcoholic, he couldn't take all the off the stage drinking and nastiness. Then there was the time Davy head-butted Peter, and Peter punched him back and he needed seven stitches. Tempers must have been high. I wonder over what? Still, Micky insists they were like siblings. I can't imagine doing a long tour with my siblings day after day, being tired, hanging around waiting to get to rhe next venue. It probably would end in murder! You've got to give these guys credit as they worked hard to give their fans great entertainment. Bless them all. ❤❤❤❤
